Since we was talking about the cosmology of Equestria, I thought I'd share my own interpretation on it.Equestria is shielded by a firmament that divides the material world from the immaterial world of magic and magic itself comes in the forms of both light and dark. These two wells of magic exist in the void outside of where Equestria exist and are responsible for every kind of magical phenomena in Equestria. Since they are the power sources of everything, Celestia and Luna are able to directly connect with them when they raise and lower the sun and moon, which they use to restore their youthfulness and maintain the celestial cycle.The sun and moon as they appear when looking at them from Equestria's surface are actually just focal points in the firmament which allows light to pass through and create daytime. When Celestia raises the sun she is maintaining the gateway rather than moving the source of light itself.Luna is different because she is tied to darkness and the nature of darkness in Equestria's universe is to draw in the light and maintain an equal balance between the two opposing forces. Since the firmament around Equestria divides absolute light from absolute darkness the magnetic forces of darkness pull light around the firmament towards itself which creates a shadow. When Luna creates the second gateway, the light that is being gradually being absorbed by the darkness manifests as the moon and the reason why the moon has phases is because Luna punches additional holes in the firmament creating the stars at the expense of dimming the moon.The reason she does this is because the amount of light and dark energy is finite and she must allow for light to convert to darkness since both she and Celestia depend on the balance and on that note, darkness does travel like light does around the firmament allowing it to be reabsorbed into the source of light but there is no need for Celestia to create a cover of darkness over the source of light since darkness cannot be seen and so the darkness is absorbed on the far side of the source of light relative to Equestria.Maybe it makes sense but curious to know what you guys think.

Luna's 'true' form is Nightmare Moon, pure darkness to Celestia's light. The only trouble is because light and darkness are opposites, they can create conflict and so she chooses her current form which is 'shadow', darkness that can only exist because of light.

I get to go camping (and caving) with Moonwife this weekend! We will be assisting in the removal of old vertical infrastructure for a cave entrance with our state's cave conservancy, then bio monitoring a local cave owned by the Dept. of Natural Resources for their research institution. Unfortunately, it will not be a bio monitoring for bats, but for stream life! We will be looking for things like isopods, amphipods, and a species of flatworm endemic only to that cave system.

Picking up after the events of Chapter 11, as Luna and Anonymous continue their moonlit journey out of Canterlot. Those game systems were originally designed to be ran with a human GM, not to optimise dice roll risk and plan for every roll failure.Or at least with a human GM if you roll only 1s and then get crit in return, the GM will narrate some epic story out of it and maybe adjust the campaign on the fly to rescue your guy, or some shit, and then it will become part of the character's history or at least a story told around the table. In a video game it's just a death and deal with it.

Last night I dreamed I was drawing pictures of Luna while waiting for the trolley in a steam punk city.

Despite sleeping for only five hours, I had a dream.>Several platoons, perhaps multiple companies of !not Imperial Guard, assault a demonic temple>POV you're one of the last troops to go through the breached double doors>Choke point of a hallway made of sandstone>Opens out to a massive theater/stadium of sorts>Rectangular floorplan, straight vertical walls, ceiling many stories up and sloped down towards the "back" of the room with the hallway centered at the "front">All the color of tan>Exit hallway, turn right>Walk up to a high platform giving you and a few others a view of the whole room>A third of the room at the back is raised by a meter or two>Three obstructions at the lip of the stage, giant simple pulpits or a freestanding U of walls (can't recall clearly), are the only pieces of "furniture" in this massive room>Platoons/companies are deployed in neat fashion in the other two-thirds of the room, facing the stage>Don't get much time to take it all in>Person to your left turns to you to comment on something, but is interrupted by demons spawning in on the stage>Several types like left4dead tank or talon-handed humanoid>All have uniform dark red skin>Guardsmen on floor level open fire, keep back horde for first few seconds>Then several hundred spawn in all at once, clustering on top of each other>All of them let out a low howl as they surge forward>Apparent to everyone that the room's going to be overrun>Can't return to hallway, will be clogged with fleeing guard by the time you get there>Push forward and to the right with others as the front line get buried in demons>Side room>No doors, just an opening several meters wide and a few meters tall>Room is about twenty to thirty meters wide>Big double doors made of dark wood and brass hoop handles directly across from opening to theater>Only a few meters to the "front" wall>About fifty to a hundred meters towards the "back" are either windows or screens>Landscape "outside" reminds you of the scenery from the Epitaph map from Halo 3>In between opening and windows are many rows of square pillars going all the way up to the sloping roof>Several dozen, maybe over a hundred guardsmen make it to the side room and start barricading the opening with chunks of sandstone blown out from pillarsThe dream ended for me there, but I had the feeling that I read a greentext about this scenario at some point in the past. I "remember" the written story continuing on to describe the group of guardsman spending hours figuring out how to escape through the double doors while fighting off the demons coming from the main room. They took shifts defending the partially barricaded opening, but after hours many were getting hungry and starting to despair. It got down to the wire, but they eventually got the double doors open and somehow escaped the temple with their lives. I'm not sure if this false memory counts as deja vu.
