Manehattan makes no sense when you got ponyville and Canterlot. Too many modern buildings while the capital is more fantasy medival and ponyville being mostly peasant houses.
I think the depiction in season 1 is fine. Equestria has room for a big city that's more modern than Ponyville, but it's clearly still dated in character. Later depictions basically just go 'haha yeah yep that's New York' and that sucks ass.
>>43178105Earth ponies are based
>>43178111It is pretty modern in S1 already but they definitely lean more into it later. Luckily episodes like Made in Manehattan still exist as well.
>>43178105I like it personally, it's an interesting twist on it just being a medieval world. Some parts are more modern while a lot of the world like Ponyville and Canterlot prefer staying oldschool.
>>43178105>>43178111true although at the same time, there’s a part of me that wishes there had been even more episodes set there; seeing the characters in other settings is just really nice, even if the episode is bad or uses the boring Cutie Map premise. Also, there are episodes that depict Manehattan differently; In “Rarity Takes Manehattan it’s much more like nyc, just streets and concrete, but in episodes like The Gift of the Maud Pie the city looks more picturesque and beautiful, not just “busy streets”
>>43178118There's implied details that make it pretty modern, like the skyscrapers and the radio dish, but Applejack's actual experience of it is more akin to the gilded age rather than the jet-set era.
>>43178128Lurking through some screenshots from that specific episode and I'm noticing all the little details that make Manehattan look more vibrant and colorful in this episode; they genuinely make it look like a big city where it would be cool to live if you're not willing to give up city lifeposting some of them

>>43178105Their statue of liberty is pretty cute though
>>43178118>modern>background building from 100 years agoPlease try again.

>>43178687Op pic is cuter
>>43178105G4 is "1920s America, but ponies", and OP is a retard.
>>43178693>castles being seats of power in 1920You sure about that?>middle ages European home design in 1920 America. No. Neither fit your theory.
>>43178105Washington D.C. is the US capital, but New York is a (((finance))) hub and was once an industrial hub.Canterlot is the Equestrian capital, but Manehattan is a hub of (((finance))) and industry.
>>43178652>>43178698modern in terms of the show's general timespan, yeah. 1920s to 1950ish in some cases is about the highest tech level the show exhibits with Manehattan being the prime example. Don't make me post the frame one second later with the antenna dishes on that skyscraper.>castles being seats of power in 1920The overall tech/society level of the show is all over the place, as expected of a fantasy setting, with tech generally in the 1850s-1950s range, so castles make a bit more sense if you want to judge it that way (not in America of course). But generally the 1920s is pretty much just after a lot of monarchies finally got put to rest or democratised after WWI so it's not that out of place even then.
>>43178105Who says cities can’t be both? Places like London and Venice offer glimpses into both the modern age and the ancient history that allowed these cities to exist.
>>43179052Nigga there was an arcade in season 2 Ponyville. DYEWTS
>>43179083Yeah there are a couple of exceptions that go beyond 1950. I generally use that date to avoid retards going >muh post-S1 one time exception doesn't prove anything, but it's a good point.
>>43179093Except just one example is enough to say that the show is not set in that time period.
>>43179093The show was pretty clear that a gag or idea should never be dropped just because it doesn't fit the setting, which is both a strength and weakness of the show.
>>43179093Las Pegasus has entered the chat.

>>43180053Ponies actually made it just for fun.
>>43180138The mayor?
>>43178693No, it's Looney Tunes chronology of wild west + medieval + modern simultaneously
My least favorite aspect of FiMs worldbuilding is half the cities in Equestria just being horse-punny versions of American cities. Down to having the same landmarks and everything
>>43180939wait a fucking moment>Crystal Empire and Vanhoover being Canada>Dixie South America>Mexico with Badlands (meximutt hivemind)It's literally Equestrian America but with a British castle in the middle of it
