Ummm, any MLPfans help me?
So I stumble upon this pony. It's from the Gen 1 Special and it's called Twilight. I heard that she never appeared again in the show. The name and design looks very similar to the main character from Friendship is Magic. So I wonder if these characters are related. Is the former based on the latter? Loosely or heavily?

The original plan for G4 was for all the characters to be G1 characters. This later changed to what we see in the show today.
