Also talking about Applejack and rodeos is interesting to me because watching the show I was reminded that AJ didn't went to compete to any backwater town rodeo. She went to fucking Canterlot, like the fucking capital hosts these competitions and is a big deal because money is on the line too, so if ponies are like humans then rodeos for them should be like mini-olympics, AJ is legitimately an olympic level athlete seeing how even though when she was in a bad streak she still was in the top 3 of every category. Fuck it, Applejack should have competed in the Equestria Games, it could have been a follow up to The Last Round Up

Although the idea could lead to good conflict for a story, AJ has to manage so much of doing actual work that her hobbies are affected, that could be an explanation to why she was not at the top of her game for a rodeo. But also not doing well at the rodeo would mean failing in her responsibility to the farm since winning means earning money that could be going to her home
Applejack being a sporty rodeo champion even appears in the show bible. Not gonna lie, they probably should have made more than The Last Roundup because the fact it happens off-screen kinda makes you forget is a thing

Both of them are characterized by being these big sporty, athletic girls. but while AJ has a lifestyle and habits that justify her being like that, RD just sort of is the best with minimal effort. Like the above conversation showed, AJ trains for rodeos and shit all the time and has been doing them for the past ten years, yet still loses to other ponies she competes against, while RD is already the best flying and fastest pegasus even when she's a literal child. As a child she was already a league above the wonderbolts, and just about the only contests I can think of where she 'loses' are team contests where her less talented teammates drag down her performance. Testing 123 is basically a perfect contrast to Last Roundup to exemplify the point. AJ practices and prepares rigorously and still loses despite her efforts, and the lesson is about accepting your shortcomings, while RD actively refused to study for a test, doesn't even try to pay attention when her friends try to help her, and in the end they basically drip feed her the information in a way that doesn't require any effort or work on her part... and the episode ends with her acing the test with a perfect score.Greg was absolutely right about her 'arc'. In the end, for me it ultimately just makes her feel like a more boring Applejack, because it's the same archetype but without any of the struggle or tension. Even her element could easily be rolled into AJ's with how her personality already is. Her entire character arc would be better served going to AJ who you could maybe have aspiring to be 'the best rodeo pony' since we see her actually still having improvements to make, instead of already being the best.Even a lot of dashfags find her becoming a wonderbolt to be underwhelming, exactly because there's really no tension for if she can be a member. She's a rival character shoehorned in as an MC, and it made both her and AJ weaker characters for it.TL;DR, RD's character arc is half-baked and would have been better off getting given to AJ and just not having RD be a main character in the first place.
