Neither one of them really suffer any setbacks in pursuits of their goals that isn't resolved by the end of the episode, where as AJ episodes are defined by her almost always failing to accomplish the thing she wants and settling for something more attainable.In short, she has the best streak of not repeating lessons constantly and avoiding the mistakes she made in previous episodes, and her growth from her shortcomings is so gradual with the show never calling attention to it that it completely slips by most people who in the past disregarded her episodes as being pointless filler not worth watching, which is just stupid in an episodic show.

I've thought of how a war between Equestria and the Gu World from Reverend Insanity would go, if their power levels were equalized. They are almost exact opposites of each other philosophically, a world of virtue ethics and community, vs social darwinism. Fang Yuan is basically an extreme utilitarian who sees people only as tools and the only thing worthwhile is eternal life in his mind. And unlike Twilight, he doesn't develop at all in the story and has no qualms of turning innocent people into energy furnaces to fuel his power. It's edgy but I like that.I like Reverend Insanity because it does something where most stories don't dare and has a guiltless bad guy win (mostly).

As someone from the south, I'd say Applejaack is more western than southern. To be fair there is a shit ton of sub-genres of southerner with way too many regional dialects to keep track of, but her general demeanor and accent I think are more classic cowboy than any modern southern archetype. Closest to her would probably be Texan, which again, is the closest to the cowboy asthetic people imagine than the rest of the south, so it's still more or less the same thing.
