Looking back, was it really THAT bad? Was it really that big of a deal that the entire fandom had to throw a huge tantrum and even the majority of fans cutting themselves off from ponies forever. You think maybe we overreacted a bit?
Considering the rest of the show has the writers trying to figure out what the fuck to do after this, it's pretty bad. It's a shame because I'm not against Twilight becoming a princess but they needed to have an actual plan for her character.

>>43228352>the entire fandom had to throw a huge tantrum>the majority of fans cutting themselves off from ponies foreverThat did not happen, anon.
>>43228352I personally think people underreacted.
>>43228357Seconding this, but also highlighting the fact that this was the very start of Twilight becoming separate from her friend group to the point that they felt the need to introduce an entirely new snarky purple unicorn to learn friendship lessons to make up for it. If they kept Twilight as tight-knit with her friends as she was in the first three seasons it would've been better. Not great, but better. I also felt like they sat too long on her insecurities about her new position and didn't really use it that well at all. Twilight opines about not knowing her place in the Royal Family and... then we just don't advance that that much until like, Season 9, where she becomes the Government, and we don't get to see any of her rule unless you read shitty comics or watch a shitty sequel series.
>>43228352Looking back, it was. I shed happy tears for the Disney style magic. I LOVED Celestia's ballad. I loved Twilight's coronation. The future will have so much pageantry! I laughed at the doomers fics of Twilight outliving her friends. And then the show just made them right. I miss being in that state of ignorance. So yeah. In hindsight it was the worst.
>>43228389It really did thoughever.
>>43228411I don't think it was the very start, I'd say Canterlot Wedding is the very start of it. It's the first time we see the use of magic as an outright weapon, something that will harm the show forevermore, and it also is the first episode that creates the 'Twilight is right about everything because she's the most important character' format that the show uses far too much. It's easier to ignore the harm the episode does because the whole first half has Twilight being a resentful jerk which is fun early-season behavior for her but it sets precedents that really badly hurt the show in the long run.
>>43228352The issue with it for me wasn't the fact she became an alicorn its that later seasons completely flattened her character early season twilight and later seasons just feel like completely separate characters
>>43228352>Looking back, was it really THAT bad?yes>You think maybe we overreacted a bit?no
>>43228352Twilacorn killed the nerdy bookworm purple unicorn mare that a lot of people fell in love with, so...
>>43228482They also had to take away her snark. In season 1, she was sarcastic when faced with the absurd. She also took a DOWNGRADE in confidence after MMC that lasted the rest of the series. She no longer had that confident group leader quality. They killed so much of her character. Is a different horse.
