Did Spike get any development over the course of the show?
>>43231740no
>>43231740He was 20% more of a faggot by the end
>>43231740He got wings and was, for some reason, forbidden to ever get over his crush on Rarity.
>>43231740No.
>>43231740In the writers mind, probably.
>>43231774Dragon Dropped is actually about getting over it, but Haber was the person who wrote it and he handled it in the worst way possible.Fuck, how bad do you have to be as a writer and producer to make Rarity to turn Rarity into what's basically a groomer?
>>43231740
>>43233754Did they ever interact again after this episode?
>>43233819It was near the end of S9, so, no.
>>43233721
>>43231774Getting wings is a sure sign that your character is going down the shitter due to lack of creativity
>>43233819Eee-nope.
>>43233721>>43233940

>>43233940Which season, and episode?
>>43235075S9E19 Dragon Dropped
>>43233984He's slightly younger than the Crusaders.
>>43233940Rarity would never do something like that; she's too sweet and innocent
>>43233959But dragons are supposed to have wings.
>>43231740He did grow up and mature as the shows goes on, he goes from the gag punching bag little kid jokes one, to the actually solving problems one in episodes like crystal empire, equestria games, and the times they are a changeling. Sure he still needs Twilight's help to get there for the first two, but by the third, that was all him, he was forced to make a decision that would get him ridiculed by his family and the empire that idolized him, and despite fumbling a bit, he eventually makes that choice.I can't say that I think that s1-3 spike would have been able to deal with that kind of pressure, and even further, look at Gauntlet of Fire, he helps Ember at every step of his own volition, despite the worries of Rarity and Twilight, and in the end, wields the ultimate power a dragon can hold, and realizes that he isn't fit to have it, and gave it to someone more competent.I think people sell him short because of his original joke status, when he's a much more dynamic character later on than he's given credit for.
>>43235695to correct myself a bit, by s1-3 I really meant 1-2, that was a a typo
>>43231740No, not really. Most of the episodes where he "learns" anything have to flanderize him first and any achievement (of which there are very few) mattered little after the end of the episode where it happened, at most (exceptional exception being him helping defeat Sombra: the way the Crystal Empire ponies treat it you'd think he and Sombra had a multi-episode epic shonen fight or something). It's funny to me how Lauren Faust was seemingly both the writer who had the most ambitions for Spike, yet she underused him, was involved in some of his worst episodes, whose flaws all other writers would proceed to repeat and set his status as the shows' metaphorical and literal punching bag.
