Earth Ponies are closer to orcs. They are the physically strongest and on average the largest and bulkiest.
Pegasi would be minor weather deities. I guess the closest thing would be sylphs.

Pegasi are minor angels. The wings didn't evolve naturally or occur as some kind of magical accident. Long ago earth ponies were given the gift of flight by a divine entity and became Pegasi.
