Do you prefer shy or confident Fluttershy?
>>43237589Well, her name isn't Flutterconfident, is it?
>>43237589The two aren't mutually exclusive. She showed absolute confidence in her friendship when Discord tried to corrupt her despite still mostly being shy at the time. The only Fluttershy I don't like is the retarded bipolar "assertive" Fluttershy written by socially inept retards who genuinely can't tell the difference between self confidence and being an overbearing prick.
>>43237605difficult pete has found a new foe
>>43237605That FlutterCHAD for you
I like her being completely content because she's getting pets.
>>43237605If she was a secret agent she'd be Flutterconfidential
>>43237611Shy, Stop going at these damn meetings!Minotaur Andrew Tate is not a good teacher!
>>43237612WE. HATE. PETE.WE HATE- WE HATE PETE
>>43237589I like her bursts of assertiveness. Key word: Bursts. To put it in another way: I prefer EqG Fluttershy over the FiM and Pony Life ones.
>>43237626
>>43237605If she was a FiM writer she'd be Flutterconfalone
>>43237605If she was Bart get out Im piss she'd be Flutterincontinence
flutterreasonable
For me it's Flutterslutter.
>>43237674Bad.
>>43237589I'd prefer if she didn't exist
>>43237589I dunno, from what I pick up of her Season 1 Fluttershy is still processing a lot of the bullying she went through as a kid, and has moments where her confidence falters. She has an insane degree of empathy though, and feeling so hurt and singled out is part of why she gets so fired up when seeing others suffer the same thing. Her heart always makes her confident when it matters most, because it's what she truly believes in, even above her own self-esteem. I think it's also really fitting for her to simply just be afraid of other ponies - we see her happily carry a whole conversation with Spike and not be worried about her questions being annoying in Episode 1, and she's confident enough to tell one of her birds he's off with his singing, too.Hurricane Fluttershy goes into her being moreso just afraid of ponies. I actually think Flutters might be a very brave and comfortable soul underneath her bullying trauma, but only her animal friends see it regularly. Ideally she would have learned to handle herself with her same compassion and grace that she always has, still always being gentle and still always being very nurturing and kind and patient, but also having some loose boundaries for herself that she's very polite about upholding. Even if she's empathetic towards her bullies or detractors and simply want to solve the situation with her heart, I think that'd fit her really well. Unfortunately we kinda got mean girlboss Fluttershy later on, and it feels like her arc was never completed unless you see Hurricane Fluttershy as the ending of it.She's a mix of both, if you ask me. There was a wonderful message in her character that even the introverted, quiet, and shy people in the world are perfectly fine just the way they are and don't need to be ashamed of not being extroverted. They kind of fumbled it by having it be more "nah just yell at people" which undermines her whole character in my opinion, but Flutters is a bit more complex than she looks at first glance and I like her a lot for that. She only really ran to nature as a way to escape more potential pain from ponies, and she seemed to be still shy and quiet as a filly anyways, meaning her gentle nature was something she always had for herself from the beginning and not a product of her trauma. Something she can actually claim for herself, a powerful part of her that survived even through what she had been through, and not something given to her by her bullies. I wish we saw more about that.
>>43237710>of why she gets so fired up when seeing others suffer the same thing.*when seeing others suffer or be threatened in generalMisspoke there. Her empathy is always what makes her stand the fuck up and I always thought that was really based. Also I think the "she has secret anger issues from being bullied and quiet" angle is kind of unfair to her character and overall message when it's considered to be her only defining trait and reason for her 'angry moments', but I think her being a little frustrated with herself and others for the entire experience is very in character, and likely what Putting Your Hoof Down was toying with.
>>43237710>They kind of fumbled it by having it be more "nah just yell at people" which undermines her whole character in my opinion,Yeah. Given they criticize, and even mock the idea in Putting Your Hoof Down, the direction her character is taken later on comes off as completely missing the point.
>>43237724I was completely dumbfounded by that too. It felt like they looked at Putting Your Hoof Down and got the entire wrong message from it and took it literally as how her development should go. I always felt that they should have used her appearance in Hurricane Fluttershy for her story moving forward, more confident but still as gentle and sweet as ever, but they kinda just went "ah she yells in this episode and it was memorable so we'll just keep doing that." Also so many of her episodes being Discord focused kind of shafted a lot of potential of her character, too. I'm a Ponkfag, but Pinkie at least has what can be considered a beautifully complete arc in the show going from Griffon the Brush Off to Pinkie Pride.I feel so bad for Flutters. I might consider her to be the member of the Mane 6 that got screwed over the hardest, because there was such a wonderful story she had to tell that got stuffed so hard by careless writing.
>>43237731>Fluttershy being the most fucked over of the M6It always makes me feel like I'm going mad every time I'm reminded how absolutely screwed over they all got.
>>43237745Oh yeah, you too? Some of them had it worse than others. I just wish Flutters had one final special episode that really cemented what was so wonderful about her. Like I said, Pinkie for example imo was much better off. Screechie Pie is awful and I don't even feel like I'm seeing Pinkie on the screen when it's an episode writing her that way, but at least there was a complete arc you can point to and go "yeah this is who she is, this is why she's awesome".Either we're pleasantly surprised by G6's handling of them or we want to die/lose our shit shitposting about it harder than we ever have. Lord knows where these characters are going moving forwards.
I enjoyed Filli Vanilli.
>>43237639So she'd be one of the talentless hacks then?
best flutter is nasty fluttershe's just hilarious

>>43238057By 'they' I assume you mean mittsies and only mittsies.
>>43238645>the yellow horsethen i like dunked-into-the-trash shy
>>43238697Unrealistic to suggest that you'd be able to get close enough to Fluttershy to be able to dunk her into anything, she'd smell you from 100 yards away.
>>43237710I think you've really laid it out well here, Anon. The more times I've rewatched S1, the more I realise how great Fluttershy is. How her moments of full confidence are borne from her kind go figure nature. Like you said, her empathy is admirable, and it only gets more cool every time I see it.Hurricane Fluttershy is also my favourite episode. There's obviously a good few reasons why, but to link towards your points, it shows that powerful, and beautiful, drive she has to help others—and how she needs to be kind to herself to grow.
>>43238879Hurricane Fluttershy is an enduring classic. It was one of the most popular episodes of the entire series back when S1 and S2 were the only ones around, people wouldn't stop talking about it. I think Fluttershy being kind to herself is one of the coolest parts of her character as she develops - treating herself with the same grace and patience she gives others.Flutters originally found solace in nature as a way to hide from other ponies and avoid judgment and bullying when she was very little, and the moment in Hurricane Fluttershy when she runs deep back into the woods to hide and cry has actually gotten me choked up at points. That being said, the fact that nature, the thing she escaped to, ends up loving her back and being the very thing that rehabilitates her from her trauma is absolutely fucking beautiful. It's a wonderful message about loving the world and it loving you back and giving you strength, something that, as a Ponkfag, I'm inclined to be moved by. Along with how it initially inspired them to be happy and strong despite those around them constantly putting them down in their youth, her and Pinkie actually have a good deal in common with how much wonder and joy they see in the world around them. I love the rest of the Mane 6 equally and absolutely can't pick a second favorite, but Flutters has very much come extremely close to breaking that for me at times.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw6aibOQ_UI
I like her confidence, I find it attractive.
Remember to ask her first. This could be very uncomfortable for her.
