Yeah durpy is kind of an oddball, think of him as the middle ground between desu and kakuma if that makes any sense
He's combative and quick to anger, he's threatened to doxx people before and has a holier-than-thou attitude, but I don't think he's ever actually done anything majorly harmful unlike kakuma. I don't think it's dangerous to hang around him, if you can bear his attitude.

Out of curiosity why yet another pony sim? There's like two that have any amount of activity (balti and mare's nest) and already multiple other sims and homesteads which are effectively barren at all times

The other pony sims are barren because they don't feel mlp enough xor allows furries. On top of that they also don't perform as well as I would've hoped, even my 4090 takes a shit on those sims.
We are taking a different approach in optimization from the start which has been working for us really well to the point where render distance can be set to 256+ and LOD factor to 4 making things look pretty. We also have a moving train!!! (Can't ride it yet though until later in the future if I decide for a residential area). One of my last reasons is pricing, my parcels are cheaper than most pony sims from what I've seen while getting double the land impact.

Ponyville is pretty nice sim even if it is nowhere near as busy as Baltimare. It's a nice place to take pictures as seen with that Derpy set a few threads back, and a comfortable place to hangout with a couple others. When they do have events they are good, with the exception of their Nightmare Night setup which is fantastic and I love. It's immersive and it's fun to see other ponies running around and gathering candy. The earth pony photo shoot was good too, although that was a Baltimare event that took place there.

I think maybe having nohooves animations is kind of discouraging for most players. Either that or long time SL players just find them tacky or samey after so many years, like their novelty wears off. Seems like I only see people doing arcade stuff with friends or at events. I like the pool tables though, or the interactive games that don't put your pony in a shitfaced animation.

Hoofball is also based if you can get into it.

There's a few ponies who change OCs pretty often. Other than hugger, Neri actually comes to mind, I honestly don't know what "Neri" looks like as a pony.
Quick Service is almost never actually Quick Service but his OCs mostly look relatively similar.
There's also a few people who clearly aren't interested in larping as a pony at all and just use SL as a chatroom + pony creator, like frippfan and superuber.
Other than that the vast majority of other ponies exist just fine, nothing else comes to mind right now

To varying degrees, yes, those two I named are basically the only ones I can think of who appear to be completely detached from their pony creations.
There's plenty of anons who freely use SL as a chatroom but for example at least commonly have a single pony they usually play as, and thus that pony is their avatar, which is a lightweight form of larping.

Unfortunately most makers of manes, tails, accessories and clothes don't bother adding cel shading, so if you enable it on the pony body it ends up really clashing with the non-cel-shaded everything else. So as a result nobody uses it.

Which is sad, honestly, since the pony shipped with a cel shade layer from the start as far as I can tell, it's disappointing that none of the other creators picked it up and maintained compatibility.

Cel shading fucking sucks in SL. It doubles the amount of stuff you have to render on screen (which in turn affects performance). Which means that creators have to double up those items, slightly ballooned and inside-out, on top of themselves. Items that are often more complex than a simple roly-poly tubby wubby pony. Subtle layers of clothing, expertly layered alpha textures, etc? Suddenly those "cel shade" faces are tripping over themselves to see which can be the first to clip through everything else.
Adding cel shading to objects is a nightmare for anything that has any sort of detail, it's basically hopeless with rigged mesh + sliders, and there isn't a ton of demand for it anyway.
