I was thinking about hosting a tribes server for /mlp/ but i can't decide which one.

The one in picrel. Released in 1998 but had support for 128 players on release with aggressive client-side prediction, de-ghosting and all that stuff to be able to play it in the 56K days. There's an hd textures pack from 2014 if you don't like the graphics. You can find matches in comp settings everyday 8pm ET. It's known for the super absurd mods that adds a lot of classes, some that turns the game into an RPG With a world to explore etc.

It wasn't as popular as the first game on release because it was floatier, but it has the most active community now, although they don't play almost every single night like in t1. A mod called tribes 2 classic saved the game by fixing the floatiness, basically. It is known for the more ellaborate vehicle game (when compared to the simpler vehicles from the first game) and lower count of high effort mods, the most popular one being the live-construction one, other than tribes 2 classic, of course.

I was bucking around with vintage story 1.22.2, why the fuck did Tyrone decide to implement an even worse version of toolsmith as base game and break toolsmith as a consequence? I dunno, that nigger’s too far up his ass with shit like adding in shitty bellows that can’t be mechanical power automated (where the fuck are trip hammers for manual smithing and not helve hammers?) and the spur gears can’t even connect at corners and seem mostly useless, you can’t even put a axle through them which seems retarded.
There’s been a couple of cool mods though, I spent a few hours bucking around with a german ponyfag’s steel/iron blast furnace mod and it’s pretty well done (you can preheat the intake blast air, cowper stoves take forever to heat up though, and the blast furnace itself is kind of finnicky with extinguishing itself randomly, I assume it ran out of blast mix to melt last time)
There’s another mechanical automation mod, but there’s no way to convert its autistic shaft system to regular vanilla axle networks, which disappoints me since the description says you can throw vanilla axles onto shafts to have them powered by wind or water. Begs the question why the fuck Tyrone hasn’t added tread wheels, hand cranks, or flywheels for vanilla power sources.
I dunno, huge pain in the ass that some mods are broken, but hopefully Tyrone won’t fuck up shit as much as the last major update.

The Ballistic Weapons mod is great, but nothing beats a good vanilla UT2004 imo.

We'll be playing several modes with the "Hell of Relics" mutator activated!
Basically, there will be a bunch of items around the map that, when picked up, will give you special powers.
These include things like mega jumps, adrenaline boosts, invisibility, and even things like damaging all enemies in a certain radius when you die, slowing down enemies you damage, swapping places with other players, or getting a second chance when you die.

DOOM deathmatch, we're going to play a little more of exec+brit BFG spamming maps so it will be a good opportunity to learn how to deal with it (dodge, counter with the SSG, etc) and also to use it! We're also doing the first GothicDM known for its focus on appearance and original music (1997 wad).

It has a direct hit and after detonation a 40 invisible tracers shotgun that is shot from the player position but conservers the direction/angle of firing.
From the BFG FAQ:
1) The direct hit is difficult to achieve,
2) The location of the detonation does not matter,

rotate, just keep strafing and keep your targets in sight while you
wait for the detonation.
- Combine the two previous attack methods: Shoot a nearby wall, then

Correct. We're playing oldschool deathmatch but with respawning items and double ammo.

It can be used in the chaos of deathmatch but using the tracers is much safer and reliable. In duels you will only ever do it if your opponent is playing aggressive and you've already figured his habits out. Looks like most of the competitive deathmatchers played on a more conservative playstyle, only switching to aggressive if it makes sense or when he got a massive advantage.

Ah yes the BFG, one of the least intuitive weapons in existence for a new player. I can't think of any other weapon from any other game that works the same way and that's what makes it special. It's an ultra-super-shotgun that locks your firing angle without locking your camera and only fires after the BFG ball detonates. There is no area/blast damage, the projectile is simply a variable-duration timer for the trigger.

You'll need to control your mare's instinct to run in circles around your opponent. I know it's hard for them to strafe side to side because of their anatomy, but you'll both just have to work it out.

Well I can definitely start throwing together a list of mods to mess with, all I'm really waiting for right now is tehtelev updating generator behavior.
If we do get something going, we'll probably wait a week before it goes live just to make sure people get a chance to have a say about the mods.
It may take tehtelev a bit of time to update the generators since he's also bouncing around on a few other projects, including improvements to the VSAPI repo.
So far, all I've really got is the previous two I posted (pipes & power, steel making), electrical, and obviously kemono for the horse models.

I got shit to do tonight and a green to finish off, but we'll see how things go from there.

I was excited to be artillery/anti-air when foxhole's airborne update came out, but with how atrociously siege camp bungled their game I've been looking for something else to scratch that indirect fire itch. A fan-made game mode, let's take a look at the official description:
In this new gametype, kills don't get you points. Instead killed people drop a Cookie.
You must pick it up and take it to a drop point to score it.
However, to score faster, you should hoard your cookies, as the scoring is like this:
1 cookie = 1 point
2 cookies = 2 points
3 cookies = 4 points
4 cookies = 7 points
...etc.
The drawback is when someone dies and they're holding cookies, they'll drop all of them! So you must decide whether to go for the score or try to get that extra kill.
There's a Free-For-All version and a Team version, and the gametype originally uses coins or rings, but I think cookies are more mlp-themed and easier to spot in the heat of the action

Electricity mod, still waiting for the updated generator resistance formula, but once that's sorted, it should get rid of the wildly inconsistent power output we had before.
For those curious, the problem was due to how generators calculate resistance.
Before they hit the rated speed, they increase resistance linearly, but once at the rated speed, begin increasing resistance with a quadratic formula.
This kinda results in resistance flying all over the place when you start pushing very high torque and speed.
Based on what I heard from the developer, this actually worked a lot smoother in previous versions, and after showing them a video of how it was working now, they made it pretty clear that something was going wrong and they'd need to patch it.

if you disable "realistic winters" in the game config, all animals spawn with "good weight", and that gives plenty of food per animal (esp when you're a pegasi or another race that can fly and just divebomb animals with a spear/melee).
I don't see any issue with the other mods, I've seen geargeous before, but it isn't very feature fleshed, and might just be too complex for most people to get into.
I'm assuming you'll run a mod list, see if anything breaks, remove/change the offending mods and then boot the serv with the final list?
Also, can you disable class locked recipes? I don't enjoy waiting for someone with the tailor or clockmaker glass to log on just so they can craft one or two things for me.
And if you want, since I've seen the vintagestory server on /vm/ do it, apparently disabling the world map makes people by default live way closer together, and actually make roads/markers to places.
Might work very well with a canvas mod or something to make detailed handmade maps of areas.

That's the general idea, I do want to make sure most things work right before we get anything going live.
May not be able to test literally every block added by every mod, but should be able to make sure most of the general stuff is working.

I was kinda planning on doing that anyways, for as immersive as it is requiring someone to be a dedicated specific class to craft certain items for everyone, it also means that the second that person decides to take a break, everything grinds to a halt and someone has to fill the hole.

VSInstruments uses the .ABC format, sort of like how midi works.
You'd have to find a copy of the song IN that format, but I think there was a big music pack somewhere with a bunch of pony music, probably has it in there.

I dunno, most of the time steel is achieved in 1 irl week and the serv dies, same with noobs joining and having no idea what to do or feeling like they're given chores instead of being able to do what they want.
Last serv had like 2-4 people who left to run their own bases, maybe like 2-3 people who stuck to the same spot, then some people who join briefly then never play again.

I have the file directly downloaded, it's just a single .exe
I can share this with anons if needed, once i virustotal it.
the guide says it's meant for windows systems, installs to your C: (main) drive, and makes two separate directories.
If someone's willing, it'd be very convenient to grab both directories and zip them together, or extract the actual crack parts of it.

And here's a code mod I'm prototyping that allows you to easily drop pngs and gifs in to appear in-game (C# gif decoder into an atlas repainter). Can be individual overrides of sponsors/ads, global overrides, or create a pool of images that can be fixed or randomly shuffled per track or session. Works for anything that uses the sponsor assets, so most custom tracks will have them automatically too. (Even if you don't use custom images, you can use this to shuffle around the vanilla sponsors.)

Here’s the steps from the link
“Usage:
- Download and run the .exe file which would automatically install the game for you.
The .exe would install/extract 2 folders for you, which can be found at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming.
The folders are called ,,Vintagestory" and ,,VintagestoryData". Open the ,,Vintagestory" folder then the ,,Kirigiri.ini" file and edit your ,,PlayerName" and ,,PlayerUID". After that run ,,Vintagestory.exe".
You can also right click on the ,,Vintagestory.exe" --> Send to --> Desktop (create shortcut).
After launching the game just click ,,Login". Don't input anything anywhere.

Also fuck the gay VS admins, I had to change my username from LunaFag to “YourAKingGG” because it was “too offensive”, since I posted a bug report for a mod.

UPDATE:
The server auth plugin is out of date and no longer working.
The only other option is a chinese plugin that doesn't seem to work, and appears to be built around using a separate launcher.
May be stuck here until we find an updated server auth plugin, will keep looking.

running this through wine/proton is the only way to play multi since i cant login using the actual client you linked. it should be fine but i seem to remember having a cracked linux client somehow for the last server. not a big deal i guess if it runs okay

That was mostly due to the internet archive having a cracked client for that game version specifically for linux.
They have one for 1.22.0 now, but not 1.22.3 sadly.
