Well, if anyone is wondering what kids in the demographic that FiM was originally for think of it, both my kids are EXTREMELY UPSET that there's no Applejack and Rarity. The younger one says she "kind of likes" the designs and demanded Sunset Shimmer should be in the new show, and the older one thinks the new designs "look really weird." All in all a very lukewarm reception from actual kids that love MLP. When I told them the episodes are only 9 minutes long and on YouTube they scrunched up their noses and looked disgusted.

I love emotionally hurt villains like Luna and Starlight so I clearly have a preference, they're just so much more sympathetic and endearing so I care about them more. Starlight's redemption arc is a season long so she gets a lot more fleshed out. Going from accepting Twi's hoof during her reformation to offering a hoof to Chryssy during her redemption is absolute kino.
