Ive loved someone, once. Ive lost him, and since that day, I have been not complete.

I still have myself, sure and I am looking for someone new.

I'd still take him back, maybe that makes me defective, after 12 Years. I dont care.

I just hope the world sends someone close enough, so that I have someone to never let go again.

Thats how I feel and I dont give a fuck how gay you think that is.

At least I know my mares are cute even if they don't apply to the thread.
>>
>>43413428
How do mares not apply to this thread?
>>
>>43413451
Valid reasons.
She was a character from a horse-D&D game set about 600 years after Luna's time-outing, ended up marrying another pony because humans didn't exist in the campaign. The rest of them don't have art or much beyond a description so they only loosely count as "characters". So I suppose they could be recycled if I felt the urge.

>It only takes the two of you a few minutes to return to the centre of Summer Shine once more.
>But even on this fairly short trip, you are quick to notice that the crowd around Check Hill has already grown a little bit again.
>Whatever he is presenting over there, it is definitely having an impact on your neighbours.
"Oh, this doesn't bode well."
>#deca.mare looks you in the eyes and smiles warmly.
>"Things will shift now. But keep in mind what we discussed. I am sure that everything will work out."
>Her comment does help to relieve you to some extent.
>After all, she implies that whilst you are about to encounter the next obstacle with which Discord is going to upset your plans, she is confident that you and your friends will be able to overcome it in the end.
>In spite of her rather limited help.
>With that thought in mind, you take a deep breath and enter the scene properly.
>Now that you are up close, you quickly check the situation in the centre again.
>And the status quo is similar to the previous situation.
>Most of the ponies have gathered in a circle around something.
>You cannot see what it is, yet it does not take a genius to figure out that Check Hill is there.
>With the new piece of evidence, of course.
>Then you look for your four friends and find at least three of them at the periphery of the circle.
>Fine Point is nowhere to be seen whilst the other three are talking to one another.
>It is impossible for you to hear what the conversation is about, but their serious expressions tell you that something critical must have happened.
"Yeah... not boding well. Not in the slightest."
>You do not wait for an answer and immediately decide to join their conversation.
>Sky Squall is the first to notice your approach.
>"It's good you're here."
>You feel tempted to ask in jest whether he was slowly starting to get nervous, but you decide against it.
>This is not exactly the moment for banter.
>So you get right to the point instead.
"What's the situation here? Everyone looks like a disaster has happened."
>Fall Seed answers the question for you.
>"Not a disaster, but close to it."
>You tilt your head.
"Can you give me some details?"
>Firefly takes over.
>"Something was found. A piece... with some potential clues."
>This is a bit more of an explanation, yet still a rather sparse one.
>Firefly is aware that you want to hear more.
>So she goes on.
>"You better see it for yourself. Fine Point is examining the thing as we speak."
>You process her words for a second before you nod.
"Alright."
>You take a breath and join the circle.
>#deca.mare is quick to follow you, but she always stays one step behind you.
>Which means you are on the front line once more.
>So be it then.
>>
>>43414649
>You carefully navigate through the small crowd of gathered ponies to see the piece of evidence personally.
>And as you emerge on the other side, you immediately see the object in question lying on the ground, right in the middle of the circle.
>It is a large rock, almost as big as a grown pony.
>Judging from its form, structure and the size of the thing, you assume it is a rather dense and robust formation, and that it took at least two or three grown Earth ponies to haul the piece adequately.
>Apart from the mere calibre, however, the rock itself is not really noteworthy in itself.
>No, the actually striking question is what happened to the stony formation.
>Because something has, somehow, carved three symmetric incisions into one side of the rock's surface.
>Said incisions are not simple cuts, they are deep glaring gashes, and they almost resemble a wound which a fierce predator would inflict on its prey.
>You have absolutely no doubt that this mental image is intentional.
>Not for you, but for the ponies.
>To maximise the fear factor.
>And it works.
>Most of the ponies actually seem to eye the rock with some cautious respect because of its strange state.
>But there is one clear exception to the rule.
>Fine Point is currently standing next to the slashed side of the stone and examines the incisions closely.
>Both with his eyes and, if his glowing horn is any indication, his magical senses as well.
>Once again, the Unicorn stallion is hard for you to read, as he maintains his professional demeanour the entire time.
>You cannot say for sure what he is thinking.
>Or whether he might change his mind when he concludes his examinations.
>As much as you hope that he is still on your side in this matter, you have to admit that there is a realistic chance for him to waver.
>Not good.
>You wonder why #deca.mare did not include this, in the literal sense of the word, gaping clue in her list.
>Sure, the cuts do not necessarily hint at the existence of any particular creature like the tracks did.
>But its imagery is nevertheless potent.
>Critically so.
>Considering the context of your current situation, everyone will immediately believe that there is a clear connection between said creature and the incisions.
>It is the obvious conclusion to draw, after all.
>Yet the trees bore similar intentional cuts.
>And you damaged them further to muddy the fake evidence.
>So why not this one?
>You do not expect to get an answer right away, yet #deca.mare gives you one through the comm channel.
>It would have been too laborious and time-consuming to work on the rock just with hooves, Anon.
>Besides, some of our friends were already too close to the evidence as well.
>They would have noticed your activities if you did.
>There was no viable option for us to remove this object, unless we would have been willing to manipulate the perception of these ponies.
>>
>>43414652
>Well, this would have gone against Harmony's wishes.
>Yet a part of you is tempted to ask whether this alternative is any better, given that it severely weakens your position.
>In any case though, you have more pressing matters to deal with now.
>For Check Hill is already getting closer.
>Of course he is.
>He trots in your direction with a nigh smug grin which almost teases you to give him a beating.
>And he does not stop there.
>"Oh, would you look at that. Do you still think the Hum Hen is a myth? Or are you finally ready to believe in it too?"
>You blink as you try not to snarl.
"At the moment, I believe I see a stone with a few cuts in it. Thanks for asking."
>Check Hill keeps smiling.
>"You are persistent. I can respect that. But the question is, does the Hum Hen respect it as well? I hope your... narrow-mindedness does not... come around to bite you."
>You listen to his words attentively.
>For you do not like what you are hearing.
>"But consider... just consider... what could happen when the Hum Hen suddenly makes an appearance... and comes knocking on your door? What would you do then? Or worse... when it meets one of your kin?"
>He pauses.
>"You've seen what it can do to solid stone. Now... imagine what it could do to an expecting mare."
>Well, he has officially done it.
>This is the last straw.
>You take a long and deep breath.
>Then you calmly take a step in Check Hill's direction, and crane your neck in order to whisper something quietly into his ear.
"You've just reached a line, 'friend'. And if you even think of crossing it for just one second, ever, I will make you regret it. Are we clear?"
>You do not care if Check Hill will try to use this to fake an outrage or not.
>For you are dead serious about this.
>And if Check Hill has any sense of restraint, it would be wise for him to apply it now.
>The ears of the Earth pony stallion slightly perk up.
>Then he responds in an equally hushed volume.
>"Is that... a threat?"
>You blink, yet you show no emotions.
"A friendly piece of advice. I suggest you take it to heart."
>You do not wait for a response and slowly retract your head right away.
>Then, without paying any further attention to Check Hill, you walk up to Fine Point.
>The Unicorn stallion gives you a swift nod and immediately focuses on the incisions again.
"What do you think of this, Fine? What's up with those cuts?"
>Fine Point inhales before he responds.
>"That's, well, a very good question."
>He pauses as he comes up with a better answer.
>"I didn't have much time to examine the incisions yet, but there are two things that I know for sure. One, these cuts were created in one swift swoop. And two, their creation involved magic."
>You blink and the ponies around you listen up as well.
"Magic? Are you sure?"
>The Unicorn nods.
>>
>>43414654
>"Completely sure, I can still feel a faint presence of magical residue. It is fading and will be gone soon, but its signature is unmistakable."
>Murmurs spread in the crowd around you.
>"Unfortunately, it doesn't tell as much as it should. Or rather, it does. But the conclusions don't make any sense."
>The ponies fall silent to listen to the healer.
>"You see, the magical signature within these cuts is very specific. It's a type of magic I'm familiar with. Have you ever heard of lancing magic?"
>You genuinely rummage through your memories to find a point of reference.
>Yet you do not find any.
>So you give him a completely honest answer.
"I don't think so, no."
>Fine Point inhales.
>"It is, as the name implies, a technique which focuses on piercing things with magical energy. With enough effort, you can use it to cut into virtually anything. And it can be, as contradictory as it sounds, used for healing. One can, for example, use its power to create an opening into a body in order to remove objects from within said body which don't belong there, or which cause more harm than good."
>Surgery.
>Fine Point is talking about surgery based on concentrated energy.
>"Of course, this is a delicate process and the inflicted wound has to be treated afterwards. This is why lancing magic is only used as a last resort or when no other options are available. And even then it is always used with extreme caution. This doesn't happen very often, but it's a perfectly legitimate treatment. I've seen it happen and practiced with it myself."
>You look at the torn surface of the rock.
"And you think this was caused by lancing magic?"
>He nods.
>"Yes. Without any doubt. And by an obscene amount of it too. Even strong lancing magic usually does not pierce a sturdy surface like this so easily. Casting a spell of this magnitude borders on recklessness. It's a complete disregard of the very concept of safety and violates all principles of this magic. Lancing spells are meant to be tools of precision and care. These cuts... are a display of crude savagery."
>You wonder whether you should point out that Check Hill insists of this being the act of a wild creature, but Fine Point quickly addresses this argument on his own.
>"And that's what makes the whole thing so puzzling. Lancing spells do not occur naturally like some forms of magic do. It's a specific craft of artificial spellweaving with a long and proud history. No wild creature, no matter how strong its innate ties to magic might be, should be able to possess this power."
>You try to dig a little deeper.
"Do you think it's possible that a being could have developed this skill on its own?"
>>
>>43414656
>Fine Point vividly shakes his head.
>"No. I do not doubt that there could be a creature out there which might be able to cut material with magic somehow... or which magically enhances certain parts of its body to strengthen the potency of its limbs, but it would be a distinctively different form of magic. The residue on this rock definitely bears the mark of Unicorn lancing magic. The characteristics of it are unmistakably and unique. Like a one-of-a-kind piece of art."
>He takes a breath.
>"From a purely objective perspective, there's only one reasonable conclusion. This was done by a Unicorn who is well-versed in lancing spells. But speaking as somepony with the perspective of an adept in healing magic, I can promise you that this is an impossibility."
>You go on as Fine Point falls silent.
"Just asking out of curiosity, how many Unicorns do you know who would be able to pull this off? Who could have done this, theoretically speaking?"
>The stallion sighs.
>"Well, me. And considering the high amount of energy which it would take to tear this deeply into a dense rock, somewhere between two or three dozen other ponies in total. And I can vouch for every single one of them. They have better things to do than abusing their powers in order to rip chunks out of stones somewhere in the wilderness."
>One of the Earth ponies takes a step forward and speaks up.
>"What about your foals?"
>The question sounds genuine and does not hint at any kind of ill will.
>But it is still not a good sign.
>Because it means that the first suspicions and speculations are slowly starting to make the rounds.
>You tense up a little bit as you consider the implications.
>Fine Point, however, remains calm and collected as he turns to the pony.
>"They're not there yet. Our trio is strong, but this exceeds their current abilities. Besides, neither Bubbly Droplet nor me would approve of them using such a technique at their age. Lancing magic is a serious school for advanced scholars, not a toy for foals."
>The pony slowly nods and accepts that answer for what it is.
>And you silently thank Fine Point for being the renowned healer of this village.
>For his incredibly good track record and close bonds to practically everyone in Summer Shine helps a lot to maintain the cohesion of the community.
>The ponies believe in his abilities.
>And they trust him.
>Check Hill will not be able to undermine that all of a sudden.
>Yet he will certainly try to strain their relationships with stuff like this.
>You sigh and address Fine Point once more.
"So, what's the bottom line now?"
>The stallion hesitates for a second before he responds.
>"I don't know. It's a mystery to me."
>The admission visibly bothers the Unicorn, but he does not shy away from stating that he is at his wit's end.

>Discord is throwing seeds of doubt and confusion in every direction.
>They are not necessarily coherent, as Fine Point's analysis clearly states, but they do not have to be.
>All they need to do is to sow more uncertainties.
>The ensuing chaos will spread on its own.
>This is a problem.
>And it is certainly not going to be possible to solve it with mere words and arguments at this point.
>After all, Check Hill can simply come up with new things to throw against you to keep this game going.
>So you think about #deca.mare's advice of changing your tactic.
>What can you do to stop Discord without using the nuclear option?
>You keep standing where you are for a few seconds as you rack your brain over this challenge.
>You mentally sum up the events and their consequences, and what you have at hand to counter them.
>Then you get an idea.
>You will have to work out the details with the others, as it is only a rough glimpse of a possible approach, but if you play your cards right, it gets rid of all of your problems.
>You raise your voice to address Fine Point again.
>"Fine, please study the scratches further. Maybe there's still something useful to discover."
>The stallion agrees.
>"Of course. And what do you do now?"
>You blink and briefly glance at Check Hill.
"I'll... talk to the others. To tell them what you've told me."
>He nods.
>"Good idea. I'll inform you if I find more clues."
>You give a swift salute.
"See you later then. And thanks."
>Fine Point mirrors your salute wordlessly before he gets back to his work.
>So you decide to turn around and return to the others.
>Check Hill steps in by intercepting you.
>"So, what do you say? Do you still think that there's nothing strange out there?"
>Instead of simply running into the Earth pony to knock him over, a thought which is more tempting with every passing minute, you simply decide to stop right next to him with a deadpan expression.
"I'll require some time to think. In... private."
>You stress the last word intentionally to make it abundantly clear to Check Hill that it would be better for him to heed your wishes this time.
>And he does seem to understand.
>However, he is still throwing one more jab into the conversation.
>"Suit yourself. But don't dawdle too much. Indecision isn't a friend of foresight. And it makes room for surprises."
>You unintentionally start to grin for some reason.
>But much like Fine Point, you proceed without saying another word and head back to your friends.
>You do not have the patience for a new pointless discussion with Check Hill at the moment.
>It would only distract you.
>So you gently navigate your way through the crowd again to leave the circle.
>#deca.mare follows you like a shadow.
>She has once again not participated in the discussion, but her presence, and her advice, helped you nevertheless.
>Your three friends are still waiting at the same spot as before.
>>
>>43414660
>#deca.mare and you approach them at once.
>And Fall Seed does not waste a second.
>"How did it go? Did Fine Point find something out?"
>You inhale.
"Well, kind of. He identified the source of the cuts, but... the knowledge doesn't help us much."
>#deca.mare goes on.
>"He says the scratches were made with the help of magic. Artificial Unicorn magic, to be precise."
>Your three friends are all visibly baffled by that.
>Firefly takes over.
>"What? How does that work?"
>And #deca.mare responds.
>"He does not know. According to him, this should not be possible."
>Sky Squall sighs.
>"In other words, it's insight that leads nowhere and only creates more uncertainties."
>Fall Seed speaks up next.
>"What about the scrolls?"
>You answer this question.
"We didn't ask. And quite frankly, I think they're no longer important."
>The Earth pony stallion does not look happy.
>"I don't understand. Do you suggest we ask the Unicorns to study the rock instead?"
>You shake your head.
"No, Fall. Forget all of that. I have a different idea."
>You smile reassuringly.
>"I can't give you anything specific yet, but trust me. We will sort this chaotic ploy out. Because that's all it is."
>Fall Seed wants to believe you, but it is not hard to tell that he struggles to share your confidence.
>Okay, you need something for him to do.
>He has to be out of the way for this to work.
>And you know what will achieve just that.
>Even when it is, admittedly, not exactly an enviable task.
>"Fall, please do us a favour. Assist Fine Point in his studies. He keeps working on the rock to see if there's still something left to discover."
>He nods.
>"Yes, I can do that. But why is this a favour in the first place?"
>You decide to be honest.
>Well, as honest as possible.
"Because you've assisted Fine Point before. You know what you are doing. And... I won't lie to you, Fall. It's a part of my plan. You're our pony at the front."
>A pause.
"You see, it would help us if you can keep Check Hill busy whilst you're working with Fine. Just grab his attention and don't listen to what the troublemaker has to blabber. And, if possible, keep the others calm too."
>Another pause.
"I know it's uncomfortable and I'm asking for a lot, but it's pivotal. All we need is a little bit of time. The more time you can buy, the better. We'll do the rest."
>The stallion takes a very deep breath.
>"Are you sure?"
>You smile again.
"I am, Fall. I promise that we won't disappoint you. If you wish, I'll bet my feathers on it."
>Fall Seed smiles faintly.
>"That won't be necessary."
>Another deep breath.
>"Very well. I'll do my best."
>With that said, Fall Seed leaves your conversation and blends into the crowd.
>And you stay true to your word and hurry up as well.
"Follow me."
>>
>>43414663
>You start to move in order to get away from the gathered ponies.
>Not necessarily because you need to be in private to communicate with the others, but because you immediately head for your home.
>#deca.mare, Firefly and Sky Squall react quickly and do the same.
>Once they catch up, Sky Squall makes sure that nobody is around before he speaks up.
>"You're aware that you promised him a lot, right?"
>You nod.
"Yep. And I meant every single word of it."
>Firefly raises her voice.
>"Where does the sudden change of mind come from? You weren't so straightforward just an hour ago."
>You turn in her direction and grin, yet you keep walking as you do so.
>"#deca gave me a valuable hint in regard to the rules of this... 'game'. Now I know how we'll win."
>The Pegasus mare tilts her head.
>"And how?"
>You keep grinning.
"A whole new strategy. We don't simply move some pieces on the game board like Discord wants us to. We'll flip the whole damn thing instead. Entirely within the parameters that were set by Harmony, of course."
>Sky Squall chimes in.
>"I like the sound of that. What are we going to do then?"
>Now you look at Sky Squall in turn, still smiling.
"I want you to leave Summer Shine. Right now."
>The Pegasus stallion stops, forcing the rest of your group to halt as well.
>"You can't be serious. You want me to... run away or something? If that's really what you have in mind, I hate that plan already."
>Sky Squall is obviously serious about this, and you know that just as well as #deca.mare and Firefly.
>And yet, you fail to suppress a giggle.
"On the contrary, Sky. You're going to love this."

Technically not.

Why did he pick the four to fuck with immediately after getting a body?... He could have picked any other place, town, ponies, heck even plant some chaos seeds for long term. Rhetorical question.

Could be a bypassing dragon, centuries ago.
>cannot say for sure what he is thinking

They could have just rotated it so the incisions face the ground. Discord probably would not be able to move it alone, and when he calls for backup there is an argument for how was he able to find it when the incisions could not be even seen. Steer the narrative in the direction of fake/planted evidence.

Too late anyway.

Why didn't he immediately said it was probably a dragon? Those have three claws on each hand.

I guess the actuators on the indoskeleton can be called magic. Also Discord does not have magic currently. At least the four does not think so.

Discord is sitting too quiet. These two are not speaking in private, so he must have overheard. It feels odd he is not yet interrupting/interjecting.
>And I can vouch for every single one of them.
Why would he know every single pony who could do this? I thought the population is already large enough that not everypony knows everypony. This is how the four slipped in. And considering the ponies living 200+ years, I doubt he knows every one of them.
>What about your foals?
Whoever asked this has room temperature IQ. Fine point just said this needs high amount of energy and is an advanced magic requiring training/learning.

Everything is important. One lie is enough to mark Check Hill as a liar.

One knows what Anon is planning, the other two have a hunch that he has a plan.

Hm, what does he likes? Besides putting an endless amount of foals in Firefly it's Flying, being in charge, being a soldier, what else? Is he going to invite an army to deal with this mysterious creature threatening a village? Then said army will look everywhere finding nothing.

Thanks for the update!

>Technically not.
You're right, of course. It's only "impossible" for Anon to do so with the means he is willing to utilise.
>What an interesting finding! Oh wait.
Yeah, it's still a few centuries until the Marshmallow Unicorn enters the scene.
>Then it is time to steer his thoughts before it forms.
>Why didn't he immediately said it was probably a dragon?
Steering Fine Point's thoughts hinges on what he sees within the evidence, so Anon had to ask him about his thoughts anyway. Anon could have said something about the possibility of this being the work of a dragon or some other creature, but it would not be much more than a theory. And a theory which Fine Point would have disproved immediately in this case. Though to be fair, Anon wasn't aware of the counterargument at that time.
>They could have just rotated it so the incisions face the ground. Discord probably would not be able to move it alone
There's a bit more to the whole thing than that. I can't say much more about it without spoilers though.
>Shower her in affection.
Kek.
>First time Anon snapped.
I think fed up is a more fitting word here. Anon got legitimately angry and had to tell Check Hill to shut up and back off for once because he was definitely going too far with this, yet Anon didn't lose the control over his temperament. If he really were close to blowing his fuse, the others, and especially #deca.mare, would have reached out to calm him down.
>Hm, if it's recent how did Discord do it?
Now that is a question for the future. ^:)
>But in this case I would have guessed that making sense would lead to a larger mess later.
That's the "nice" thing about stirring up hysteria and a panic. It doesn't have to be rational. It only has to be, in the literal sense of the word, impressive.
>>43419698
>In the meantime why don't the others look up who and how did this?
Well, at least #deca.mare is likely to have an idea of how everything came to be, considering her position. Even when she is careful not to give the game away entirely.
>Discord is sitting too quiet.
>It feels odd he is not yet interrupting/interjecting.
Keep that one in mind.
>I thought the population is already large enough that not everypony knows everypony.
Yes, that is entirely correct.
[Cont.]
>>
>>43422169
>Why would he know every single pony who could do this?
Because as Fine Point implied, high-level Unicorn scholars are widely socially connected to one another, and the different spheres of magic practitioners tend to have a "who-is-who" of the members within their own circles, and those of other renowned groups as well. Adding to that, the highly specific form of magic which Fine Point is talking about in this particular case is only known to an actual handful of ponies within his own school of healing magic, so it's very likely that he has met most, if not even all of these ponies personally at one point or another during his studies, which does give him the credibility to vouch for their integrity.
>Whoever asked this has room temperature IQ.
Fahrenheit or Celsius? :)
>So he has more in his pockets.
Of course he has. It's (Mini-)Discord we're talking about here.
>And waste his time too.
Yeah, that's the intention.
>Fighting chaos with chaos?
Perhaps?
>Hm, what does he likes?
I think we can also add ruining Discord's machinations. to that list.
>Spoiler
Well, that's pretty much universal. Probably everyone in this thread can relate to that aspiration too.

And here is chapter 189. Haven't managed to get it proofread over the weekend, so a round of burning the midnight oil was in order tonight. Ponepaste is already up to date as well. Also on a little side note, it seems like a bot of some kind has gone bananas on my text, especially part four. The paste has received a sudden influx of 10k views between this update and the last, i.e. roughly two and a half weeks. It's not the first time I've seen something like this, as there had been at least one previous occasion of a similar abnormal jump, but not on this level. This time it's about five times higher. And it's pretty annoying because it skews the numbers completely. Anyway, it's time to proceed to the text.

>The following hours pass in the blink of an eye.
>You explain to the others what you intend to do, and after a brief internal discussion over the comm channel, you eventually manage to cajole Sky Squall into leaving Summer Shine to play his part in your plan.
>In the grand scheme of things, it was not all too hard to convince him, considering that you try to crash Discord's party for good.
>Yet your friend nevertheless felt compelled to spell out his distaste of leaving a "conflict zone" prematurely.
>After all, in spite of all his queasiness when it comes to dealing with Discord's ploys upfront, Sky Squall is not a pony who runs away.
>However, your plan entails another incentive for the Pegasus to sweeten the deal.
>And this argument wins him over in the end.
>It is also the main reason why you chose him for the role.
>Well, on top of Firefly being pregnant, that is.
>She may be in a good shape, but she will certainly not reach her personal top speed in her current condition.
>Besides, sending a mare who is expecting a foal out on her own for a mission feels somewhat wrong in your opinion.
>It is simply not a good style.
>But sending Sky Squall on his way is only the first step.
>Because as soon as the stallion has headed out, with a velocity which would certainly break all standing records, the rest of the work is up to the three of you.
>And without further ado, you get to it.
>#deca.mare and Firefly follow your instructions to the letter as you refine, organise, and ultimately put your plan into practice.
>It takes the three of you the better part of the day to get everything done, and you add your final touches right at the onset of dusk.
>Fairly worn out by the constant flow of work, both physically and mentally, you finally slump into the biggest seat cushion in the living room, take off your visor with a sigh, and rub your temples.
"Boy, what a day."
>Nobody answers.
>For there is no one around who could hear you.
>#deca.mare and Firefly are still on their way back to the house.
>Same as your proxy on autopilot.
>With one pony short, thanks to Sky Squall's excursion, they had to take care of all of the outdoor tasks whilst you, in your own physical form, were busy with the activities which could be done from within the house.
>And now you are, for the time being, simply taking a break to relax.
>You casually examine the visor in silence for a short while before you place it on the adjacent cushion.
>Normally you would have put the device on the table or on a shelf, but none of these objects is currently in reach.
>So your inner laziness takes advantage of your exhaustion and convinces you to leave the visor where it is.
>Then you make yourself comfortable and close your eyes.
>>
>>43462382
>A short while later, about fifteen to twenty minutes or so, you are already about to doze off.
>However, a loud knock on the door wakes you up again.
"Huh? What?"
>A second knock.
>"Hello? Are you there?"
>A male voice.
>Fall Seed, as you quickly realise.
>You chuckle faintly.
"Sorry. No one's home."
>The Earth pony opens the unlocked door.
>"Hello?"
>He slowly steps inside and takes a look around.
>And he ignores you entirely.
>Even as his gaze meets yours head on for a second.
>"They don't seem to be here."
>You reply, fully aware that he will not hear you.
"Correct for the most part, friend."
>Yet as you say that, you ask yourself a question.
>Who is he talking to?
>He did not say that to himself.
>And the answer presents itself very quickly.
>For Fine Point steps in as well.
>"That is unfortunate. I was hoping that at least one of them would be at home. It would be the sensible thing to do if they wanted to stay in touch."
>You blink, still amused.
"Yeah, sorry. We needed all the wings and hooves we could get out there."
>Fall Seed sighs and heads for the cushions.
>"Then we should wait for their return. I'm sure they want to know what happened."
>Oh, damn it.
>You try to intervene, yet before you can do anything, Fine Seed is already sitting on the cushion with the visor.
>And, more importantly, on the visor as well.
>This in itself is not a disaster, as the device is sturdy enough to survive the weight of the pony.
>However, you somehow doubt that it makes for a very comfortable seating.
>Not to mention that he effectively blocks the device now.
>Fine Point goes on.
>"I suppose you are right."
>The Unicorn heads for the cushions as well.
"No, Fine. This spot is reserved for somebody else."
>You are already mentally preparing yourself to get out of the cushion, just in case, yet this precaution turns out to be redundant.
>Fine Point is actively trotting past your cushion in order to take a seat on the third.
>You for your part are not sure whether this was just mere luck, or whether the masking effect prompted Fine Point to ignore your current position.
>Well, you could ask #deca.mare about this.
>If you had a connection to her at the moment.
>However, with your device now out of your reach, you would have to get into your cryo unit to contact her.
>Which would be a rather cumbersome solution for such a trivial problem.
>Or alternatively, you wait for her arrival.
>After all, she is bound to arrive relatively soon as well.
>You take a breath.
"So, anyone up for a snack?"
>No reaction.
>You shrug.
"Okay. As you wish."
>As you try to come up with more pointless questions, Fall Seed speaks up.
>"Say, do you have any idea what the four are planning?"
>Fine Point shakes his head.
>"None. But if they're determined to shed some light on this matter, I'd be happy for it."
>>
>>43462385
>You nod.
"Already in progress, friend."
>The Unicorn goes on.
>"I don't see their strategy though, whatever it is."
>Fall Seed again.
>"They're convinced that the Hum Hen story is fake. I guess they'll try to prove that. It's what I would do."
>A pause.
>"Don't ask me how, though."
>The Unicorn stallion nods.
>"That would be the best outcome for sure. And it would calm the village down again too. Everypony is far too nervous for my tastes."
>He takes a breath.
>"But I have to admit that the scholar in me is... slightly fascinated by the possibilities. Should the Hum Hen actually exist, studying it up close would be a gold mine."
>You chuckle.
"Probably not as much as you'd think, Fine. I'm not as wicked as Discord makes me out to be."
>And Fall Seed does not agree with the Unicorn either.
>"No, thanks. I can live perfectly fine without some grotesque beast haunting our home."
>You chime in.
"Okay, that stung a little."
>You sigh.
"Fall, I suppose you can't stand up for just a second, right? I'd like to grab the visor to contact the others."
>No such luck.
>The Earth pony stallion goes on.
>"Do you know what the worst part is? By now, I'm pretty sure that they're right about Check Hill's story. It doesn't make much sense."
>A pause.
>"But it's slowly getting to me still. Step by step. And no matter how hard I try, I can't shake the feeling that something watches me. Even now, as we speak."
>You grumble as you hear that.
"Yeah. I hate to say it, but that's one of the few parts in Discord's fairy tale which isn't totally off the mark."
>Fine Point smiles and his horn starts to glow.
>"If it puts your mind at ease, I don't feel anything strange in the vicinity. It's just the two of us... and a third minor presence."
>Hold on.
>Does he notice you, at least subconsciously?
>That would not be good at all.
>You eye Fine Point closely.
>And Fall Seed reacts to that remark as well.
>"Wait? A third presence?"
>Fine Point nods calmly.
>"Yes. It's a bird. Directly on the roof."
>You exhale and relax immediately.
"Phew. Don't scare me like that, boy."
>Fall Seed responds.
>"A bird? Really?"
>Another nod.
>"Yes. Its patterns are easy to recognise. They're everywhere in the forests."
>You grin.
"Chirp."
>Fall Seed chuckles as well.
>"Your power never ceases to amaze me. How far does it reach?"
>Fine Point inhales.
>"That depends on a couple of factors. Generally speaking, the closer I am to a presence, the easier it is for me to identify and examine it. Yet larger signatures can be, for the lack of a better word, 'vaguely read' over greater distances as well."
>>
>>43462390
>Another pause.
>"It's like comparing a pebble to a mountain. You need to be very close to the pebble to notice it in the first place, but once you've seen it, you can approach it for a thorough examination with a few mere steps."
>Fall Seed grasps what Fine Point alludes to, so he completes the analogy for the Unicorn.
>"And the mountain is the other side of the coin. You can see it far and wide and get a general idea of what the mountain is like, but you don't see the details unless you travel there yourself, right?"
>The light Unicorn nods.
>"Precisely. And right now, two pony-shaped mountains and an avian pebble are all I can see."
>He chuckles.
>"Also, there's nothing in the cellar this time either."
>Hold on, what?
>It is unfortunate for you that you cannot ask Fine Point what he means.
>However, it turns out that you do not have to.
>Because Fall Seed is doing that for you already.
>"The cellar? What's up with that old thing?"
>Fine Point laughs faintly.
>"Let's just say that a certain Pegasus was hiding down there for a while, every time I came here for a weekly examination."
>Really?
>Did Firefly tell him that detail, or did he know that all along?
>Judging from Fine Point's own description, the second option sounds more likely.
>Yet again, you cannot confirm your theory.
>Fall Seed tilts his head.
>"Oh? And what for?"
>Fine Point inhales.
>"Without revealing too much, let us just say that the Pegasus in question had some doubts about my profession. Or rather, the execution of it."
>Fall Seed nods calmly.
>"Ah, the same reservations you faced when you settled here?"
>The Unicorn smiles.
>"Yes. I have already suspected this after my first visit. And I was proven right in the end."
>He keeps smiling as he pauses.
>"It's all fine and settled now though. We had a little conversation and that was it. No hard feelings on either side."
>So he knew all along.
>Yet he chose not to push the issue back then.
>Because Fine Point counted on Firefly consulting him on her own terms instead.
>Which was the right call for sure.
>You eye Fine Point again.
>It seems like you have underestimated the stallion.
>Sure, you always knew that his mind is quite sharp, yet you did not expect him to see that much.
>But perhaps it is this unusual intuition which prompts Fine Point to side with you so easily in the current dispute.
>After all, it is possible, maybe even likely, that a subconscious part of him feels that you are right all along.
>Once again, you wish you could talk to the others.
>And once more, you have no tools to do so.
>However, your ponderings get interrupted by Fine Point.
>For the Unicorn raises his voice.
>"Well, what do you know. Somepony is approaching."
>Fall Seed's ears perk up.
>"Hm? I don't hear anything yet. Do your magic senses tell you that?"
>>
>>43462395
>A silent nod.
>"You're sure it's a pony, right?"
>Fine Point laughs.
>"Not only that. It's one of the ponies we're waiting for."
>Good.
>That is a step in the right direction.
>You keep listening to the conversation between Fall Seed and Fine Point.
>Then, roughly five minutes later, you start to hear steps outside.
>And you are not the only one.
>Fine Point raises his voice.
>"There he is."
>He?
>Considering that Sky Squall is currently not in the vicinity, this can only mean one thing.
>Your proxy has arrived.
>The very same proxy which you have instructed to return with the help of your visor.
>This is a bit of a nuisance, albeit not exactly a problem.
>Due to your current lack of control over the proxy, #deca.mare simply has to take over for you.
>The door opens and you are greeted by the sight of, well, "you".
>Your proxy looks at Fall Seed, and as he turns to Fine Point, he eyes you for a fraction of a second.
>"Oh, hello. Nice to meet you."
>Fall Seed speaks up.
>"Likewise. I think I speak for both of us when I say it's a relief to see you're back."
>He hesitates for a moment.
>"I hope this isn't too straightforward, but how is everything going? The plan, I mean. When does it start?"
>"You" inhale before "you" give him an answer.
>"Well... expect something tomorrow. That is all I can say."
>The Earth pony nods slowly.
>"Tomorrow then. I see. We'll have to make do until then, I suppose."
>The wording of that remark strikes you as somewhat odd.
>He sounds as if something grave has happened and you have no idea what it is.
>Yet you are in luck.
>Because the proxy poses the exact same questions which you thought of just a second ago.
>"Make do? Did I miss something?"
>#deca.mare does her best impression of you, as it seems.
>Fine Point takes over.
>"Yes. Our guest has suggested to organise a night vigil in Summer Shine."
>You groan.
>And your proxy mirrors your reaction to a degree by sighing audibly.
>"Wait, say no more. I assume everypony agreed to the proposal at once."
>The light Unicorn sighs as well.
>"They are forming a provisional guard as we speak."
>Your proxy grumbles.
>"Check Hill is going too far. He messes with our very way of life at this point."
>With that said, your proxy pauses and smiles.
>"Too bad for him that it will not last."
>Fall Seed again.
>"I trust your judgement. But to be honest, I would feel better if we knew what you're planning."
>Your proxy chuckles now.
>"We do not plan anymore, Fall. The plan is already set in motion. You have nothing to worry about."
>Your proxy starts to move and approaches one of the cushions as he speaks.
>Yours, to be precise.
>>
>>43462400
>And you think you see the vague outline of a smirk for a mere moment.
"#deca, you know that's not what I meant when I said this place is reserved."
>You decide not to go on with your commentary and get out of the way instead.
>So you quickly get up and step aside.
>Well, stumble aside would be more fitting, but never mind.
>The proxy takes your former seat and speaks up again.
>"Mark my words. By this time tomorrow, the matter will be settled. And I am convinced that nopony will believe in this story of a strange creature in the forests anymore."
>#deca.mare spreads the wings of the proxy.
>And before you can ask yourself what she is trying to accomplish, you feel the wing wrapping around your back.
>Then she pulls you in by retracting the limbs again, prompting you to land on the cushion right next to the proxy.
>Still firmly embraced by the wing, of course.
>"Everything will be completely back to normal in a few days. You will see."
>You try to move, but #deca.mare holds you tight.
>She effectively hugs you with your own proxy.
"Look, #deca, I'm glad we're done with setting up everything as well. But shouldn't we wait until you've come home in person? This constellation right now... is a tad strange."
>#deca.mare turns the head of the proxy slightly to glance in your direction.
>Then she starts to whisper.
>"Be patient, Anon. Just a moment."
>The whispers feign a certain degree of subtlety, yet it is more than obvious that the words were loud enough to be heard by Fall Seed and Fine Point alike.
>However, neither of the two shows any sort of reaction.
>#deca.mare must have masked this gesture to talk to you directly.
>You are about to respond, but Fine Point, still completely unaware of your presence, goes on.
>"Ah, here they come."
>He looks at the Earth pony stallion.
>"They're almost here."
>Fall Seed takes that information in and nods.
>With that said, the discussion goes on for a couple of minutes.
>Then the door opens again, revealing a familiar pair of mares.
>#Firefly and #deca.mare step into the house and examine the gathering in front of them.
>And #deca.mare uses the proxy to take the initiative by addressing the two newcomers right away.
>"Come in. We have company."
>#deca.mare, now with her own body, speaks up.
>"Oh, Fall and Fine. Hello. How are you?"
>Fall Seed is the first to reply.
>"Good, considering the circumstances."
>Fine Point takes over.
>"We came here to tell you what happened in your absence. And perhaps to discuss what we're going to do now. I assume you haven't heard anything, correct?"
>Firefly speaks up.
>"When I flew over Summer Shine proper, I saw a lot of lanterns. It looks like a gathering of some sort."
>>
>>43462407
>Based on your knowledge of Firefly's flight path back to the house, you do not think that the story is entirely accurate.
>For she came from the opposite direction.
>So you assume that #deca.mare has briefed her before the two returned to the house together.
>"You" take over.
>"That is right. Check Hill convinced the ponies to form a vigil."
>Firefly sighs as she keeps playing her role.
>"What a gadfly. At least it won't go on for much longer."
>Fall Seed reacts to that.
>"Yes, that's what we heard. But nopony has told us why you think that."
>Firefly stretches her body and her wings before she sits down on the last vacant cushion.
>In the meantime, #deca.mare approaches your cushion.
>Which prompts her to loosen the embrace of the proxy, allowing you to move a little.
>Now you understand what #deca.mare has intended all along.
>So you shuffle to the side in order to allow #deca.mare to sit down right between you and the proxy.
>The comparatively spacious cushion is now completely stuffed to the gills, but the two or three of you, depending on the perspective, have just about enough room to sit comfortably.
>Firefly goes on whilst #deca.mare and you are still working on the final details of your arrangement.
>"You will understand when you see it tomorrow."
>Fall Seed accepts that answer, yet it is not hard to see that he would have hoped for a tad more.
>Fine Point is the next to speak up.
>He addresses Firefly.
>"By the way, where's your husband? I haven't seen him at all after our last gathering."
>Firefly grins.
>"Oh, he's chasing after the sunset."
>The light Unicorn tilts his head.
>"I'm afraid I can't follow. Is that 'chase', whatever it means, a part of your plan?"
>The Pegasus mare starts to laugh.
>"It is. And it's not just a part of our plan. It's the heart of it."
>Fine Point blinks twice in polite silence.
>Yet the blank expression on his face reveals his inner confusion.
>He looks like his mind has just tried to divide by zero.
>"I... see. And if I were to ask for details, you'll say..."
>Firefly completes the sentence for him.
>"Tomorrow."
>Fine Point goes on.
"... tomorrow, yes."
>"You" raise your voice.
>"Since you are here, how about a late supper? We still have plenty of stuff to go around."
>Everyone agrees.
>So your proxy stands up and heads for the kitchen.
>You turn to #deca.mare.
"We should give them a little bit more than that. It's ungrateful to leave them fully in the dark, you know? They've done everything in their power to help us, so we should return the favour."
>As far as you are able to, at least.
>After all, it is impossible for you to reveal the whole plan to them.
>For rather obvious reasons.
>>
>>43462410
>#deca.mare inhales.
>"I know. And perhaps you are right."
>She pauses.
>"Fall, Fine, maybe there is something we can tell you. But you have to promise not to tell anypony else a word of it. Family members included."
>Fine Point chimes in.
>"That sounds ominous."
>#deca.mare shakes her head.
>"No, it is not. We merely do not want Check Hill to hear any of it. It shall take him by surprise. And the best way to accomplish that is to keep the number of ponies who are in the know as low as possible."
>Fall Seed inhales.
>"That makes sense."
>A pause.
>"Alright, I promise not to say anything."
>Fine Point nods.
>"Me too."
>#deca.mare takes a breath.
>"Very well. Then listen up."

anyway it is interesting to see how thorough the sensory block in place is. Though I'd assume Discord could, should he desire (and think it would be funny) interrupt it to some degree or repurpose it to present the warped image he's crafted so far.

Kek. It's kind of close to it, but she did make up for this in the end.
>Discord could, should he desire (and think it would be funny) interrupt it to some degree
That would be interesting for sure, but he would have to find a way to spin it in such a fashion that Harmony would not see it as a definite obstruction of how things are going. And that might be a tricky challenge.

Are there any good Fleetfoot greens?
I love that mare, but one of the few that I know of (which happens to be in the OP) is unfinished.
And Fleetfooted had such an interesting start, too.

it would take a rather convoluted series of tiny, seemingly harmless program conflicts that don't do anything until they all hit at the same time, and while that would be in his idiom I don't think he's got the time to set it up, especially while being watched.

Yeah, he'd have to circumvent a whole set of standing safeguard systems which have been implemented to prevent him from doing just that. Discord would essentially require to "jailbreak" himself, or at least a small part of himself, to pull this off. But what he might be able to do with "relative" ease is to convince Harmony that a temporary tampering with the masking might be useful for some reason.
