I don't know about AI, but I had an LLM write out >>38455345 into a story for me and it was a good idea after all. I guess I got away with it? This crowd is pretty judgemental about using LLMs and I don't feel bad about it. I also feel better equipped to detect LLM usage in stories and I learned some new skills in self-hosting and firewall manipulation.

2.7/10. Twenty years in the future, Daring decides to kill herself in front of Ahuizotl after spending two years living as a wild hobo. Somehow even worse than Hollow. The angst is combined with self-loathing to form an even more unpleasant reading experience as Daring bitches for 5k about how her life sucks. I don't know if it was me, but it felt hard reading the story, like the author has this strange narrative style that is just difficult to mentally map out.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/395778/the-twilight-perspective-raw

5.5/10. Dash accidentally creates a rune while writing in a Daring Do book and can talk to the fictional version of her. A short comedy/SoL, it's got some nice Twidash antics and Daring goes along with the tags as well despite what should be an existential crisis for her. The typos, though. I'm not usually affected by them but this was jarring. I don't know how someone mixes up "beagle" and "bagel", let alone does it twice. Add to it the story just stopping without actually fully revealing the rune thing. That (RAW) is well deserved.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/393393/death-of-the-author

6.5/10. Dash time travels to the future and gets Daring a robot body so she can live forever. It's definitely got that "comedy fic" tone and feel to it, which I'd say you need to be in the right mood for to fully enjoy. The plot's goofy and absurdist, the >no hooves folks won't like the EqG inclusions (and neither does Robo Daring), and it has a very sudden and abrupt ending where it feels like the author just kind of stalled out, but I was in the right mood for it.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/367827/evil-is-easy-governing-is-harder

7.7/10. Princess Celestia becomes an evil tyrant and kidnaps Daring Do's assistant, forcing a confrontation. This one also has that "comedy fic" tone and feel, but it's a bit less heavy than Death of the Author's. The plot was surprisingly delightful and fairly tight and well put together for an absurdist comedy oneshot, though it does strain the typical "oneshot" definition a bit given it's 17k. A very nice comedy fic, though I do feel like it could be trimmed a bit to remove some of the fat.

I've tried messing around a bit with a coding agent but with a system prompt telling it to be a writing assistant instead. The idea is to be able to refine a story idea down to an outline, then a detailed sequence of events for each scene, then finally to actual prose, with lots of manual editing at each step to keep the AI from making dumb decisions. It's kinda fun, but I've been busy with other projects and haven't finished anything with it yet.

Finally finished reading the fic, tl;dr read part one in a day, waited MONTHS and just finished part 2 also in a single day
What can I say? Despite fic's great attempts at trying to make le dogs interesting I still don't care about them: I was mostly hooked for Anon, his past and various "relics" of Old Equestria. Perhaps I'm too autistic with my disregard for G%, but I literally won't be able to name anyone from G% if you give me screencaps or promo art of the movie/shows. Hell, in about an hour I won't be able to even name G% characters present in the fic. Romanslop just made even less sense, especially with how generic it felt. Anon's misery of the past was far more engaging than whatever the fuck he had in the present
Also the whole thing being a "headcanon version" of G% is extremely silly with how it doesn't try to remove its most glaring problem (i.e. common tech of 21st human century in a fantasy post-apocalyptic world). If you openly state that's it's not based on canon then why the fuck are you following it to this degree?
worst parts are Shitter being plot-relevant in Pt.1 and Anon /pol/sperging with FVLL QF RQME in Pt. 2
best part is insane Chekhov Gun with Discord

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/367630/historical-gaps

9/10. While having tea with Twilight, Daring remembers her real adventures and the history that has been buried by its immortal victors. I really liked this one. It sets itself up as a "dug too deep" kind of thing where Daring discovers some ancient monsters that destroyed the world, only to find out the real monsters were the alicorns we met along the way. The contrast between the cute Twilight SoL scenes and the genocidal founding of Equestria is great. The last scene I particularly like. It would have been easy in a dark fic for Celestia to threaten Daring during their visit, to keep the secrets buried. Instead, she just acts mournful at what she had to do to found Equestria and no threats, either real or implied, are made. Really good oneshot.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/561106/closing-hours

4/10. Rainbow Dash stays in a library in Cloudsdale after it closes. I swear, the 1k contest will go down as the biggest waste of stories on the site. I don't think I've read a single one that couldn't have benefited from being three times as long. This one's written in present tense, which grates at me for some reason. As with virtually all these 1k horror fics, the whole thing is just "what the fuck is happening?" It's not even really horror at that point, just concerned confusion.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/364618/its-just-you-and-me

6/10. Daring and Ahuizotl have another climatic confrontation to one of her adventures. I'd call this one a textbook Daring Do oneshot. Pretty standard Daring plot and it fumbles a bit with the emotional payoff at the end, but it's not bad.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/364546/mysteries-of-the-chamber

7/10. Daring Do treks into a mountain to discover the settlement within. The SoL tag does a lot of heavy lifting here. I didn't think it was possible to do a SoL Daring fic that follows the standard adventure plot, but this one pulls it off quite well. It's comfy with a little action at the end. The only negative is it feels long in the tooth at times, especially since very little action ends up happening.

Reading authors' blogs that aren't directly about a fic of theirs is simply asking for finding stuff like this.
Desu the part I find the worst isn't even the 'threat' (politics tots your brain if you indulge), but how he writes about it. Just acknowledge that you had a huge retard moment in public and move on. But apparently he prefers to make up strawmares, and responding to people he blocked to have the final say. That's just very childish coming from an author whose writing I respect.

>And this is on top of banning people for simply going "what the fuck?"
Any proof?
>>
>>43523582
Self-promotion is completely fine, yes.
I am looking forward to reading it once you finish the story. Any ideas about how many chapters do you want it to be, or is that a secret?

>>43523672
Great, now you can finish Blankness as well!
>>
>>43523641
Still far from the ~10000 BronyCon peak.

Kind of an open secret. The album's 14 songs long, so 14 chapters.

>>
>>43523766
For sure. I was at every Baltimore BronyCon, as well as the one in New Jersey. For my money, the fandom's golden age was 2012-15. I agree with John de Lancie's viewpoint of it being basically the next Trekkies. It might shrink, but I don't foresee it dying anytime soon.

All we can gather from this is that the guy is harmless because he's profondly, terminally autistic, and probably unable to lift even a pistol.
>>
>>43523106
I didn't check the blog but the quoted anonymous joke is funny; were people really pissy about that of all things or was there something of substance?
>>
>>43524018
Everyone understands that if the "joke" had instead been about, say, homosexual pride parades, then it wouldn't have been tolerated and probably would've resulted in a ban immediately. Instead, one of the staff members defended it.
>>
>>43523891
I came across Estee's blog before I heard of any of his stories. I hate his blog style so much that I've never tried to read any of his fiction. To me, he sounds self-centered and insufferable. I tried reading this post and I couldn't. His head is too far up his own ass.
>>
>>43524030
Don't worry, his fiction isn't good either
>>
>>43523891
theyre fucking slaughtering him in the comments
>>
>>43524025
No, no, you could totally make a joke about running over queer people's pelvises resulting in sexual identification being off the table, you just need to be funny. Don't unironically pull the oppressed minority card like a wuss.
>>43524030
I've largely liked what of Estee's stories I've read. I know of charming users whose fics fucking suck, so I have no problem believing in the opposite too. The idea that quality of character and quality of resulting art are that closely related is dumb.
>>
>>43524041
>I know of charming users whose fics fucking suck
Yeah like kaz seems pretty nice.
>>
>>43524025
>if the "joke" had instead been about, say, homosexual pride parades
I know you try to make it so with your presence there, but gay prides aren't known to be largely associated with channers, so the disfigurement joke doesn't land at all. You should really work on your reading comprehension.
>>
>>43524046
>kaz seems pretty nice
Nah, he sucks too, but his prose and narrative skills do seem to have improved from garbage to merely mediocre, notwithstanding the ceaseless insufferability of his persona.
>>
>>43524052
He just needs to do more than narrate the comic he commissions. Get into the character's heads, really flesh out their thoughts about being a bunch of knocked up horse sluts, or whatever.
>>
>>43524053
Or he could just not indulge in his fetish. Difficult, I know.
>>
>>43524059
What if pregnancy was a misdirection and his real fetish is bland prose?
>>
>>43524059
You can indulge your fetish as much as you like and still write praised stories if your fetish is esoteric enough.
>>

It's true, that Celestia suckling fic has something like 600 upvotes.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/362256/daring-do-and-the-tome-of-adventure

2/10. "Daring Do" sneaks into a building to retrieve a tome. Bad formatting aside, this one feels amateurish in the writing style and narration. It's got that sort of "new writer" feel to it. I like the twist at the end, even if it is just copypasting the scene from Read It and Weep.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/360475/daring-do-and-the-frozen-wonder

5/10. Daring Do tries to track down Rainbow Dash, who's been MIA for over a year. This one's a weird one as it's a prelude oneshot to a 70k deadfic, so it's a little hard to judge. On its own merits, it's okay, but that connection to the deadfic really weighs it down a lot as it constantly feels like there's something bigger going on that is just out of the reader's reach.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/353864/how-to-win-enemies-and-influence-ponies

3.5/10. Daring Do, Dash, and an OC I don't care enough about to copypaste the name of attend a charity event for mooks that Ahuizotl crashes. It's a comedy fic that fell flat for me, and not in the fetish way. I'd been expecting some mook/redshirt-related meta humor, but there wasn't much of it to be found. The whole thing just seemed very awkward and wooden. The OC, in particular, hogged the spotlight way more than he should have. I can only assume he's the Cloud Kicker of this thing. If this is the Weedverse, I'm not impressed.

See also "Arianne". It could simply be simple-mindedness, but I don't discount the possibility that he's deliberately mangling these names to deny us some notion of dignity.

Maybe he spends too much time in dicksword calls with other fags who talk about Aryanne and the ebil "slash mlp". He probably picked up the pronunciations without ever registering the correct spellings after constantly hearing these names and terms spoken instead of seeing them written.
Or maybe he's just retarded.

>Yu-Gi-Oh crossover
I'm still reading it. The outside of duel content is a decently well done tournament arc that blends MLP and Yu-Gi-Oh well. My consistent problem is the duels. Twilight's deck is built around using cards in your hand at unexpected time, recovering cards from the graveyard, and searching the deck. It's the worst designed protagonist's deck that I can imagine. Twilight essentially has her entire 40-card deck available at any given time, but the author never even bothered to tell us what cards she has in her hand. Not only can we not track what she has, we cannot track what she has access to. How am I supposed to feel tension in a battle scene if I do not know what moves are available to the protagonist?

A worse matter is that the plot has explicitly acknowledged that both Twilight and Sunset have the power to create new cards when they draw. Twilight therefore cannot lose to anyone but Sunset. Not only was that already obvious given the premise, it's now a built-in part of the plot. At least two of the three Yu-Gi-Oh protagonists that made a habit of that kind of thing either had restrictions on it. Yuma, of course, was up against so much bullshit that he needed it.

>>
The real problem is that disfigurement through headshots is retarded and wasteful; the joke would land much better if first you killed people with an assault rifle through general body shots and then used a hammer for the faces. Of course, you'd still actually have to burn the whole place if you wanted to properly make them unidentifiable. I'm frankly disappointed in Estee for half-assing the joke instead of actually escalating it like you're supposed to.

>>
>>43523066
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/587791/probably-not
a bit of a minor case, but i still think it counts. the fic is a representation of physical documents that exist in-universe, and it uses text that's almost the same color as the background to represent impressions left by a quill with no ink. also just as a fic, i really like it. definitely my favorite example of the "horrifying anomalies start happening to twilight" subgenre. both because of how interesting the anomalies in the fic are, and because the fic as a whole is extremely ________________________pony.
>>
>>43525476
If the joke was about some other con or another part of the fandom, would you, Estee or anyone who agrees with him simply laugh it up as dark humor? I'm willimg to bet that you all wouldn't.
>>
the best part about this is how estroon can no longer claim that anyone is threatening him because "it's just a joke bro" cuts both ways
>>
>>43525476
>Mare Fair attendees (and by extension /mlp/)
They have nothing in common.
>>
>>43525610
My point was that it's weird that the guys who are notorious for not caring about violent rhetoric and edgy humor are suddenly acting offended at violent rhetoric and edgy humor because it's directed at them now.
There would be no reason to make this point about any other con or part of the fandom because they don't have the same reputation of being "edgy". Going apeshit at a vague threat of violence would just be everyday normal behavior for them. There would be no hypocrisy or change in behavior
>>
>>43525671

>>43525588
Shit, any screencaps on that? If there were posts of them actually planning it genuinely I could see that being alarming, but it's also likely just some people having a power trip fantasy.
