Hard Reset 2: Reset Harder.
A clusterfuck sequel story about time loops I was enjoying until I reached a very specific line that pissed me off and made me stop reading. Instead of the timeline resetting with each loop, an entirely NEW timeline is created. To me, creating a new timeline and to 'save' the world is completely pointless. Your original reality is doomed. All you did was spawn in a whole new universe to satisfy your own 'victory'. You didn't save shit. If anything, you've created exponentially more suffering because a whole universe is spawned in every time you fail to succeed. Imagine some bumfuck tried to save Franz Ferdinand, failed, and disappeared to try again and our timeline is just one of many of his failed attempts. That this entire world we live in was created not by God, but by a time traveller who failed to accomplish his goal.

That's my autistic rant. I like time travel stories but timeline stories piss me off.

I don't know why so many early fandom fics can't generally just stick to their initial premise and have to go off the rails anyway.
>>

Wasn't that a plot point in one of the original Hard Reset sequels?
>>
>>43491065
Well, that's pretty gay. I hate timeline divergence shit thanks to mainstream media and I have it in my to-read. Pretty sure there's another sequel though, I don't know if it's any good.

>>43491091
Each sequel is worse than the one before it, there's no need to read any past the original.
However, he's still misrepresenting it. In the story, both Twilight's time travel spell and any invocations of the Elements split reality, which is a pointlessly edgy factoid, but there is a third detail. Harmony as a semi-sentient force of nature also naturally chases down the diverged timelines and erases them, so it's not like time travelling exponentially increases suffering like he says. All of the bad endings eventually never existed.
>>
>>43491122
Right, I forgot about that. Been years since I read it. Still fucked that you "exist" within a doomed world only to be erased right after. Kinda like a bunch of Boltzmann brain's, where you exist for a single moment in time and then dissipate altogether.

I half wrote a parody ending to Biblical Monsters where the military takes over the scene, amazed at the utter retardation of Adam and the protag for responding to an alien's offer of world peace and weather control by bashing her head in with a pipe.

Felt too much like a shitty fix/rant fic so I never bothered finishing it.

>>43491065
>Your original reality is doomed
DBZ, one of the progenitors of the plot, actually had a really nice take on it, with Trunks returning to his fucked up timeline with his shonen power up from helping the new timeline so he could rebuild his. A shame DBS decided to throw it all away.

>>43491122
>chases down the diverged timelines and erases them
Kek, it's the Starlight meme. Twilight ends up killing quintillions when the alternate timelines collapse and entire universes are wiped out of existence. Reminds me of one of the last chronological Winningverse fics where that literally happens and means the original Winningverse timeline got wiped out by Starlight in the S5 finale and replaced by a near identical replica.

I still vividly recall workshopping that story. My contribution was basically saying that I felt the ending needed something; the first draft was much shorter, and it ended with Twilight just going home and the humans being all, "Damn, I wish I'd gotten a picture!" or something. A week later, I saw the story that eventually got published.

Our little bro in IN,
>/FSBC/

While you were out there having homosex orgies at the Marefair and the Gala, I was at home, reading―enjoying―Spike romance, so who's the real :faggot: now, huh? The answer is still, as tradition would have it, the OP.
Anyway, in order to temper myself and be fair to the fic, I'll do the opposite of what I did last week. I'm writing this part as if I were still on the Step Eight chapter. And in that light, I actually grew to like the fic. Oh, of course we get our state-mandated "misunderstanding ruins things" as the main problem to solve, and the fic is hardly groundbreaking in its genres. But it really doesn't need to be. Like everyone said, it's a very light, extremely "pony" read, with decent characterization and pretty good writing to boot. That alone kind of makes it impossible to dislike. I'm shocked that I'm saying these things, but I... liked the humor in it? Not all of it, mind you, but several of the jokes and situations I found funny. Perhaps even more shocking is that the romance half of the equation is also not bad? I'm not saying the fic is perfect, but being at least 90% "good" in nearly every aspect does end up making it a good story. My gripes with the characterizations, the writing, and the pacing (in this order) are relatively minor and not worth elaborating upon. Well, aside from this Pinkie being surprisingly good about half the time and pretty OOC like 20% of the time, though I'm not a Ponk expert. The fic also dodges the common oldfic issue of forced M6 participation―their appearances are important here, and they don't overstay their welcome. Very funny Rainbow "Blunt Object" Dash, and that matches her early-season self.

And then comes the last chapter. Look, here's the thing. I'm a sucker for simple, cheesy romance like this. I don't read it much because I have higher expectations of myself, but when I do stumble into it, I'm going to like it. So yeah, I was very invested in the fic's finale, I didn't at all mind that it was extremely predictable and rather cliche, and the resolution left me with that warm fuzzy feeling in the abyss of my heart. /ourguy/ Spike really made it, and I couldn't be happier for him. I don't think I'll favorite the fic, but perhaps I should, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone for championing this story. Good stuff. I really, really did not expect to say that.

[Voting]
I was lazy last week, so we get to vote today instead. Actually, I'm arguably even more busy, but I can't procrastinate on this any longer. Some old picks from the list:

>What happened to all the good fics?
You're not recommending them! Also, the fics that look good get voted on and read earlier, leaving the more questionable ones to rot in the queue.

That said, of those five, I think that Celestia Plays Dice is most likely good and almost definitely not immortality blues.
The CrisisOn2Equestrias / Lines&Webs / FotF don't catch my interest at first glance, but speaking from experience, there is like a 40% chance they are at least decent, and maybe 10% that they are somehow much better than expected (like this Spikefic was).

>>43497739
>i thought that applied to incomplete series as well.
I don't think that's necessary. Fics in a series should be standalone-ish in that they don't need you to read the rest. Sequel hooks are fine, but the main plot of the fic should be resolved before the story ends. The Celestia Code is effectively ~98% its own thing, for example, and TwiGuard 1 is the same.
Yes, a lot of people break this rule, and you end up with fake sequels where Book 1 actually just ends in the middle of the plot, and those ones we probably shouldn't vote on, but it's hard to know ahead of time unless someone itt says something (like what happened with Upheaval or DoWaS).

>rd just shows up to the library in the middle of the night during the meeting and she's completely oblivious
kek
>"Maybe he'll screw up later, Rarity thought, finishing up her tea."

Well I liked it. It managed to stay episode-like and even included all the M6 getting together to solve an issue. And for the most part it maintained the ponyness as well. I particularly liked AJ going into Carousel Boutique and chewing Rarity out for being a bitch. That said, Rarity actually admitting her love in the last 2 pages was whatever, and it's maybe weird that no one at all commented on it (the possibility of reciprocation) throughout the whole fic. Especially when Twi was really trying to get him ready for the denial that was apparently societally expected. But then Rarity just asks someone who is CMC aged out on a date and no one bats an eye. Whatever. Good for Spike.

>>43497555
>of course we get our state-mandated "misunderstanding ruins things"
I mean, sure that plays a part but it's mostly just Rarity not wanting to be a foal fucker and finally realizing she's just being mean and unfair to Spike because of that. I did like the scene where she really thinks about it and how ungenerous she's being towards him.
>it's a very light, extremely "pony" read, with decent characterization and pretty good writing to boot
definitely
>but I... liked the humor in it?

Yeah this was a surprise. It had a very natural build up to everyone getting involved, bar maybe Rainbow flying into the meeting in the middle of the night but that was at least amusing.

Rarity is apparently fine with it, but it must be weird for Twilight. One of your best friends suddenly starts dating your younger sibling. What's next, RD hooks up with Applebloom? I was also going to say that the M6 are probably fine with it because they know Rarity, but she was already abusing him since the start of the show, so...
>I did like the scene where she really thinks about it and how ungenerous she's being towards him.
I'm not saying that this is one of the greats of fimfic, but the fic was sort of more mature and less naive, immature, simple (I can't exactly pick the word here) than anything would suggest, and I liked that it put a bit of thought into the story instead of rattling off romcom cliches from start to finish.

Last week I said that even thought I liked the story, I doubted that I would be able to find anything new to comment on. That statement is still correct. I could make a joke about Spike being a grave robber or Rarity being a cradle robber, but it would be a little distasteful for something as pure and "classic" as this. This is a good story to read when you A) like Spike and B) need a light pick me up.

Yeah this was my exact thought. What if one of the big sisters gets with one of the little sisters? That's exactly what's happening here and somehow not only is there no problems, but no one even says anything.
>I was also going to say that the M6 are probably fine with it because they know Rarity, but she was already abusing him since the start of the show, so...
fucking kek, even worse. Twilight should brought Rarity aside and straight up threatened her about messing with Spike or not being serious.
>"Rarity, I swear on Celestia if you are only joking about being a pedo and you aren't serious about this, I will make sure you fear any sort of royalty for the rest of your life. I don't think I need to remind you that Celestia is basically Spike's aunt, do I?"
kek
>but the fic was sort of more mature and less naive
Yeah, it took itself seriously (not in an anti-[Comedy] way) enough to actually try and it paid off.

I am seeking a work that was written I believe in 2016-2018. It was called "Principia Celestia: The Book of Celestia" and was allegedly written by /mlp/. It is a religious text similar to "Principia Disordia" except it idealizes order. I can no longer find this work.

rephrase: is reading the Austraeoh series worth it AND Why or why not? anything standout in there? anything contingent on the person reading it? who would you recommend Austaeoh to and who would you suggest shying away from it to?
>>
>>43501169
I think Austraeoh, the story, is a great read. It veers a tad into the experimental, but it remains a solid adventure story with an underlying mystery that delivers solidly. To a degree, all the little quirks like inconsistencies, minor plotholes due to contradictions sprouting from skirts writing by the seat of his skirt, sort of add like the experience.
A definite recommendation, everyone should give it a shot. Just ignore the last line of the last chapter.
Austraeoh, the series, is a different matter. As a whole, it continues what the first story does, expands on the mystery, gives more info into Dash's backstory, what happened back in Equestria, builds the world more, and expands the cast quite considerably.
It also builds upon the negative aspects of that first story. More inconsistencies, onomatopoeias galore, and so on.
Also, on the point of the cast, I think the only way for you to get the most of that experience is to travel back in time to 2012~2015 and be part of the commenting community. Every major user in the comments got a shout out in the form of a town, minor character, city, vehicle, or major character, or co-protagonist of the story. It was a fun experience.
Overall. Read the first one. I hope you enjoy it. It's really worth it. If you really want more, read Eljunbyro. That should show you how the rest of the story will play out. If you want to visit Ledomare for two and a half stories, read on and stop in Yaefaerda, stopping before the last chapter and make up your own ending.
If you reeeeeeeally want more, know that the story will never end and Dash will never reach her goal (which is sort of thematically fitting, in a way) then read on and check the remaining three stories.
>>
I want something that's basically the Belgariad but ponies. But like, with less of the author being a serial child abuser.

So like Wheel of Time but with ponies.
>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

Do I add to my current chapter, already the longest in the story, or just proofread and publish the fucking thing already? If one, the former, the latter if two.
>>
>>43499539
Yes, but I would recommend stopping after Utaan and not bothering with Ofolrodi. It's a decent enough end point anyways and Ofolrodi is honestly the worst of the whole series so far.

>>43501169
Yes, it's a fantastic, engaging, satisfying, creative, and wondrous story that will always leave you wanting more.
>>
>>43501131
Nuh uh. Skirts gets Luna's speech wrong so badly that it hurts when I remember it!!
>>43501169
It really is engaging, even in its more strange moments. Skirts did a great job at showing off the mystery of the setting. I ended up caring for the characters that I hated.
I had a few letdowns, like all the gay shit. There's a lot of it. It's like an adventure fic first, shipfag fic second. Roarke would've been better with Josho, I swear.
>>
I'm kind of taken with the idea of Twilight's parents having a third kid after a while, any fics for that that isn't like that weird pregnancy fetish one.
>>
>>43501169
It's pretty good, but not outstanding. Skirts updated every day (like A Quiet Rune Scribe) with something worth reading (unlike A Quiet Rune Scribe) and the story earned itself a fanbase. It still has that fanbase. It was revelatory to me when /FSSBC/ tried to read it: All the oldfags said, "I feel so good re-reading this and remembering old times. I'm looking forward to when..." while all the newfags said, "What's all the excitement about? This is boring." That's exaggerated, but it's not far from the truth: Austraeoh's reputation rests a little on circlejerkery.

This is not Game of Thrones or Wheel of Time, let alone Lord of the Rings. Skirts' seat-of-the-pants writing strategy means the story develops chaotically. For a good, long while the story is [Adventure][Random]. The plot doesn't even really get started in the first book (though sometimes Skirts drops a hint that he later develops into an actual plot point). You have to wait until the second book to even find out what an Austraeoh is. (All the book titles are faux-Norse, by the way, hence the series' alternate title "Norsewords." There's an Austraeoh wiki that explains them.) Once the story gets going, it becomes pretty good. Do you like expansive, epic adventures? Give it a try. Do you prefer intricately crafted, tightly plotted stories? Don't bother.

It is a running joke to quote a post with ">anon, stopped reading there." because HiE fics are well understood to be near-universally garbage and anon fics have earned their place at the bottom of even that repulsive barrel.
The post complains about the entirely predictable pain of reading an anon fic was, even though it was nobody's decision to read such trash but his own.
Currently, I'm reading To Touch the Sun, one of the earlier suggested club fics, and while the author is unskilled, the story itself has been pleasant. Besides the nice feeling granted by simply reading a better story, it feels good to have someone demonstrate to me that my decisions have led to a better outcome by showing the alternative.

This fic was ok. A bit boring, the backing was a bit terse and stuttering, the characterization and character development wasn’t super deep or exceptionally structured, and there were some unsatisfying loose end plot points left at the end of the story. But for a feel good /sappy slice of life / tragic sad tug at your heartstrings fic it was decent. I’d rate it slightly below starscribes fics in terms of average general quality. I think the 3 people that do the bookclub would have gotten bored reading it.

well they're all still in the "idea i know want to write at some point" stage. i haven't written a word of any of them, and the extent of my planning ranges from "most of an outline" to "basically just a description" to "basically nothing at all." i still have a few ideas i think would be worth sharing.
>flitter and cloudchaser start foalsitting rumble for thunderlane
>over time, cloudchaser starts getting feelings for thunderlane
>flitter on the other hand, much to her own horror finds herself becoming attracted to rumble
this is pretty much what i meant when i said a lot of my ideas basically amounted to descriptions. i really like this setup, but i haven't put much thought into where the story should go from there.
>coco sometimes has dreams where she has sex with a foal
>one night, during one of these dreams, she's visited by princess luna
a similar case to the last one. i like the idea, but haven't fleshed it out very much. how does coco feel about these dreams? does her attraction to foals carry into the waking world, or is it purely relegated to dreams? how condemning/comforting should luna be to coco? there's a lot of ways i could take it, i just haven't decided on anything.
>during a mane 6 get together, fluttershy is compelled to confess to her friends that she's a foalphile, and her friends each react differently.
>applejack promptly excuses herself saying she needs time to think
>rarity tries to act courteous but is very obviously uncomfortable with the idea
>rainbow is also somewhat uncomfortable, but is mostly upset that her closest friend for most of her life kept something like this from her for so long.
>pinkie is immediately accepting and trusting of her friend, and is upset that her friends are so much less so
>and twilight is straight up having a panic attack
>after some brief arguing between pinkie, rarity, and rainbow, she teleports out of the scene, and the remaining four ponies all return to their own homes, and agree to reconvene with clearer heads
(1/3)
>>
>>43503713
>turns out, twilight teleported all the way to canterlot, and sets out to find minuette
>after finding her, twilight explains to her that her friend from ponyville, fluttershy, confessed to her that she's a foalphile, and that her doing that unearthed some dark memories she forgot she had
>memories of twilight and minuette's teacher at celestia's school for gifted unicorns regularly keeping them both after class and molesting them
>memories of what that did to her, of how miserable she really was during what should have been one of the most exciting times of her life, of hiding her pain from her brother, her parents, even princess celestia herself
>twilight apologizes for probably digging up those same memories in minuette, but explains that she desperately needs the advice of a pony who knows what she's been through; fluttershy is one of her closest friends but how can she remain friends with a pony who desires something so horrible?
>minuette explains that she had similar experiences to twilight after being victimized, but unlike twilight, she never repressed her memories. additionally, once she hit puberty, she noticed herself not only being attracted to colts her own age, but also colts and fillies significantly younger than her
>getting molested as a filly made her a foalphile
>twilight is shocked, but minuette continues explaining
>she quickly began equating herself to the pony who molested her, thinking of herself as barely better, if at all
>this self loathing only grew over time, but she kept it hidden, until it reached a tipping point
>at some point after twilight left for ponyville, but before twilight returned to apologize to her old canterlot friends for abandoning them, minuette caved and confessed to lemon hearts and twinkleshine
>to her shock, they were actually mostly okay with the news
>they told her that as long as she never actually harms a foal, she'd still be a good pony
>having two of her closest friends tell her this was a massive boon to minuette's mental health, and she explained to twilight that fluttershy's probably going through similar things to minuette, and that it'd help her a lot to know that she still has friends who care about her, even after learning the truth.
>twilight agrees that that makes sense, but still isn't sure she can go through with it
>minuette decides that she'll just go see fluttershy herself, and asks for twilight's permission to tell fluttershy what happened to them at celestia's school for gifted unicorns, which twilight obliges.
(2/3)
>>
>>43503714
>meanwhile, instead of returning to her cottage, fluttershy went to sweet apple acres to check in on applejack one-on-one after she's had time to think
>applejack makes fluttershy confirm that she never has, and never will touch a foal
>after she does, she tells fluttershy that they're no less friends than they were before, but also asks that fluttershy stay away from apple bloom, just to be safe
>fluttershy agrees to applejack's terms, hugs her, and thanks her
and that's as far as i've got. it's definitely the most complete of my ideas, but it's still not a full outline. the beginning of it is also extremely similar to https://www.fimfiction.net/story/211922/so-fluttershy-likes-screwing-animals-now but i swear, i had this idea before reading that fic.

This fic is the horse sketch meme, except it has two heads. The only parts of it worth reading are Twilight's two dates with Celestia, the first in "A Day Together" and the second in the final chapter.
Everything else is pretty terrible. On top of numerous homophonic errors, missing punctuation and barely functional prose, the fic also assaults you with fanfiction tier worldbuilding, especially tribalist, militaristic pegasi, which the author insists on spelling with two Is when he isn't flipping a coin on whether to capitalize "pegasus." There is one positive effect of having nearly every sentence be in the form "character verbed noun," though, and that is that the story moves along at a very brisk pace.
Unfortunately, all this movement doesn't really resolve anything. I wrote before that the main problem that puts Twilestia in a rank firmly below Tuna is the repetitive necessity of it to address and break down their existing relationship as teacher and student. That is, ostensibly, the central conflict of this story: Celestia trying to decide if she can or should overcome her perspective of Twilight as her subordinate. That never happens, the conclusion is only that Twilight has melted the ice around her heart, ridiculously formed by Luna's banishment. Oh, and Luna is pretty bad, too.
I would recommend reading only those two chapters from this fic. Within them, all of the problems above are either eliminated or greatly suppressed. There are a great deal of wonderful, cute, evocative scenes and excellent, descriptive imagery. They do adorable purple lesbian things together for hours, and it really is like reading an entirely different story.
>>
>>43503713
It's obvious you're a foalcon. Don't worry, so am I. I don't write it myself, though.

You should write these but put them under an alternate account. Separating some of your content, particularly content that not everyone approves of, is one of the approved reasons for having an alternate account.

>Flitter attracted to Rumble
This isn't a story yet, but you know that. If you figure out how the characters feel, I think you can work this out.
>Coco visited by Luna during a foalcon dream
Luna has seen it all, I'm sure. I don't know how she responds, but I doubt she's shocked. Coco is the real mystery. You already list the questions you need to answer here.
>Fluttershy, Twilight, Minuette
This is where your foalcon tendencies are most obvious. Your story is a morality tale about two types of foalcons: The evil kind who molest foals, and the good kind who don't. Consider:
>to her shock, they were actually mostly okay with the news
>they told her that as long as she never actually harms a foal, she'd still be a good pony
>applejack makes fluttershy confirm that she never has, and never will touch a foal
>after she does, she tells fluttershy that they're no less friends than they were before, but also asks that fluttershy stay away from apple bloom, just to be safe
In your story, everyone condemns the bad kind of foalcon, the kind who molested Twilight and Minuette, and supports the good kind who don't harm foals. Nobody in your story condemns foalcons just for being foalcons. But, as I'm sure you know, in real life people do exactly that.

If you want to tell a compelling story, then you need to make things tougher. You will need at least one character to reject Fluttershy and break off their friendship. Not because they were once molested or because they themselves are self-denying foalcons, but because they think foalcons are fundamentally evil ponies. Maybe their friendship recovers eventually, but it'll be slow. Your characters will need complicated feelings; they might feel bad both about remaining friends with Fluttershy and about breaking off a friendship. Fluttershy's (and Minuette's) own desires might not be harmless; maybe you as the author know that they'll never harm a foal, but do they know that? They are more complex characters if they're unsure whether they are dangerous. It would be especially intense if you could arrange for a secondary plot that causes Fluttershy to end up isolated and alone with a foal she finds attractive.

Overall, I think the idea has potential, and I think you should keep working on it.
>>
>>43503713
Well, if you're worried about the perception readers will have of you, the last one seems a bit too positive about the whole thing. The one with the foalsitting has great potential if you write it as pure angsty drama (smut optional) instead of whatever you're doing with the flutters one about acceptance or whatever, I'd totally read that shit.

hadn't considered that. there's still a chance i might decide to put them on my main one, but i think i'll more likely make an alt. thanks for the suggestion.
>Nobody in your story condemns foalcons just for being foalcons.
well, rarity and rainbow dash do, but i agree that i should put a lot more emphasis on it, especially with rainbow.
>If you want to tell a compelling story, then you need to make things tougher.
agree. i think the applejack stuff more complicated. i think i like the resolution, but it gets there way too fast. i'll probably need multiple moments where multiple mane 6 members try to contact her but having her avoid them, and also at least one full scene where she isn't sure whether she's able to remain friends with fluttershy or not. i think i'll also need to make it clear that while applejack and fluttershy do remain friends in the end, their friendship has been permanently altered. not necessarily ruined, or even tainted, but altered. things will never be the same as they were before. i'll also need to give pinkie pie more to do.
>Fluttershy's (and Minuette's) own desires might not be harmless; maybe you as the author know that they'll never harm a foal, but do they know that?
also very good point. i can imagine her starting the story confident in her ability to control her urges, but having that confidence eroded by her interactions with her friends. rarity's decaying facade, of friendliness slowly giving way to how she really feels, applejack's avoidance of all of her friends over the situation, twilight's genuine fear of fluttershy, rainbow's overt repulsion, and even pinkie's growing fear that their friend group might actually fall apart over this, all combining to make fluttershy wonder if maybe she really is dangerous, maybe it really is only a matter of time before she snaps and rapes some poor foal. i don't know if i'll ultimately decide to go that far with it, but i'll probably at the very least touch on it.
>Overall, I think the idea has potential, and I think you should keep working on it.
thanks, i will.
>>43503930
>Well, if you're worried about the perception readers will have of you, the last one seems a bit too positive about the whole thing.
if you're suggesting portraying fluttershy in a more negative light, that goes against the whole idea of the story. if you just mean "this story is way too kind to fluttershy, she needs to suffer more so it doesn't just look like a circlejerk." then i agree.
>The one with the foalsitting has great potential if you write it as pure angsty drama (smut optional) instead of whatever you're doing with the flutters one about acceptance or whatever
it's all supposed to be angsty drama. pedophilia is the ultimate well of angsty drama, and it's almost entirely untapped. there's so much you can do with it other than using it as paint for the "this character is irredeemably evil" brush, but nobody does.

3/10. A journalist looking to blackmail Daring Do about her biggest secret confronts her in the Everfree. It's "Daring Doubt" but real. The fact that's the worst Daring Do episode does nothing to help the story's premise. Daring is actually evil and guilty of all her crimes, only neither the narrator nor journalist actually say what those crimes are. The only thing she's actually accused of is.. fraud? By writing a series of novels about fictional adventures that were never claimed to be real or even inspired by real events? What? It's implied there's worse things she's done by why imply it and not outright say it? It's supposed to be the core of the whole story.

The whole thing just feels weird, like it's set in an evil AU or something. There's a scene where he talks about Daring "revealing" her real self to Dash and... Dash was just okay with that I guess? On top of the OOC "evil" Daring, the journalist OC is also pretty insufferable. Overall just not an enjoyable story.

>non-antagonist character being a foalphile is a plotpoint
Depends on how the narrator is framing things. So long as it's not being portrayed positively or the narrator doesn't spend an inordinate amount of time talking about it, you should be fine. The more you bring it into a story, though, the more narrowed the eyes get.

>>43503713
Never mind. Those aren't "plot points". Those are the entire premises to the stories. 100% people will think you're one step behind [Sex] [M].

The Fluttershy idea, in particular, strikes me as being very heavily pedo apologia. You use a canon character as the soapbox, use the "they were molested and that gave them the fetish" excuse, and have everyone accept the pedophile, when, in reality, everyone would be incredibly concerned about the events of Stare Master.

Honestly, I think the only way it works as non-apologia is by spinning it as a dark comedy, culminating in some kind of over-the-top punchline like Celestia only founded her school to groom unicorn fillies.

>Those aren't "plot points". Those are the entire premises to the stories.
i will concede i misspoke.
>The Fluttershy idea, in particular, strikes me as being very heavily pedo apologia.
from a certain point of view i suppose it is. fluttershy being sympathetic is essential for the story to work, and to a lot of people, that alone would be a bridge too far, and would qualify as apologia no matter what. i'd like for it to not feel preachy, but i think the only way for that to work is for the fic to be written as if the reader is 100% fine with the idea of a sympathetic foalphile, even though that likely won't be the case for most people. i might have have to add something like
>cw: this fic features foalphilic characters portrayed in a sympathetic light
to the description
>You use a canon character as the soapbox
if any part of the fic comes of as a soapbox i will have failed as an author. the point of the fic won't be to convince the reader that pedophiles are people too, it will be to tell a story about a pedophile, while not demonizing her. i don't want everyone to be chill with fluttershy immediately, otherwise there'd be no point at all, but i also want fluttershy to have a happy ending. one thing i am worried about is portraying fluttershy (and minuette) as a mary sue. she kind of has to be the perfect innocent foalphile, or she's an irredeemable monster, but if she's never really struggled with her attraction, or lapsed even a little, i fear she'd seem too perfect. and in this fic's case, i have not one, but two characters i need to tow that line with.
>use the "they were molested and that gave them the fetish" excuse,
minuette becoming a foalphile after being molested isn't supposed to excuse anything or make her foalphilia "more acceptable." it serves multiple important roles in the story. twilight originally seeks out minuette because she needs to talk to someone she knows and trusts who can relate to her very specific experience of being molested as a foal, but she finds someone who can not only relate to her, but fluttershy as well, and importantly, someone she can see both herself anf fluttershy in. if minuette wasn't a molestation victim twilight would have no reason to want to talk to her, and if she wasn't a foalphile, she wouldn't be able offer an explanation of what fluttershy may be going through, and would have no reason to want to talk to fluttershy. unlike fluttershy, who may or may not be a foalphile because she was molested as a filly, it doesn't really matter, minuette being a foalphile because she was molested as a filly is actually very plot important.
>everyone would be incredibly concerned about the events of Stare Master.
stare master would definitely have to get brought up. i'm not sure in what context exactly, but it would have to be brought up.

Have you ever read Lolita? It's the only good book I know of where pedophilia is a major plot point. Really the question posed by the book is, "What kind of fucked-up person would you have to be to think it was okay to molest a girl?" It doesn't try to be sympathetic; the narrator, Humbert, is a horrible person. But what makes the book successful is that he's not a horrible person because he's a pedophile. No, he's a horrible person because he only cares about himself. Nobody else matters to him. Initially, Lolita only matters to him because she gratifies his sexual urges. By the end of the book, he is in love with her, but to him, that means she should want to live and have sex with him for the rest of their lives; he still does not understand that she might not want that, and he certainly doesn't care.

If you want Pedoshy to be sympathetic, then you need to accomplish the opposite. You need to portray her as actually caring about the needs of others. Not just saying that she cares, but actually doing things that show she cares. This might sound like a pretty easy ask for Fluttershy, since we already know how much she loves caring for animals. But that's not enough; you'll need to find a way to show her also caring, really caring, for foals.

I think that it will be difficult to tell your story without making it an apology for pedophilia. But Lolita shows that it's possible to tell a genuinely good and compelling story about pedophilia without descending into a hysterical screed.

Come to think of it, it might help to drop the subplot about Twilight and Minuette. The more foalphilia there is in your story, the more it sounds like you are normalizing it. But you don't want it to come across as normal. If it's normal, then there's no conflict. "Oh, Fluttershy's a foalphile? Her too? Third one this week. Yeah. Roseluck and Davenport just came out as foalphiles. You could almost say that nowadays, all the cool kids are foalphiles." I think this removes some of the tension from Fluttershy's situation and actually undermines your story. I would recommend a different approach: Twilight wasn't molested, but she did have an experience that made her feel uncomfortable. The adult never did or said anything that she's sure was wrong, but she felt odd about it and didn't like it. (I once had a high school English teacher who spoke openly about falling in love with her students. Including me. And no, I was not about to bang an obese old lady.) That preserves the idea of Twilight having had a bad experience, but it makes both us and her doubt her feelings; is she right to be upset when nothing really happened? I think your story is better off with that kind of ambiguity.

Funny, I figured they had specifically prompted for that style as a way to make it less obvious that it's AI. LLMs do like their micro-paragraphs, but usually not in such quantity. But I'm up to chapter 11 now (it's almost a tolerable fic, except that it's been going nowhere for 50k words, and if it does go somewhere I suspect it'll be depressing) and a lot of scenes and chapters end in a way that seems very AI.

I also looked at some of the author's other stuff, like https://www.fimfiction.net/story/569712/m-a-n-e-s, which is just wall-to-wall "A did B, X Y-ing Z-ily"
>>
>>43505633
The "style" has emerged relatively recently (I think mostly in ChatGPT? Not 100% sure) and is a bit of a departure from how most LLMs used to write, but it's not entirely new either. It reminds me of the telltale sign of greentexts written by Grok or Deepseek (remember when that was a thing early last year?), where they try too hard to make EVERY single line a witty zinger.
>>
>>43505524
I'd certainly bring it to mods' attention if you legitimately believe AI was involved in the writing and you're able to provide enough damning examples.
>>
>>43505649
>they try too hard to make EVERY single line a witty zinger
This is a universal problem with AI writing that's been unfixed for at least a year and a half now. Absolutely everything is designed to make you go "whoa :O". You even see it in technical writing like docs/comments for code. Here's a post talking about the same issue in R1, which was released January of last year:
https://nostalgebraist.tumblr.com/post/778041178124926976/hydrogen-jukeboxes

This is basically what I mean by chapter endings that sound like AI. For example:
>She would write something better someday.
>Not because she needed Princess Celestia to notice.
>Twilight knew better than that.
>She was simply curious.
>That was all.
>Across the room, the eighty-three-page manuscript rested beneath the amber lamp.
>Twilight had not yet learned how many different things curiosity could be made to mean.
>>
>>43505726
I can write up a multi-paragraph report citing multiple discrepancies from a story where the only possible non-AI explanation would be some nonsense like "the author must've schizophrenically switched back and forth between different writing programs AND writing styles based solely upon which character is talking, resulting in constantly flip-flopping formatting/punctuation and level of grammar competency all throughout a single chapter", but the accused will respond to the mod handling the report with "oh my writing just kind of sounds like ai because I use it alot and it rubbed off on me thats all, i totally didn't upload an rp log between me and a chatbot or anything haha *makes another blogpost about AI being awesome*" and have absolutely no rebuttal to the part about the really blatant differences in formatting or whatever, and the mod will just go "well even though you've already had stories taken down for being AI-generated before and admitted to it afterwards, I guess you must be telling the truth this time, your story is reinstated have a nice day :D"

I only ever bother writing reports when:
>it's extremely blatantly obvious (like an esl retarded child making bad typos followed up by perfect ChatGPT grammar and leaving the asterisks in)
>other people are taking notice, so my report won't be the only one
and/or
>someone already accused it of being slop and the author is acting all indignant/other commenters are dogpiling the guy calling it out
The rest just go on my report backlog bookshelf. One day, maybe the moderation around AI will get more consistent, and then I can go back and report them knowing I won't be wasting my time.

6.5/10. Daring Do tries to get a time travel artifact, but a giant snake keeps stopping her. Surprisingly, no vore ensues. A very "fluffy" oneshot. I'd even go as far to call it a textbook oneshot, in that it was easy to read, quick, entertaining--but, like most oneshots, will ultimately be quickly forgotten as there wasn't anything about it that particularly stood out. It was just a nice little adventure fic that burned a couple minutes. The time travel didn't even get clusterfucky like it typically does.

Kek. Enjoy the autodownvotes and pedo branding.

>i also want fluttershy to have a happy ending
For a serious story, I just don't see this happening without it getting into weird "acceptance" apologia. Stare Master, in particular, completely screws it. AJ and Rarity would almost certainly, at the very least, break off their friendship with Fluttershy. She's a pedophile who agreed to babysit their younger sisters for a sleepover. If she was really an "ethical" pedophile, she would have declined the offer just to avoid any potential improprieties from happening.

The simple reality is that pedophilia is heavily stigmatized and pedos are social pariahs. They don't get happy endings. Anything less than that will make readers very skeptical of your motives.

>Why does AI use such stiff, almost formal wording?
Because despite what people ignorant on the topic will tell you, the reason modern AI came to be is very simple: companies had a fuckton of internal documentation and it's a pain in the ass to sort through it. AI was created to be a middleman that gets you the specific stuff you need, and as a way to analyse the boatloads of data companies have. It was a matter of having a bloated amount of data and needing something to do with it. The US government had been internally developing rudimentary forms of this kind of AI since at minimum Obama 1, possibly since Bush if you extend the definition of what counts. ChatGPT as a publicly available thing was an accident in the grand scheme of things. The bulk of what makes up LLMs and what they were fundamentally created to manage is the absurd amount of technical documentation and corporate drivel that exists internally to the tech world. For as much as you feed it prose and poetry and narrative, it's a tool that's primarily raised on formal documents and primarily exists to assist with those.

There is so much wrong here that I can't address it all without an essay longer than A Quiet Rune Scribe.

Language models have existed for a very long time. The game of Scrabble uses a primitive language model based on letter frequencies to assign points to letters. It's a cross between statistics and linguistics and is going to entertain keep academics busy pretty much forever.

Eventually these models became capable enough that you could do useful things with them. Semantic searching is the biggest practical application. Marketers want sentiment classification so that they know what consumers think of their products. Document summarization is useful for the reasons you describe, but it's hard for machines, and even today, LLMs sometimes fail at it.

That's where it comes from: Academics doing research and companies trying to make profit.

Modern agentic AI is something else entirely. That, as far as I can tell, has the goal of creating an artificial superintelligence. Because once that happens, we're reduced to pets, and if we're all the equivalent of cats and dogs, then furries aren't weird anymore.
>>
>>43509500
I, for one, would welcome a Skynet that only went after furries.

I hated that one Daring fic so much I downvoted it and am now going on a oneshot spree to try and wash the bad taste from my mouth.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/358556/between-a-rock-and-a-sad-place

8/10. Daring Do gets trapped in some ruins and has a mid-life crisis. A very nice little oneshot written by friend of the thread Zaid. I particularly liked the mid-life crisis angle. Feels like very few non-immortality fics deal with the characters aging and the ramifications of getting older. It does feel a little navel-gazy but I can't complain about that too much given the relative freshness of the concept. Though that might just be me not encountering it much. Seems like good Dash fodder. Overall, a very pleasant oneshot.

7.5/10. "Who Wants to Live Forever?" where Ahuizotl eulogizes the death of his long-time adversary. Reminded me a lot of Locomotive Breath, not because of the plot, but because of the similarly structured twist ending where the author carefully avoids certain words. It's a very nice curveball twist, and I also like Ahuizotl's casual "eh, I don't got anything better to do, might as well ham it up as a pulp villain for a few decades" personality, but like the above, it does feel a little navel-gazy at times.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/575238/we-die-twice

8.3/10. Daring, Flurry, and a batpony go on an expedition to the frozen north to unlock the secrets of an ancient batpony enclave town. Probably the best portrayal of Flurry I've seen in a fic so far. She's always either fucked up, a bitch, or way too mature for her age. Here, she actually feels like a fifteen year old. This one also has a twist ending, but it's more of a "death by a thousand foreshadowing cuts" kind of thing where it feels obvious by the end what the twist is.

That twist is the best part of the story, as it injects some well-timed sadness to an adventure plot that was relatively lacking on the excitement. The twist does create a plot hole Why does Luna even need to bother with a disguise? and the strange POV shift for the ending scene adds some structural awkwardness to the plot, but I still really liked it. What can I say, I'm a sucker for immortals mourning the long forgotten dead.

>Implying Amish people could be this passionate
This is mostly an exaggerated stereotype and that extends to other Protestants, mainly Calvinists, and also the Victorians. It existed in controlled formal social settings and relationships but there was a lot of more animalistic degenerate stuff and intense emotionality outside of that context and in more personal social environments. But that wasn’t the stuff these people valued so it mostly wasn’t written about or well recorded. This attitude towards sex also emerged as The church and Christian’s started caring more about sex as it became more concerned about controlling people’s behavior due various causes over the early modern period.

But anyways, have you ever seen videos of those rock crusher machines? Yeah at the pie family homestead it’s like that but it’s two rock farmers instead of metal plates.

Fun fact: I've been going through all the Daring fics on Fimfiction and it's been seven years since there's been a (regular) vorefic. Last one was Daring Do and The Staff of Circe, posted on Aug 18, 2019. I guess vorefags got their fill of Daring.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/582858/distant-thunder

5/10. Flaming homos Braeburn and Caramel wake up in a large storm. Gay supernatural domestic violence ensues. The ambience and setting of this fic are fantastic. Pretty much everything else isn't. In addition to the completely unnecessary supergayness that saturates it, it suffers that horror oneshot problem of not know what the fuck is going on. There's something in the storm and it... mind controls people to attack their family before forcing them to flee outside? What? What are the pegasi doing? Why would they even make a "storm of the century"? That seems like a really bad idea to begin with. There's apparently some allegorical bullshit going on but I don't care enough to figure out what it means.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/574665/kill-the-noise

7/5/10. Daring and her porter try to get an artifact from a temple where any noise or magic triggers traps. A very unique premise that makes for a nice read. Only real complaints is the plot itself is a rather standard Daring adventure thing and the villain's pretty basic.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/561315/body-of-lies

5/10. Daring bypasses the Sphinx's riddle and learns why that's a bad idea. A story strangled by its placement in the 1k contest, a fate nearly all those contest fics share. It's too short and too speedy to really savor the body horror aspect or the TF ending. Anthropomorphic is a far superior Daring body horror fic.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/561018/daring-dark

6.5/10. Daring is old and has dementia. It's a short, sad little thing about that fairly scary disease and old age and all that. Not really much else to say. Probably would have worked a lot better if the dementia reveal had been at the end as a twist, but alas, the 1k contest strikes again.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/499942/a-daring-turnabout

2.5/10. Daring, Ahuizotl, and Caballeron make a movie. It's a lolsorandumb comedy fic and I'm impressed that all these years later I still find that kind of comedy completely terrible and unfunny. I didn't even smile once while reading it. I think it's the "dumb" part. Just makes everyone out of character and that ruins everything for me.

I needed some trash this morning so I started reading Duelists of the Autumn Crown. Although I am still rather early on, I wanted to share my thoughts. Upfront, I can confidently say It is not a great story. There are obvious editing failures in the very first chapter. While I would not be ashamed of having wrote it myself, I would not dare recommend it to someone who is not a desperate fan of both Yu-Gi-Oh and Friendship is Magic. You have plenty of official content from both franchises to exhaust before even thinking of this. I bet you haven't read Yu-Gi-Oh R.

The plot of Duelists of the Autumn Crown is slightly better than what I would expect from a Yu-Gi-Oh crossover. The key idea is that everyone used to enjoy the game as a way to express yourself and deepen friendships, but Sunset morphed it into just being about winning. That feels like something that actually was a Yu-Gi-Oh anime plot but I cannot think of which one. This, of course, leads to a tournament arc to get the Autumn Crown.

As for the Yu-Gi-Oh itself, it is clear that some thought has gone into the decks. Twilight runs an entirely OC deck, but everyone else is on real decks that fit their theme very well. Giving Rarity Crystal Beasts was a stoke of genius. The general power level feels late GX or early 5Ds, but Rainbow Dash is supposedly on UA (a 2015 deck) so that remains to be seen. My one massive problem with the fic so far is the duels. Duels are a very visual thing. At random, I cracked open a chapter of the manga to make this point. I got Duel 122, which is Mako VS Joey in Battle City. Even if you read none of the speech bubbles, you can see the game state. This includes Joey's hand, which is all cards that are familiar to the reader by now. I have never been able to say the same for Duelists of the Autumn Crown. I rarely have any idea what cards Twilight has or what they do. All of their names are very similar as well. Even if I know that Twilight is holding Harmony Spirit Magnanimity in her hand, you cannot bet on me to remember how it is different from Harmony Spirit Magia. In an anime or manga, I would see the difference.

All in all, it's the best looking complete and not tiny Yu-Gi-Oh fic that I have ever seen from any franchise. I still expect it to suck.
>>
>>43513574
Alright. I'll read it.

I don't think they were dating until Twi has finished the Celestia school for gifted unicorns, but I am not 100% sure on that since I think it may have had happen in one of the comic side series.
Given that A Canterlot Wedding happen at the end of the season 2, and I would like to think that pre-season 1 Twilight, while aloof, would still care enough about her family to meet up with them at least few times a year (like for birthdays and holidays celebrations), so in my show head-canon Celestia may had pulled some stings to ensure Shining and Cadance get hitched some time right after defeat of NMM and return of Luna (since she had pre-knowledge of Crystal empire returning and being put under Cadance ruler-ship and would also somehow get whatever the hell is going on with Twi magical bloodline into future Crystal ponies royal family by playing Crusaders Kings with pony lives).

You wanted a good ship, while saying you wanted a crack ship. You described a functional romance story, while the point of a crack shipfic is that it does not function. You already know that putting Shiny together with Luna isn't a reasonable proposition, and the only way an author writing such a fic wouldn't know that as well is if they don't know the characters.
You can get a much better outcome if you just read a good shipfic, and there are lots of those. For example, https://www.fimfiction.net/story/247622/twilight-good-night
It should not be considered merely unlucky that fics with inferior ingredients end up unpalatable. The whole concept of cooking up a story from unusual pieces is supposed to be based on the idea of variety breeding creativity, but throwing shit at the wall as stupid as ShinyxLuna with the justification "why not" is equivalent to stirring toothpaste into orange juice and being surprised that it tastes like toothpaste and orange juice. It's not experimentation. The result is entirely predictable, and this applies to any venture where the goal is to do something different for the sole sake of it being different.

the point if a crackship is that it's a ship between two characters with little to no interactions in the source material. whether or not their relationship could function if they did get together has zero bearing on whether a ship is a crackship or not.

>>
>>43514030
>You wanted a good ship, while saying you wanted a crack ship.
man, I just wanted a decent story that also has a bit of wacky premise, the quality of the story doesn't need to be amazing, it just need to not be complete dogshit. This can be done, and I know it on basis I had read such stories before (like Trixie x Dashie healing story, or Blueblood going full taliban in Saddle Arabia), also the sotry isnt flowing in a way that just end with "and the stuff just happens I guess because otherwise the story doesn't work". What I really didn't want is to spend time reading the fetishes that that I dislike but the written did and had sneak them in without telegraphing it either in the description or in the previous chapters (like the surprise Futa Chrysalis).

Each chapter would have one or two different POV, so the story would cover how each mane6 makes their own interpretations from how they react to each other.

A crackship is exactly the opposite of what you described. A story shipping Fashion Plate and Trenderhoof would be passed over as one of the most mundane possible ships, and they've never interacted. Meanwhile the obviousness of Ahuizotl x Cherry Berry as a crack ship takes no input from the fact that they've never interacted.

What you described doesn't really sound like that decent of a story until you replace Shiny with OC guard, though. And it's not a bit of a wacky premise, it's actually crazy. Specifically, the reason why it's a crack ship, the big pink alicorn in the room, automatically prevents it from being any good. There are a good number of Luna x some nondescript male guard fics that are not terrible, just because the author wanted to write some straight sex. One that steps a bit above them is https://www.fimfiction.net/story/463022/mooning-magnus
You might notice that it is a bit of wacky premise largely because the ship isn't a crack ship: Flash Magnus is from Luna's time, and the basis of the story is that and other commonalities they already share.

>using OC
Meh, the story may as well get Luna hitched with some batpony guard since it would be missing all the potential chemistry
>the big pink alicorn in the room, automatically prevents it
There is simple solution to that, tag:AU, "The Crystal Empire returned 10 years before Luna returned and Cadance (also aged up 10 years+) is now a very happy baroness ruling over the land", that leaves us as story with 0 connection between her and Shiny.
Now, why I would like the to read Luna x Shiny? Well, the potential I see here is from the fact that SA is the Celestia golden boy, an obviously very social and a hand-in-glove pony version of a quarterback of the royal guard player. Than you have Luna who is someone very reluctant to socialize with others due the whole 1000 years difference and the fact her return debut to modern ponies was the failed attempt at taking over Equestria.
Now, lets take a step back and have a look at the meta projections on what other ponies they remind them of, from Shiny perspective, she is almost a shoe-in for Twilight, a pony with tons ow magical power and lots of obscure knowledge (due to knowing shit from last millennia) yet has lots of internal and external mental/emotional holds up from making friends. For Luna she would look at Shinning Armor and see a white pony, with head on his shoulders, being super social and friendly with everyone around him, with the shield as cutie mark, I would imagine he would project the very protective act towards all his guards and citizens around. So this would in a way make it easier to project the whole Celestia protectiveness without having to deal with the whole "I was imprison on the moon by this pony" hangup with Shinning.
tldr: there is an interesting foot-in-the-door fun idea between the two ponies that are forced to work with one another, project each others siblings as a initial personality layer, and than use that as grounds to expand the budding relationship into romance and lewds.

I mean, I just don't think they're horses in that way. They're similar to people in the sense that they seem to be able to get turned on at any given time and don't have periods where they're extra horny or anything.
Basically anything you do with estrus is going to need to have them acting OOC, and you aren't giving it an external basis so it doesn't work in-universe in the same way that attaching it to a curse or love poison or something does. At the same time, if you actually play it straight then you have to address questions like why is rara getting worked up about meeting a stallion before a gala. Is she in heat then? Then it's super mild. Is that meant to be baseline? Then you've made hentai beasts that start at human horniness and ramp up. And there's no evidence of it in their society, so you have to invent all the things to accommodate it, at which point you're working with a real AU.

Basically, using horses as an excuse is basically writing EqG but instead of cartoon teenagers they're sexhorses.

5/10. Twilight readies to help Luna's new student with the secret evil dark magic ritual the alicorns do once a year. An okay entry in the "Equestria's dark secret" horror genre. The concept of teleporting to an AU to kidnap a version of yourself to ritualistically sacrifice and cannibalize in a dark magic thing is interesting. I feel like the "dark secret" element is spoiled by Twilight getting all bitter and angry. Hard to try and spin it as the canon Equestria when she's pissed at Celestia and Luna. I also feel like the author just brushes past the whole reason this whole thing is happening. There's an implied cabin the woods thing going on, but it's not really brought up. The mutliverse stuff also begs the question of how many Equestrias are doing this. Are there like a billion hopping around stealing each other's ponies for the sacrifices?

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/469877/the-gate

3/10. Daring chases down an artifact and ends up imprisoned with a pony-eating monster. Perhaps the most stereotypical horror oneshot possible, right down to the "it was all just a dream" look in the bathroom mirror jumpscare twist ending. Whole thing relies on, frankly, a fetishistic amount of gore to drive the horror. The narrator really goes off on 500+ word paragraphs talking about heads getting ripped off and eaten, etc. Made worse by none of the victims even getting names. Utterly meaningless redshirts meant to drive up the tension for when Daring might bite it.

It really feels like a gore fetish as nothing else gets attention. The monster isn't fleshed out at all. The cultists/mercenaries/whatever aren't fleshed out at all. The artifact Daring's after isn't even tied into the monster plot at all like it's supposed to be in a regular Daring plot. It's just gore, gore, gore. To make it worse, it's supposed to be a sequel to Magic, but I have no idea how the stories are connected. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Ethically grooming an alicorn, in
>/FSBC/

I am greatly impressed. Is this fic pretentious? Well, yeah, it kind of is. This is a story that
deliberately sets up an informal-seeming scene and makes a feint *at the reader* by going for THE Blade Runner reference just to slam you with 1 Corinthians 13. To be fair, that is excellent and the impact of the scene was worth everything… buuut tricks like that are destined to go over some readers’ heads, which is the definition of pretentiousness.

Even so, the author seems to be really good, and it shows in every scene. He has a great grasp on prose—though that does, ironically, make the few blatant typos look really bad—and he can sell you these characterizations of the Princesses well enough to make them seem like natural extensions of canon. I love the Inner Courts of Tia&Luna. I love how he characterized them through those, and I love that he wasn’t afraid to be a bit bold—with Luna, especially. At the same time, I’m glad that the author dodged the all-too-common pitfall of including more sex to pretend that his fic is mature. In general, I find myself agreeing with 95% of worldbuilding decisions in this fic. Much of the remaining 5% is the offhand mention of estrus—we didn’t need that.

But before everything else, this fic tries to be a sort of study of the alicorn mind of the Princesses. Mainly Celestia, and specifically with regard to the potential of TwiLestia. I enjoy the relationship the two Royal Sisters have here, and I also liked reading how the Princess got where she is now and what decisions she had to make and what changes to undergo along the way. The sense of their agelessness is conveyed really well, and the core dilemma is laid out in very clear terms. This is probably *the* definite TwiLestia fic in terms of addressing the things that need to be addressed before getting into it. The story is clearly written by a well-read author, one who expects the reader to have some base level of (non-fic) culture awareness. This is good; I’d like more writers to write their stories like that. There isn’t much I can criticize here. I’ve been loving the story so far despite how little action it has, and I’m really looking forward to reading more of it. It’s not really about the “what”; it’s the “how”. It’d be extremely irregular given the story so far if Twi didn’t turn out ageless or if their relationship stayed at just friends by the story’s finale.
So far, the best part of the story has been, imo, the boasts of the three alicorns, but the characterizations and well-thought-out inner thoughts are what make the story good. This has a solid claim for the title of the best bookclub fic of 2026, and unless everyone hates it, I’d like to throw more of this author’s work into the queue. Next week, we finish this and vote.

Side note, I find it very funny how extremely different this is from our last fic. They're almost like the two polar opposites of fics that are good and can still be called "pony".

Not at all. Nobody says bad things about Luna. The Reddit guys think that Luna on Max is an amazing model but I think they're downright wrong. Everyone else, myself included, says that Luna is an amazing cheap model. If something requires no intelligence at all, you can throw Luna at it and it will do a great job of it. It does all of my Jira work for me and all of the "pull the pertinent bits of these logs or infrastructure-as-code files". You can work Luna hard all day and spend under $10 even on API prices. I know guys who take the "Sol plans, Luna implements" approach but I would rather just have Sol do all of that.

If you think in Claude terms, Luna is the price of Haiku with brains of an older Opus. Luna is why you never need Sonnet any more.

The bad GPT 5.6 model is Terra. It is always better to have Luna on a very high setting or Sol on a very low setting. There is simply no place for Terra.

I haven't made my mind up about Astra yet other than "holy fuck, it's expensive".

I come in expecting straightforward TwiLesta, and left with something heavy on character and internal monologues and introspective presented in very unique fashion, so this has pleasantly exceeded my expectations. The story has a lot of good work put into it on crafting a picture of Celestia's mental state and like you said, addressing every that needs it beforehand. I don't mind the set-up is in purpose of something, and the character work so far is really engaging. The author is well-read and it definitely shows.
>I love the Inner Courts of Tia&Luna.
Oh yeah, their parts are really good. It feels the author took the idea of a character having a "vs self" conflict and expanded it into something more.
>he can sell you these characterizations of the Princesses well enough to make them seem like natural extensions of canon
The dialogue between Celestia and Luna is really well done. I also really appreciated the chapter early on that focused on how Cadance coped. Seriously, even though it isn't the focus, this fic has one of my favorite depictions of Cadance. It goes above to being an interesting character study rather than just romance.
>It’d be extremely irregular given the story so far if Twi didn’t turn out ageless or if their relationship stayed at just friends by the story’s finale.
I'm still holding my full thoughts so see how the full romance pans before making any final judgements, but this has built a lot of confidence so far.
So yeah, came for the romance, stayed for the prose and character studying.

I don't care for the style at all, or the clipped and cryptic speech. And typos just make me laugh in writing as pretentious as this. Also the formatting sucks on an e-reader. I just get maybe 2.5 paragraphs per page and the rest is like 35% blank space. It's a fun enough read though

Sulva is kino and Celestia's boast is kino. The other boasts sucked ass though, especially Cadance's
>Twilight says looking at Luna's private collection would be like "digging through the content's of the dead mare's pockets. Invasive."
This style leads to a lot of parts that actually just suck, like this quote. And a bunch of single lines that have 5 page breaks before and after yet have no impact whatsoever
>"The day I first met you, I thought you might be like him,"
>Celestia seeing a little filly and immediately comparing her to her dead husband

>the perfect ending spot
wew. As I said, I'm enjoying it, but it kinda seems like this fic was made in a way to be unappealing to me. And by 'made' I mean everything except for the actual plot. Meanwhile the plot is just some sort of Alicorn grooming cult that fractures your mind kek

>pleasantly exceeded my expectations
I'd say the same except that it'd be an understatement of the year. Okay, okay, I tend to praise the stories a little too much right after reading them, but unless it suddenly collapses in the second part or decides to do exceedingly awful dumb for 20k words, I can't see this not making it to my favorites.
>the character work so far is really engaging
I'm curious how he'll go about characterizing it from Twilight's side. We've seen a little bit of that already, but that seems to be (I think/hope) the next thing in this fic. I suppose we'll have some more traditional romance eventually (given the tag), but like you said, this is mostly a character study so far. An excellent one, however.
>one of my favorite depictions of Cadance
I like her sometimes when she's "the young alicorn", but that's more of a role than character. Yeah, this is one of the best Cadance characterizations I can think of.
>I'm still holding my full thoughts so (...)
This, basically. I will note that the semi-infrequent typos do look a little ridiculous in prose as good as this fic's. This kind of prose isn't something you write on accident. Would proofreading it one more time really be too much to ask for?
>one of these

Jokes aside, I suspected you wouldn't like it; I almost wanted to preemptively praise the fic *more* to make up for the almost inevitable slander that you'd post.
>e-reader
That is mildly annoying, yes.
>princest
I was about to comment on it before I ran out of space. It is a little curious that the fic is somewhat more restrained when it comes to sex than these modern literary types like to be (this is, in case it's not obvious, meant as a derogatory remark) and yet it has no problems with implied-or-at-least-possible princest and tackling a more serious "is it grooming" topic in this way.
>especially Cadance's
I think it was the best one, and more importantly, the way the story set it up with the other two was 10/10 writing that completely humbled me. It's the sort of thing where the skill level necessary to write this exposes the author as someone really good at this whole "writing characters" thing.
I'd go a step further and say that while it's obviously fun to read some competently written fun pony adventures, it's fics like this one that justify the existence of fanfiction and expose the "fics are all shlock" people as the clowns that they are.
>Wtf?
Yeah. She's... peculiar. But she saw her talent and already imagined her 15 years later, as immortals are wont to do. Very importantly, note that she only told her this now, as she's (possibly?) starting to indicate to Twi that she wants her that way, too.

>>43515128
I noticed Lunangrad was Tuna and I did manage to read about half of it, and it has been a ton of fun. My main complaints are that its formatting is abysmal on e-reader, and the occasional absurd typo. One word had a : in it... Also, Lunangrad is probably a lot darker than Ageless and this is used to justify an annoying pattern of "the princesses talk about something very interesting, Twilight is filled with dread, and the conversation fades to black" to maintain the mystery of what's going to happen at Lunangrad despite Twilight's ample opportunity to just talk it out with Luna.
Otherwise, Luna's characterization is very entertaining and Twilight's worldbuilding dreams, although so far seemingly pointless, have at least been neat to read.
Also, >his
Her writing is very good, and at first I was skeptical of a fic about Twilight comparing her to Job, but now I suspect the comparison might be loose enough for it to be good, too.

Ive just read a really shit 2014 fanfic, with a minotaur king that is a fuken Gary Stu that somehow is able to insult both Celestia and Twilight to their faces, strongly imply he set up a network of spies that monitor Equestia due to them "failing to take care of villain of the season in timely maner" and somehow was able to put them both under the thumb because "Equeestria imports tons of coal for their trains in exchange for wheat, therefore the minotaurs can shut down Equestia economy over night" .
And obviously the purple smart and sunbutt were holding an idiot ball and they just let the cunt just walk over them. The fic name is foreign complications by RainbowBob , I will not recommend reading it and I give it a -1 out of 100
As the fic was obviously by a fucking child since he ignored the fact that, A) the trains can be dragged by four earth ponies as per S1, Im sure its not as fast or economical as having it semi automated with coal trains being able to run almost 24/7 but its merely an incontinence for the ponies (and we seen Flim and Flam bros using magic to power their car/juice factory, therefore its even less of a problem than its presented). B) as far as we see, Equestria is occupying most of the continent, if push comes to shove there are Griffin and Zebra nations that they could expand their economy towards them, and even then, its the Minotaurs importing the food stuff, Celestia could go full "iron fist in a velvet glove" and just shut down all exports to the king fuckwit land and see how well the diet on coal will got for the minotaur for the next few years. And lastly, there is C) that by this time, Discord is semi domesticated by flutterbutter, all Celly has to do is point him in direction of their capital and say that he can have a whole week of a really fun vacation with addition of not being nagged by the royal sisters for abusing his chaos powers.

Fuck me, I'm so pissed I need some palate cleanser recommendation, something along the lines of EaW, or even fantasy battle-magi stuff, with some kind of Total Creature Death ending (or at the very least, with ponies having a pretty solid victory against the non-pony country).

I could have sworn I dropped this during my fimfic bingefest at the beginning of the year but after taking a peek to confirm I can't find the chapter that I remember bouncing off of. I must have just closed the tab by accident or something. That, or I gave up at the boasts. I read ahead a bit and think that I'll have some thoughts for next week if I have the time to read the rest.
Anyways, my thoughts on the first half are mostly that the writing is grating to me at times but the author is good enough to stay on the right side of the intrigue line, even if they're blatantly stringing me along at times. They seem to have an aversion to doing proper editing though, and that makes it annoying to determine what is intentional from what is just a mistake or poor writing.

The formatting sucks on the site too, they're doing the classic Ao3 mistake of adding extraneous empty paragraphs, along with intentional ones for scene breaks (which are miserable to parse in digital when all paragraphs have spacing already, unlike a print book).

It's the whole Internet that's dying. Literally every site is behind Cloudflare or the equivalent because of AI scrapers. At this point, I expect we're less than a year away from a bot swarm escaping from OpenAI or Anthropic and crashing the Internet in a way that no nuclear attack ever could.

There's actually an upside to Knighty doing registrations manually, which is that it keeps him engaged with the site. He's never actually going to update it, but he's pretending he will.

It hasn't even stopped the bots. I still get AI scammers constantly.

Speaking of scraping, do you guys know what's up with fimarchive?

I honestly thought DoWaS would last a lot longer in terms of building up the pony nation and warring with the Diamond Dogs. But like it pretty much goes from one successful raid to the end of existence pretty fast.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/463727/anthropomorphic

9.5/10. Daring, Lyra, and Bon Bon trek back to civilization after retrieving a TF artifact. One that isn't compatible with ponies. A certified body horror classic, it might just be the gold standard for that horror subgenre. Gross, painful, and pitiful, it checks off all the boxes you want in good body horror. Best of all, no one really acts stupid or the plot feels contrived to make the horror happen. I suppose Daring should have done more research on the TF artifact before just grabbing it, but I've yet to see a Daring fic where she's that cautious. Might just be Daring's worst death on Fimfic and I'm including the boiled alive in a vat of piss and cum snuffic in that.

>end

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/451717/scribble

6/10. The Apples find a strange, unknown, unmarked grave on their property and Daring's the only one who remembers who it is. A decent, sad "cosmic retcon" plot. Definitely seemed to have some shipping undertones between Braeburn and Daring, which isn't bad given he's always a flaming homo in fanfics. The combination is a little weird, though, and I struggled to really mentally stick the two of them together. I do wonder how the magic retconned Over a Barrel, given how important he is to that whole episode.

>review https://www.fimfiction.net/story/422660/hollow

3/10. Daring gets depressed while at a book signing. A full and complete wangst fic. Thoroughly unpleasant to read the author's melodramatic sadness forced onto Daring like she's a puppet. Oh boo hoo, I want to kill myself because I'm a wildly successful author who also goes on awesome and exciting adventures but I can't because I now wear a fedora instead of a pith hat and God isn't real. Fuck off. It's crazy. It's only 1.2k but reading it feels like a 8k fic.

A fellow anon recommended me "Synthetic Bottled Sunlight" https://www.fimfiction.net/story/303160/synthetic-bottled-sunlight a couple of weeks ago and only now I started reading it. So far I've read Chapters 1 through 7
The fic's style of text is very wonderful, I've been reading it non-stop for a while, but Celestia directly saying "capitalism le bad" just felt so blunt I had to stop.
How can a fic have such good prose just to waste it all on characters saying it the message out-loud? Will the rest of the fic disappoint me like that?

The Dragonriders of Pern series. They used to have forums, cons where they would have the most cringeworthy
hatching rituals imaginable, plus all the usual fan content. There is nothing left.
The author got old, passed the series to her unskilled son and he crashed it with no survivors.

Good. I read like all of them way back when because I was a basic bitch 12 year old that liked dragons and magic bond creatures, but they sucked because the stories were totally human driven. Yeah, it's not a loss. I don't think that fandom ever produced anything worthwhile. And, on reflection, I think that anything I might want out of a Pern re-read I can get from DoWaS.
I remember getting bored and skipping ahead for italics to see when the next dragon interaction was, and there were way too few of them as the series ended.
Anyway, you forgot they also had some AI-driven stories! And I'm pretty sure there were some dragons that started taking initiative towards the end of the series. Zaranth at the end and Canth during the Red Star missions came up in a search.

The site dying is independent of the fandom dying. Knightly turning off account creation unless he manually approves it is a significant factor in that. This could lead to the site slowing down tremendously even if it means no more bots, but it has nothing to do with the fandom possibly dying. The fandom is probably in one of its Silver Age's considering how popular G4 is in China and all these new conventions popping up. But the site used for fanfiction itself can still suffer because of other factors

This is an entirely irrelevant hypothetical. We've long passed the amount of time needed to check whether this is true. The knighty gated registration was implemented a long time ago and there are still lots of new authors, new fics and new authors posting new fics. They suck just as much as they used to, but they are being posted.
Fimfiction is only one component of the fandom as a whole, but it represents basically the entirety of the fanfiction component of the fandom, and >>43516033 was specifically about writing a fic, holding the sentiment that it would be pointless to write a fic addressed to the MLP fanfiction readers because fimfiction itself was about to become too small to consider worth posting to.

Was looking for something to read and this seemed promising. It's... not very pony. Starts off with an interesting premise, but as it rolls on into the sequels (that are really just acts in one large story) and more information is revealed, it just seems to throw too much of the established world away - or rather, override it - in favor of the author's own OP lore. The Mane six and the Elements? Sure, they're there, but have you heard about this super awesome martial arts technique that lets its practitioners defeat entire armies?
Not to mention the big fight scene that just has to happen because martial arts logic, when any halfway reasonable reading of the situation says the whole plot is moronic and criminal. Maybe try friendship first? Or writing a letter to Celestia? Oh no, can't do that.

And it's pretty well written too! I kind of prefer when an author uses an obvious alicorn self-insert and shitty writing so you know what you're getting into. Bailed out ten chapters into the third one.
