Like 10+ years ago there was a robot pony thread which went on for like 2-3 threads. One story was a robocop style thing where Anon died but his brain was transplanted into a new body: Rainbow Dash.
Besides the basic setup it was abandoned after a few tens of posts sadly.

Nah. I'm busy scraping the webarchive for lost greens.
I'm missing about ~3200 pastes which was ever posted here.
>>
>>43453982
Oh, dang. Let us know what you find, friend.
>>
>>43453990
It will be on ponebin.
So far out of 175 pastes 10 were found. It's not much, but it's something.
Some more could maybe be restored from desu, but that's a lot of manual work. And I doubt AI is good enough to detangle the mess from the early high traffic threads, and collect contents. Even when I try to do it manually it's hard or impossible. In the early days people just posted anonymously without even tagging the previous parts of their story or posting a pastebin link. They maybe posted it in the middle of the story, etc. Or in a separate post.
I posted a few times how to submit lost&found stuff, but only got two submission in 6 years, one with the correct format, the other is unusable.
I have a few more archives which could hold some pastes which is not on the site but none of them are processable (missing paste IDs).

I do have one, will post it when it's finalized. I now have 2986 paste IDs missing which can't be found on IA.
I'm currently trying to scrape all the userpages to discover even more, then do another round of paste scraping. This won't reduce the number of missing pastes (it will actually increase it...) but I will be able to potentially provide some metadata for some (author, title), and potentially recover some more which was never posted here (eg if something was split into chapters).
Scraping is complicated as pastebin changed format quite a few times and all needs custom code to process them. Plus IA limits you to one request every 3 sec, so a scraping run takes a day or two sometimes.
I don't want to publish it currently because the mirror/development DB is a mess (deduplication failed spectacularly and many pastes show up 4+ times with the same title and content, thanks windows/unix line endings and mojibake). Some pastes could be recovered from the site itself (eg some other Anon already archived it, there are quite a few cases of this, I know about 75 such cases).
I will make a submission page, so it will be easier to send stuff. It will definitely not be ready by next week, sorry.

Btw, the end result was 214 pastes recovered from the first run. Not all of them are pony related, but the majority is.

Since we're talking about lost pastes, I might as well share my small /lmt/ victory and say that a lost Moon Dancer green I was looking for, written by Slasher Science, was found recently. He apparently saw my one of my posts in the archive and decided "Yeah, I can repost that green."

I just noticed after 24+ hours of scraping and 16k downloaded pages that I fucked up the script. Web archive returns every url which starts with the query, not just exact matches. And in the list there was "anon" so every pastebin user starting with "anon" got downloaded. Okay, not that big of an issue. But there is an user named "e". So it started downloading every user starting with "e"... FML. I had to start it over.

Just don't do novel-length lines like they do in the anonstallion thread. Proper greentexts' lines are brief like: https://ponepaste.org/3646
>>
>>43461530
Make sure it's long enough to give the characters some depth so the readers can relate to them and care about them. And so you can fit in some descriptions.
It's a very freeform format with almost no strict rules. Lines are
>implied
and that's about it. What the other guy said is mostly true but you can add periods if you want to.

I wrote a couple of small greens a while back (March and April) that I thought were decent, but they got no (You)s.
Maybe one of you anons can take pity on me and tell me why they were shit:
https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/43173194/#43175861
https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/43107278/#43145960

Anyone else ITT got any greens, big or small, that they'd like to see get a second chance, a shot at redemption?
>>
>>43470537
Nothing necessarily bad about them, both are decent. >>43175861 was cute and humorous which fits for a prompt thread.
As for >>43145960 it wasn't really flutterrape, and I couldn't find it being posted in another thread as mentioned.
But really, there's no logic to how many (You)s you'll get, it's mostly down to a few anons feeling like reading or not. And don't take it personal, that's just the board being slow. Oh and keep in mind that if you write lewd stuff, there's a likelihood that the anons that DO read it, just bust a nut and move on without needing to comment on it.

As for my greens, I've only saved a few on ponepaste but I'm okay with them being looked over, they're pretty niche save for one in particular about a jaded twilight
>>
>>43470537
For the first, it's sad, but I believe that prompt threads are so fucked by the usual suspects that most gave up on them after a quick look.
>>
>>43461530
Writing green unironically makes you better at prose. You start to focus on the essential bullet points you want to hit in your writing, you get a better sense of tempo, your dialogue gets snappier since it looks dumb when your characters ramble for paragraphs, the only real problem is remembering how to not write in second person.
>>
>>43471201
>your dialogue gets snappier since it looks dumb when your characters ramble for paragraphs
I still feel like I can't write dialogue to save my life, I just can't imagine a conversation in a way "normal" people would talk so I only ever write about weird interactions between characters
>>
>>43471651
Usually better to have interesting dialogue than normal dialogue imo. Especially with pones.

The trick to good dialogue imo is to remember to put aside your goals as a writer and focus more on the individual goals of the characters. Pinkie in particular is tricky because the things that she finds important in any discussion are probably not going to be what others find important. The problem with "millennial/marvel dialogue" is mainly that every character sounds exactly the same. They don't bring unique perspectives to anything. This doesn't mean you spam meme phrases, you just try and keep the background and motivations of a character in mind. Well, loosely in mind, you also don't want to have your character remind everyone about their tragic backstory every time they open their mouth. Don't make it explicit, just have them lean slightly one way or another on different topics.

Rarity is a good example, she's an easy character to flanderize with "dress, gems, darling, oh no I stained my BLOU-OU-OUUUUSE" obvious types of lines that often feel kind of disconnected from the story. When she's written well she's written from the motivations behind all that. She always wants other ponies to be feeling their best. This is why she pairs well with Pinkie (who has a similar motivation, although wanting people to 'feel happy' isn't the same as 'feel your best') and doesn't pair very well with Rainbow (who is almost always feeling on top of the world). She's also got an interesting combination of traits in that she's always certain that she's right and wants to get her own way, while also preferring to solve problems via "low-status" maneuvering. Rarity vs. Blueblood is the ultimate example of this causing conflict, because whereas most low-status characters like Fluttershy would just tolerate his bullshit, and most confident characters like Rainbow would put their hoof down immediately, Rarity is stuck trying to solve a problem against somepony who is immune to all of her usual tactics. It's almost like a Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, where the problem could be solved instantly by either letting it go or addressing it directly, but unfortunately the protag is simultaneously petty and bound by social convention.

But I digress. Dialogue. If you think your dialogue is "weird" it might be because you're focusing too much on characters expositing the information they need in order for the story to progress. Write it so that they're following their own natural motivations to learn more, help others, etc. If you need to get Twilight involved in some hijinks, present an opportunity to learn something new. If you need Rainbow on board, present an opportunity for awesomeness. Don't have them talk unless they have something to say. And it might feel silly but it can help if (You) do voices. Applejack in particular, she's a bitch to write in text but if you say her lines out loud you can find that flow.
>>

It is done.
https://poneb.in/submit
https://poneb.in/missing-pastes

A low hanging fruit is pastes from The_Shermanator because https://poneb.in/u/NotSherm seems to have it, but it is not split by chapter like how it was originally posted.
There are a lot of authors on the missing list which don't seem to have any pony pastes. I have deleted quite a few (like half the list already...) but still there are more.
In the far future I plan to set up an LLM to go through all pastes and mark those that are most likely not pony related, automatically check desu if it was posted there, then delete dem after manual verification. But going through thousands of them will still be hell.
>>
>>43472336
Thanks for your work, Anon.
As I said, I'll start looking into it too.
I'll be busy this weekend, but will focus on it from Monday.
>>
>>43472347
Thank you in advance.

Oh I have another idea: I could add a link to paste IDs which were found in desu, so it makes it easier to track down.
This will require like 2 days worth of desu scraping. Plus writing the code. So I probably won't be able to finish it during the weekend.
I also skipped deduplicating paste versions to get this out quicker. There a ton of paste versions which only differ by for example the type of newline being used (windows/unix style) or a newline at the end, or character encoding issues. I found a few which have 4 versions when it should only have a single one. It's more complicated to get rid of these than it sounds.

I read a lot of "How to write" books when I first started writing greens. This is one of the best ones I ever came across, particularly for newer writers that are looking to avoid making mistakes that clearly mark them as an amateur, like, mixing up your tenses, using incorrect grammar in dialogue tags, or using the wrong version of words that sound similar---like there and their.
>That's there pen. Put it over their.

The book I have has the extra chapter at the end, written by E.B. White, which also has good advice in it. White was actually a student at Cornell and had attended some of Strunk's creative writing classes.

Ok, for the first one I got bored of the dialogue after the second post because it's too much and doesn't really go anywhere. The tone also felt off from the OP and personally I don't like the characterization of ponk, though I hate reading any M6 greens for that very reason.

For the second story I agree with >>43470640, it's not /fr/, so you won't get any (You)s because of that. Shoulda posted it in /aie/ and lurk'd moar.

I need to know, how some on you guys keep actually having a decent work ethic when writing your greens? I seem to be forever unable to finish one story because I keep trying to jump to the next.

I have way too many ideas about what to write. If only even a few of them were about what needs to happen next instead of being scattered scenes summertime in the future if the story or even totally unrelated.

*sometime in the future
Fuck autocorrect and phoneposting. But, gotta make do with what you have on the go.

I defer to Mandroid. I can't finish a green to save my life.

The trick is to write even when you don't want to. If I feel the kick of motivation come in after 10 minutes of writing, then I can write for an hour or two, or until I hit a mental roadblock. If after 10 or so minutes (of NO distractions btw, that includes time spent on your phone) I still don't feel like it, I let it be for the day. Just get yourself to try at least once per day, or whenever you have the time

Write those scenes, the worst you can do is to just keep them to yourself. You don't have to group them into the actual story, but you should write them to let your brain move on to something else.

are you natekiggers?

that could be. I personally like prompt threads, for the most part; some are definitely shit (like when the "Hi, Anon" meme got spammed.) but sometimes you get a lot of (You)s in prompt threads; the most successful green I ever did was written in one. another successful green, one I didn't write, was jaded actress twilight---i thought that one got a lot of (You)s as well, and that was a prompt thread green.
it really feels like a roll of the dice sometimes as to whether something you post gets read or not.

>it wasn't really flutterrape
You think so? It has Rarity raping Anon, she's just using a puppet to do it. I guess he does kind of consent to it after a while, but there are a lot of Flutterrape stories where that happens too, and it essentially stops being rape.
>t. has written and read a lot of Flutterrape

>jaded twilight
jaded actress twilight? I remember that thread
I wrote the prompt that spawned the green itt; I was so fucking happy someone wrote something based on it

Don't make her say it.

No. Why would I?

That does not sound like Flutterrape at all. What are you reading?

Hi Anon is kino.

I'd love to write just those scenes, but they would make almost no sense and have no emotion in them.
I'll just have to tough it out and get to writing when I get home and have time. Cons are fun but time consuming.
