Have you ever played this? Made a character? Tell me about them!
Anyone got a trove for it?
>>
>>43556565
Are they releasing any new material? Feels like it’s been awhile.
>>
>>43556621
Last I heard Power Rangers is ending so Hasbro can focus on an actual Power Rangers x D&D system. I would assume that's the case for all of Renegade's Essence System games.
>>
>>43556565
what the fuck is that monster? the shadow one?
>>
>>43556630
I think it's just the shadow of a flying dragon.
>why does it have eye holes?
Sometimes the show did that, I think.

I've got the whole pdf on my hard drive. The E20 system is very solid for introducing young'ns to the concept of TTRPGs. Being able to play as a cute pone makes it fun, too. Taking Spirit of Generosity makes it easy for me to DM and help the tykes enjoy the experience, too.

Never played this one, but I always appreciated the glup shittos on the covers of the old Tales Of Equestria RPG instead of the Mane 6. Gets you into the mood of making a pone of your very own.
>>
Renegade is having a pretty big sale right now.
They're unfortunately sold out of the core rulebook, but you can get all the other books for really cheap.
The card game too.
>>
>>43556771
Holy shit, anon, thanks. I've only had the core book for a while and have been meaning to get the rest of them. This deal is pretty insane, when I added the seasons book to my cart I noticed it also threw in four of the expanded character journals for free. I think there's a chance this is them trying to dump the stock before they pull them or start making some newer stuff for gen6. gen5 was out for a year by the time this one came out so the fact they didn't already throw a bunch of phones and other nonsense into it is a good sign, though I don't know if hasbro would let them get away with ignoring a bunch of their new goals if they did something with it now.
>>
>>43557119
Immediate update, shipping was $39 dollars on a $35 dollar purchase. Kind of fucked but considering that still saves a lot from the sale I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet.
>>
>>43557119
Did it add the journals, or the pdf versions?
When I did my order, I noticed that they gave the PDF version of each book and card pack I got for free. But I don't think they gave me extra physical copies of the character journals. That'd be an insanely good deal!
>>43557125
Yeah, the shipping on my order was over $100, but I got a shit-ton of goods. Basically 2 of everything.

It does look like they may be moving away from MLP, unfortunately, and this may be to get the remaining stock gone.
I saw a news letter that they renewed their license with Hasbro, but didn't mention MLP. It could be that they just didn't mention it, but I'd think it's popular enough that they'd want to highlight any news about it.
>>
>>43557172
Wait, holy crap, I think they DID include 4 free physical journals!
That's freakin insane!
>>
I never got the appeal of TTRPG’s
Nopony has the time or will to organize for them anymore.
But somehow there’s still D&D fags, I don’t even know where to start with that game.
Judging by /tg/ it seems like you just are shit out of luck if you can’t find the right circlejerk
>>
>>43557172
Books cost a lot to ship due to the weight and I think Renegade just pushes the entire cost onto the customer. I just hope they are good at packaging and I don't get a bunch of damaged corners. Few years ago I got like six books from Chaosium and when the box showed up it was barely held together. They gave me some free stuff when I emailed them about it and I didn't request a return, I doubt Renegade will do anything about damaged product though
>>
>>43557197
If I remember right, the pacaging for my core rulebook and one other book was actually pretty solid.
That order showed up in perfect condition, so unless there has been a major downgrade in their shipping department, it'll probably be fine
>>
>>43556621
>>43556623
The 2nd edition of the GI Joe, Power Rangers, & Transformers are going to be using D&D 5.5. No clue on the MLP one, but Renegade Games renewed the license with Hasbro & hopefully the RPG isn't left behind for the other MLP games RG has to offer.

>>43556724
The Mane 6 are only on the core rulebook cover, the rest of the books have the pregen Renegade Six on them.
>>
>>43557230
It wouldn't be that easy to bring mlp into using d&d rules and if they did it would suck, 5.5 sucks in general so I really won't care enough to look into it if they make it.
>>
>>43557305
I mean as in the article didn't mention a 2nd edition for the RPG (or anymore content to get more races & such) being made or not.
>>
>>43557230
They never did make level 20 character sheets of these characters like they did for the other RPG books.
>>
>>43557408
I was saying that it makes sense not to move into 5.5 since they'd have to work out how combat and equipment works for the mlp setting. It was possible when they were using a system they made themselves but trying to change 5.5 would be too much work even with how watered down it is. I expect there to be no new content
>>
>>43556565
I'm not sure if even giving them under a timed link would be allowed outside of /tg/, let alone giving the instructions to the archives. Better to just ask in the share thread if you can't find it in the Docs.
>>
>>43558127
Lat time someone made a thread asking about them I posted a link to share and someone said they added them to iwiftp, but I just checked and they're still missing some of the books. It has the core, changeling campaign, and some of the smaller stuff but it's missing the Seasons and Canterlot Knights books.
>>
>>43557230
What does D&D 5.5 do different from this system? I've never bothered to look at it.
>>
>>43559037
I already hate d&d but it's really a lot of the same as 5e just even more watered down. Very different from how the Essence20 system the original hasbro games used so it wouldn't be easy to explain the differences without fully describing both systems
>>
>>43559037
Yeah, it would be easier to explain 5e to 5.5e than it would 5.5e to E20. The 1d6chan pages would do better than us fags here.

Well since level 20 means functional immortality & giving the PCs a title as an alicorn (and Gilly a cutie mark) would take agency from players if you are an artist with being as close to canon as you can be, I can see why RGS/Hasbro would choose not to give it to them.
>>
>>43561398
We never did get high level adventures to justify being that high.

Kind of strange that the crossover book for the Renegade series purposefully excluded the ponies.

Sorry to ask for spoonfeeding but what do I do with this code, is it part of a url for some site like mega or something? Why is there a space?

I remember being able to post full mega links here 10+ years ago, is that not the case any more?

Un-leetspeak the URL & add the TLD for the site before adding the code to it. This is sadly necessary now.

Looks like to get the 4 free character journals, you just gotta get a minimum of 2 other books. What's funny is that's actually still cheaper than buying the 4 journals by themselves at their sale price, and you get the other 2 books too, as well as PDF copies! (no PDF of the journals though, sadly)

Kinda wish I knew that before making my large order... I could have split it into 2 or 3 orders and got a stack of journals!
(though you gotta balance the shipping cost too).

Also, I thought I was getting some PDFs of the card packs I got, because free versions of them popped up in my cart, but apparently they just gave me extra card packs! Buying the base card pack gets you the "True Talents" and "Familiar Faces" packs for free!
>>
>>43565491
Scheming for the extra books would have been smart but I already owned a few of them and have no space or use for a dozen character journals
>>
>>43565747
Yeah, I was tempted to go back for some more, but I already spent a shit ton of money...
And I already have 7 journals coming.
I bought 3, not realizing they had already added 4 to my order for free ^^;

Also, I figured that if I really did ever need more, (not likely), it'd be cool to handcraft some custom journals with aesthetic that better matches the character.
>>
>>43565115
Are they really charging for those?

For the free character sheets?
No.
That's why it's calked a "free download" you dingle-butt.
>>
>>43566612
Well yeah for packets of printed papers. I would honestly prefer if it was just a pack of like a hundred of the printable pdf sheets, when systems sell the character journals they always reformat it so one character sheet covers like four pages instead of just one. They also throw in some blank pages for note taking or drawing or whatever people feel like doing which honestly wastes even more space. I don't have a printer anymore and they're expensive these days anyway. Keeping my character sheets as a fillable pdf always sucks and rarely saves correctly so I really prefer having something physical, I'm find spending a few buck on a pile of sheets but I agree that the asking price of around $20 (on sale now they're like $4) for these journals I wouldn't pay for them if they weren't giving them to me for free with other purchases
>>
Just bought everything I could, but missed out on the core rulebook and I hate pdf versions. It's so over
>>
>>43568215
You won't get it as on sale as the other books but there are probably copies on Amazon or something. Likely not a huge difference when the sale only brought it down to $44
>>
>>43568598
Not sure why they didn't discount it by much, on the European store it's 10 euros
>>
>>43568215
>>43568598
Yeah, looks like you can get a copy on ebay for $60
Which might actually be cheaper than getting it from Renegade with the shipping.
At least when buying it by itself.
>>
Anybody got pdfs of the two/three cossover scenarios they did with ponies?
>>
>>43567225
>just need friends to actually play...
we all do
>>
I've bought all of the physical MLP stuff they've sold, most of it on pre-order, so I had enough points to grab another copy of Dark Skies for a friend, and chose to get the adventure module that comes with the GM screen for $6 and had enough points to redeem for free shipping ($22+ discount)

...I wonder if I should have done a huge bulk order for a group and maximize the free shipping reward; I wonder if there was a limit and what it would have been.
>>
>>43569514
what's kinda funny, and also kinda not is that more than once I lost track of what I pre-ordered and didn't realize I already had and so I have two boxes of the Festival of Lanterns, and two books of Story of the Seasons...

I contacted support about the mistake and they refunded me, and when I asked about sending the extras back, they said I could keep them, which was really awesome of them. considering the Free Table at HarmonyCon, but would they really be appreciated by someone that would pick them up?

wait a minute... you don't roll the traits/stats, you just decide if you want your pony to be better in Body or in Mind, and then set them accordingly:
Better Mind = Body D4, Mind D6, Charm D6
Better Body = Body D6, Mind D4, Charm D6
Stamina is Body + Mind, so it starts at 10
Your pegasus gets "Fly" at D6 by default:
>This talent lets the pony fly above the ground and look down from above, and also walk on and touch clouds. The higher the die, the faster and more skillful the flyer.

Pick a Cutie Mark talent to start with at D6. you may pick a talent from the list (or make one up pending GM approval if using softer rules). If you decide that your Cutie Mark talent has to do with flying, you can boost Fly to D8 instead of picking a second talent.

You must also pick one Quirk to start with, either one from the book or pending GM approval, make one up.

Friendship tokens are issued at the start of the game: player count + GM. The book contradicts itself on gaining tokens when leveling up, so that's a GM call.

...That's all for a Level 1 pony though. Your Pony Sheet says level 0, so your pegasus is actually:
Body D4, Mind D4, Charm D6, Stamina 8, Talent: Fly D4, no other talents or level-ups until you get your cutie mark, still must pick a Quirk.

I'm down to play too. I play with some friends on discord voice chat and use a dice bot. the fancier games we'll use roll20, but we all hate it.

Cutie mark is a locker, because she's good at shoving ponies into lockers
>>
>>43570669
no, at level 0, your traits are just: D4, D4, D6 period. everything else looks good though.

Yeah, scheduling is the main killer of most campaigns. I've actually messed around with Grok as the player(s) and GMming with it and it worked pretty solid. It's eager to please though, so you have to set expectations and remind it to make decisions that are in character for the pony it's playing and not to try and please you at every prompt/round.

>>43570683
>Cutie mark is a locker
If that's the case, and we're letting the dice decide, then the pony is a Level 1, roll a D2:
1: Better Body -- D6, D4, D6
2: Better Mind -- D4, D6, D6
CM: Locker Shoving D6
T: Fly D6

>Name: Null Void
>Pony Type: Unicorn

>Body: D4
>Mind: D6
>Charm D6
>CM: Singularity (D6) -- Able to compress an object or part of one into a small black hole proportional to its mass, higher die increases the mass able to be converted and duration of the hole before it evaporates.
>T: Telekinesis (D6)
>Quirk: Broken Scale -- difficulty judging the mass of an object without a chart, tool or reference
>Cutie Mark: An event horizon that suspiciously looks like a ponut
>>
>>43570749
I ran the numbers and the Singularity talent was essentially useless as written, so I worked out something more fun and reasonable:

Maximum mass you can compress = Faces on the die you actually roll, times 10 kilograms (22 pounds)
The singularity's pull strength in G = The seed's weight divided by 50 kilograms (110 pounds)
The minimum safe distance = The seed's weight divided by 100 kilograms (220 pounds), times 2 meters (6.6 feet)

When the talent is dropped and the singularity evaporates, the items used and affected are returned crushed/crumpled or otherwise destroyed.

SO...
A d6 = 60 kilograms (132 pounds) maximum amount of mass that can be compressed (an item or part of an item). That is a 1.2 G pull on anything 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) or closer. Anything outside that radius is safe. If an item is heavier than the seed, than it cannot be pulled while at rest.

If the die explodes, use the new die's faces for calculations.
If Friendship Tokens are used for instant success, use Talent's Die's faces.
If Friendship Tokens are used to roll a D20, use 20 faces for calculations.

Great Success = the mass compressed evaporates with the singularity, and any items pulled in compress into small gems.

The talent gets rolled with Mind to determine concentration to compress the mass and to hold the singularity.

At D20, it's not as impressive as I would like it to be, but I'll take it.

There's two official ones: the one >>43556565 mentioned by Renegade Game Studios and there's Tails of Equestria by River Horse.

The River Horse one came out first and is very rules light, meant for younger players. Renegade stepped it up a bit and applied their Essence20™ Roleplaying System, much more in depth and compatible with all their other licensed TTRPGs so you can do crossover campaigns with Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Power Rangers. I think they even have published crossover content pre-made available.

Pardon the phoneposting but my order just showed up. I think outside of using them in games, Story of the Seasons is my favorite. I like the part where they list every holiday and festival shown in the show and lists what episode and season it came from. It also had a legendary triple berry frame. The other books are still good and have a lot of useful stuff, but the seasons one is just slightly above
