>>43559890I don't think she's sure about it because nobody has been able to test it. At first she shows fear of the princesses' power. Bartleby doesn't count because he's Bartleby. I thought Trixie was more powerful than her since she ascended to godhood. Besides Trixie is one of the few characters who isn't afraid to set boundaries with her. Also running on the assumption that Flawless and Fractured are weaker when separated. As shown in the Tournament of Power then they fuse back again.
>>43559890Full power Flawless lost to Twiggypiggy's weakest transformation and the princesses repeatedly trash her for being a pale imitation of her mothers even before Trixie is any good.Implications seem to be pretty strong that the princesses are still more powerful than Twilight and pegacorn!Trixie or at least the main two are still afraid of them and even just Luna by herself even when they're doing their biggest shit and Trixie ran to her for help and stuff.Pre pegacorn/abyss Cadance was definitely more powerful than them so I feel like the ranking isGlimmerFlawlessCadance/ChrysalisTwilight/TrixieCelestia/Lunafrom least to most with the only really ambiguous one being flawless vs. cadanceit's just that the mirror ponies are walking around with their metaphysical dick out at all times whereas the main 2 and the princesses only flash their junk occasionally and are usually operating on a much lower level.Like Trixie could obviously win at basketball by remaking the universe but last time she did something like that the princesses sent her to the moon and she just took itWhereas it seems like way more effort for Flawless to do even individual reality edits but she gets away with doing them all the time.I'd really love to get more Sunset she had a good dynamic with the main cast. What I'd especially want is a proper Celestia and Sunset episode.Funnily enough Celestia taking Twilight starting a family without her so hard is really contextualized by the fact that in this universe it's probably the second time she got rejected (the first literal maybe) by her groomed student

Do you guys think Derpy will take Dinky's death well?
>>43560397No?Literally every straight character is in mares. Yaoi has forced jokes about how every single character is gay, and in reality they're not just gay but specifically in a show which is >70% female the majority of characters are gay men, with OCs churned out to fill the slots.Even the straight sidecharacters (e.g. Derpy) are just mares characters that were transferred over unchangedThe last two mares multi-episode subplots have been about romance that was partially or entirely straight (FMF love triangle, pure straight sibling sex) and this has always been the trend. Cadence is so straight that she manages to stay straight despite getting R63'd and even the alicorn of homosexuality herself sexually assaults and is being romantically teased with a man.Even though canonically the vast majority of mares background ponies must be gay, but they don't act on it due to Celestia's regime - which is itself a coherent world as well as a throwaway joke.

>>43560799Chrysalis x Cadance is more likely to happen now that they can bond over getting cucked by Luna.
>>43560404Most likely. But I like to imagine Trixie and Twilight could only afford one so they fight over who gets to wear it. But it seems they now possess newfound wealth thanks to Blueblood's haul. I wonder what they'll do with all that money.
Whenever Tamers tries to get serious it reminds me of that awful Family Guy episode where Quagmire’s sister has an abusive boyfriend and the whole episode treats it seriously and barely has any jokes in it. Pretty much any Mari and Glimmer episode is like that for me.
>>43560935I can see how they're similar, but the tone and animation have much different presentations. Family's Guys art style and animation is a atrocious, so, ironically, How can I take any if it seriously?I like Tamers' work.
>>43560935Given that quagmire is the character in question, the whole point is likely that it is hypocritical of him to expect another man to treat his sister like a person, when he normally lives in a horny haze of comedic dehumanization. It is similarly hypocritical of family guy to attempt serious commentary when it normally lives in a sarcastic haze of comedic dissociation. So, you are forced to reach one of two conclusions if you willingly engage with the episode.Either>The episode is full of shit for attempting to be meaningful at this point and quagmire should shut his hipocritical mouth, in which case he's the bad guy.>Quagmire is right here, which indicates that actually everything DOES count and the apathetic comedic malice which family guy normally engages in is wrongIn other words, one way or another, that episode is commenting on the family guy formula, and is likely critical of it. t. hasn't watched the shit
>>43560958Exactly. Why should I give a shit when Mari’s Dad or Glimmer hits her when the entire cast is pulling similar horrible behavior for laughs constantly?
>>43560935>>43560995The stuff you're describing isn't meant to be taken seriouslyOr like all of it is including the stuff Twilight does. I'm not really sure how you're interpreting the show but it's definitely wrong.>Exactly.The characters in tamers MLP are villains. You're not supposed to identify with any of them. Twilight and her wife are psychotic arrogant murderers and this is played straight. If you need a reason to care about your favorite murder horse it should just be because she's cute or she's funny.Just because Mari thinks that she's a sympathetic character doesn't meant that she actually is - you're talking about somepony that is killing ponies and skinning them alive for fun. The fact that she actually tries to give explanations for her behavior is partially a joke and partially just characterization
>>43560935Most adult animated sitcoms can be all over the top and then try to be preachy afterwards because they're made for the mainstream so they have to have a point to justify all the gratuitous violence and humor. If they don't have a point then they get called out and you have a Drawn Together situation or any of those mid to awful adult animated series that those cartoon reviewers won't stop bitching about. Tamers works better as a synthesis of fanfiction tropes that are meant to be taken seriously but you can't because of the absurdity of it all. And the only reason why it works is its honesty. It's not going to have a character look at the camera and say "yeah this is stupid" after a real significant event happened. If you care for the characters and if they believe the absurdity of their reality then it becomes easier to suspend your disbelief. That's something I truly appreciate about Tamers as a writer. No matter how crude the reality of this world seems depicted. It never grows bitter or cynical. It never feels like it's looking down on the tropes he seems to be taking from. And it thrives on them as the core appeal while also recognizing their absurdity. With how many new series out there that try to stand out by ripping on the past it's just refreshing to see something that doesn't scream "this thing you liked is shit and you should like this version instead". (Which is ironic with how many times Tamers himself has said to watch his videos instead of the source of his material)>>43560995I think the main problem is that with so much violence there is it's becoming increasingly difficult for anything to be shocking, therefore the weight of those actions are diminished and less likely to change our perception of the characters enforcing them. A character can blow the brains out of someone only for them to come back to life the next episode. But I think this is the result of overexposure after years of consuming his content. It's not exactly a character problem. It's just that the gags and repetition are starting to show for some people. The abuse of Mari isn't shocking anymore because it happens on every episode she appears. The fact that every dad in the series (Except for CP's dad) has to be abusive or have violent tendencies makes it less meaningful for characters to be affected by it. Do people even shock at Care Package and Apple Split killings anymore? And this also applies to the melodrama. No matter how funny a joke is you can tell it once or twice but the third time isn't going to be as funny. Imagine laughing at the same joke for years.
>>43561039You are clearly supposed to be sympathetic to Mari and treat her abuse seriously. Why else would so many scenes featuring her be so dark and humorless? Her entire character is basically summed up by her abuse. Sure she kills people but it’s always nameless background ponies, it’s treated like a character quirk instead of a heinous act.
>>43561071>Why else would so many scenes featuring her be so dark and humorless? He's the Meg of Tamers' MLP
>>43561082*SheSorry
>>43561071>You are clearly supposed to be sympathetic to Mari and treat her abuse seriously.Oh and what's your evidence for that? That if you pretend that she's sympathetic and treat her abuse seriously then the show doesn't work? Yeah nah>Why else would so many scenes featuring her be so dark and humorless? They aren't? There's the occasional self-serious scene but that is part of the joke in those scenes. Like you aren't supposed to be sympathetic to Tirek either even though he gets abused nonstop. It's the same sort of genre as slapstick ultraviolence like Superjail or XRA.Like yeah man this scene is so clearly humorless and meant to be taken seriously I'm sure
>*slurp*
>>43560995Why should you give a shit when starlight farts a random stallion to death? You seem to. You seem to think it is very funny. Why?Well, because all those words have definitions which describe a specific thing when used in this order, and that thing is funny. In other words, you can only have humor so long as you still have enough grounding that anything happening on screen means anything to you.So, if tamers just continues to pump absurd ultra violence and feces at you for years, and yet you don't suffer from loss or smell shit ever, then your understanding of the meaning of shit and murder will change in the context of tamers. Shit would just mean "brown irrelevant detail" and death would just mean "the character will shut up for a moment." and eventually you'll feel nothing. But, that hasn't happened. yet. Flippancy isn't constructive, and does not make for good entertainment, long-term. Desensitization and the destruction of meaning is incomplete without sensitization and the construction of meaning. So, if flippant murder and apathy are just the other side of the coin of care, then care is not actually hypocritical. It is, in fact, the exact same action, that action being the evaluation of your personal values. And, you know, it's not like the tone shift is actually that heavy. We're not suddenly watching a full and skilled rendition of phantom of the opera, complete with actors and a set for an hour and a half. We are instead watching two lesbians literally breaking spines while also getting giddy over the mere implication that they might liiiiiiike~~~~ eachother~~~ <3<3<3(crunch)If there's an issue, then it's an issue of pacing being slowed to an absolute crawl and like 4 episodes giving us basically the same mari backstory in a row, and not an issue of "how dare the artist expect me to think about the art they make which I willingly consume and actually feel something for once".
>>43560692I would say im not gay for this cutey, but every time I see him I get thoughts about sleeping with him.

Don't feed the schizos just ignore them
>>43561039>>43561112I honestly think you have no idea what tamers is going for. You are very clearly supposed to take the characters seriously at times, I don't know how you can watch the show and not understand that. The fact that there is ultraviolence and characters doing evil shit doesn't actually detract from the serious moments where you can relate to the characters and appreciate their stories, because it's basically the show switching between different "modes" of storytelling. If you don't have good enough media literacy to identify when the show is in one mode or the other, that's on you.
>>43561329You're injecting random bullshit which I didn't say and much more importantly, isn't in the show into the conversation and whining that I don't parse things through your myopic lens.Appreciating the humor doesn't detract from appreciating the storytelling. The narrative that because a scene conveys real information it can't have jokes, or that jokes can't convey real information and that comedic scenes have to be taken to mean nothing is entirely inside your head.> it's basically the show switching between different "modes" of storytellingNo.Every frame of every episode is every "mode" of storytelling. Something doesn't arbitrarily stop existing in the work just because it's in a moment which predominantly has another tone. They exist together.
Death of Twilight Sparkle was so impactful because of its serious moments, which themselves could also be taken as joke (gays are funny). Leading up to the climax of their movie, most of the Twixie moments in previous are pretty much all taken seriously. Sure, Twilight stuffing her face with bologna sandwiches while she becomes friends with Trixie is funny, and so is Trixie telling Twilight "now she's just another bitch" after she lost her alicorn status and she almost starts crying, it was still a wholesome moment that built the very foundation of tamers' magnum opus and his ongoing best show.
>>43561335>Every frame of every episode is every "mode" of storytellingThis is simply not true. Some actions in the show are clearly shown to have no consequences to the plot, while others do. Some scenes are gags, and others are real parts of the story. Sometimes these get mixed, I'll agree on that, but that doesn't mean that they're always mixed, or that every evil thing a character does should be taken seriously as a real part of their character. Your assertion that twilight and trixie are supposed to be viewed purely as villains proves to me that you don't understand the show on a basic level. Twilight is currently going through a villainous phase, because most of her bad actions during the episode are "real" and meant to inform her arc, and not simply gag violence. If she was meant to be a "psychotic arrogant murderer" from the get go, what would be the meaning of her current arc? Why would she have decided to try being more selfish/evil in the first place? And why would Trixie talk about flawless inheriting empathy from her?I don't expect to convince you, but I'm confused how you've ostensibly watched 32+ hours of Tamers content and ended up this far off-base.
>>43561335When the coyoteis flattened by the acme anvilI do not vomit from being exposed to the most disgusting death I've ever witnessed. That reaction does not exist, because of the tone and the mode of storytelling.
>>43561364>what would be the meaning of her current arc?Celestia found twilight in the wild just once, and twilight when viewed from this outside perspective was basically brutalizing people casually. She was doing this because that's what she was taught for most of her life. The difference now is not that she's more evil, it's that she's rebelling. That's also the actual reason why celestia had to try to destroy her candy operation, or at least a reason. It is natural that celestia would oppose actions which are a direct challenge to her personally.
>>43561377>twilight was basically brutalizing people casually.Did you forget the part where she literally got fired from being an Alicorn because of that? She hasn't been like that ever since, she still deals with the consequences of that to this day, such as when Celestia keeps humiliating her by making everyone an Alicorn BUT her. Twilight wasn't raised to be cruel merciful killer, she was raised to be a perfect loyal bitch to Princess Celestia.
*merciless
>>43561401It is perfectly possible, and expected, that celestia would raise twilight to be a merciless attack dog and then also reject and humiliate her for behaving like a rabid attack dog. That just sounds like what celestia would do, and also he hired twilight and crew to kill braeburn and burn his farm and called that good. So she factually made her do a merciless killing.
>>43561413>So she factually made her do a merciless killing. That's the difference. The Arson episode was Twilight acting on Celestia's orders; her murdering innocent ponies in the Unicorn Con episode wasn't. You know, I wish CP would get even a FRACTION of the long term consequences Twilight faces for being a murderer. But nah, CP is an author's pet and a terrible character.
>>43561328Mari....
>>43561364>This is simply not true.It is.>I don't expect to convince you, but I'm confused how you've ostensibly watched 32+ hours of Tamers content and ended up this far off-base.I'm not off-base, you're the retard that's trying to force it to conform to an abitrary system of classification reliant on discounting >70% of what happens on screen as not being part of the work.>Your assertion that twilight and trixie are supposed to be viewed purely as villainsI never said this lmaoI know that you mean something completely fucking different by this than what I actually said, because you believe in these retarded absolute framings so you think calling them a villain means you have to discount 90% of their character but no, what I mean by that is just that she's evil. Not that you have to pretend that anything which could have good connotations doesn't exist.>Twilight is currently going through a villainous phase, because most of her bad actions during the episode are "real" and meant to inform her arc, and not simply gag violence.Twilight's violence is and always has been real. Watch unicorn con.>If she was meant to be a "psychotic arrogant murderer" from the get go, what would be the meaning of her current arc?She literally fucking explains it in the show? And it's part of a long running arc about how she's finding a family in Trixie that covers the deepseated needs that she has either intrinsically or from Celestia's grooming and the effects of being independent from the central authority that has run her life to the point of physically holding her down in her bed to sleep while Twilight is eating out of the doggie bowl besides it.Twilight is just an ammoral murderer. She is and always has been. She's not being more evil. She's doing something for herself. It's just evil for Twilight's sake - patterned off of pre-relationship Trixie's petty criminal behavior - as opposed to the previous evil for Celestia's sake.>>43561401>Twilight wasn't raised to be cruel merciful [sic] killerDid you miss the part where she was literally killing a van of people that she loved in Career Day because Celestia told her to?>>43561049>people are talking about recent mares episodes>uses recent stallions to try to explain the mindset of the creatorWhy are you such a fuckwit? Like you can feel however you want about the two authors but they're not the same person and they're not the same work, one doesn't reflect on the other.
>>43561446Forgot picrel, the scene where Twilight literally has this conversation and explains her motivation to her wife
>>43561427You're probably going to get your wish. I wouldn't say he's a bad character, but his arc has definitely been more about learning to cede power to people he loves than about his serial killing, for the most part. But in the last several episodes they've been dropping hints that his dad is going to learn about the past and care package is going to have his relationship with his father seriously damaged by his hobby murders. They bring it up in bad influence, and now they're stuck in an alternate dimension with basically every single person who knows that care package is a murderer. They've also introduced Last Laugh who clearly has some kind of baggage with care package's dad, although we still don't know the exact nature of it. It seems like a recipe for good drama to me. The dad finding out what happened and not knowing how to handle it, care package yearning for acceptance, someone care package has never met suddenly appearing and being there for his father, fostering mistrust and jealousy. I'm really excited for the next big episode, honestly.
This autistic conversation reminds of the good ol days when FIM was still airing.
>>43561446>>43561449>Twilight's violence is and always has been real. Watch unicorn con.I agree that that scene in unicorn con is not a full gag, but I think it's more meant to show that twilight is full of herself for being an alicorn, rather than that she's evil in the way you say. Killing a random bg pony doesn't carry the same "weight" as a lot of evil acts in the show. Twilight was also a lot more mean in general pre-DoTS, but became significantly kinder as the show went on.>>43561449She may explain that she wants to do things for herself, and that is indeed a big part of her motivation, but try watching "Twilight Sparkle Gets Into A Fist Fight With A Pony In A Wheelchair After She Becomes God", the scene at the end when she's talking to Trixie.>I couldn't save sky wishes>What are you saying, of course you did>No I couldn't, not on my own. I tried talking to her at first, but nothing I said mattered to her. She tried to kill me, so I tried to kill her.>Sometimes it's fun to be bad, huh?>That's a terrible thing for a pony to say!>Maybe, but I used to be bad remember? and then you taught me how to be good. So if you ever wanted, I could teach you how to be bad.How do you watch this scene and come away thinking Tamers is framing these characters as villainous amoral psychopaths? Based on the rest of the scene after what I quoted, I could see coming to the conclusion that she's "only good because celestia wants her to be", but I don't think that really makes that much sense given that Celestia really IS an amoral psychopath and clearly wouldn't have cared whether Twilight killed Sky Wishes or not. Rather, I think twilight has certain standards that she holds herself to, trying to be a "good pony", and that involves both following Celestia's orders AND being empathetic. So she decides to go against both of those things, and become the amoral pony you're claiming that she's always been, despite this and other textual evidence that goes against that. As another example, let's look at the end of "Trixie meets Twilight's Parents and Immediately Regrets It" when Trixie is talking to flawless before their musical number.>You saved him, even after what he did, you actually saved him>Well, I couldn't exactly let him die, I mean imagine how twilight would feel, she might have never spoken to us again.>You're truly something. You know, I'm proud of you flawless>Huh, what for?>You made the right call, you did what I probably wouldn't have, saving him.>I just did what I could to end it without casualties>Yes, that's the empathy you inherited from twilight, something which I lack. Why would the show repeatedly say, in serious scenes almost completely devoid of comedic moments, that Twilight has empathy and tries to be a good pony, if we're supposed to view her the way you do? It simply doesn't make sense.
>>43561588That's kind of the point?Bitch will just do horrific things to peopleBut also is capable of empathy. She just isn't always using it.She is a bad person, literally a broken person with a brain disease which has been weaponized in favor of her dysfunction, and still she's a person and is best understood as a person. I'll say it direct, so that you can hear how silly it is. "Bad people don't have empathy."seems false
>>43561357 yes.
>>43561602Then why does Trixie directly contrast Twilight's empathy with her own lack of it? Trixie is an originally bad pony that has learned to do good things, while Twilight is a good pony that sometimes does bad things, usually for comedic effect. And Twilight clearly has moral standards which she feels the need to hold herself to. These include questionable things like obeying Princess Celestia's authority, but they also involve showing kindness and not murdering her enemies, as can be seen in the serious parts of various episodes like Shattered Harmony, Death of Trixie, and the episode I mentioned in my last post.

I suppose the worst thing she did (other than murder her father) was plan to take advantage of Twilight and then run off after marrying her.She is generally portrayed as frequently selfish/arrogant though, which is part of her personality, though she also shows a lot of kindness at times, especially to her family.

Bothered to watch the dandy episode. It's... good? No. Different. It's kind of different. It's good on it's own merits, and seems like it does the whole petty social conflict thing better than most dandy's world episodes. But, it isn't really the same kind of funny as most of the other good dandy episodes. It's odd. It does the one central idea about dandy's world better than any other, but that's a cover for the growing horror elements which take over fully halfway through. And then the conflict just ends.It feels like an incomplete episode somehow, which may be intended.Thematically, the point of the episode is the introduction of something like "the gay desire to be weak", which sprout and now dandy seem to have, so it's good that these relationships actually mean something now. Hard to put my reaction into words.

>>43563478He shouldn't have been riding Astro's fat balls like a pony, then, with that fat head of his.
>>43563362Stopped watching dandy for awhile, stallion tamers just isnt good. Also I think stallion tamers is a borderline pedophile making that shit with dandys world. SU and MLP are "for kids" but they're old as hell so the fans of them are all 30+ now. Dandys world is "for kids" and currently relevant so dandys world fans are mostly kids, its weird as fuck to make borderline fetish cartoons for series actively being watched by kids who are looking up stuff about it on youtube.
>>43563487>its weird as fuck to make borderline fetish cartoons for series actively being watched by kidsThat's the exact same dumb shit people were demonizing bronies for in the 2010s, where do you think you are?
>>43560413It's okay, Derpy and Bulk will just make another one.
>>43563362Stallion tamers is a bit more.... "competent"?.... "skilled"?..... "traditional"?... when it comes to writing the scripts. Not sure what word to use. It's not necessarily better, but a stallion/DW episode will almost always have a clear begining middle and end. A mare episode will often completely forget about a B plot half way through, then loredump for 5 minutes, then have a random new character do an anime fight in the sky.I'm saying this as someone who enjoys the mare episodes much more than stallions/DW. The fact that a DW episode follows writing rules and conventions (chekovs gun for example) makes them more boring. These conventions do "work", there's a reason TV script writers have developed them over the past 100 years. It makes plots that are followable and coherent. Cause and Effect. When a skitzo mare episode actually ties everything up in the end (a rare treat) it's fucking KINOIn the past dozen or so mare episodes, I do think mare tamers has also become more "skilled" at writing, leading to more real plotlines and character arcs. But somehow he also still keeps the autist magic. He *can* write standard scripts, but he often chooses not to.This can all be seen in the art, too. DW is incredibly consistent with the drawings. Compare this to Trixie or Bulk biceps, who I'm not even sure what they "really" look like, since they shift around so often.
>>43563362I thought some of the gags were great, but I agree that the ending felt really abrupt. Overall an enjoyable episode.

*Then
hello tamers threadit has been a whilethe last time I watched tamers was at my failed tamers on CRT watchparty at Neighcon...but those watchparties led to my mare fair TV cart, which turned out amarezing.anyway!my van has been sitting all summer, with the exhaust hanging wrong.my living room has been too cluttered to use the 36" tube....and I'm in too deep to sit here at my computer and "watch tamers normally".so, van is fix. the last DVD that I burnt was #20, containing the twilight werewolf episode and the celestia's feelings episode, so... I have come to steal images from this thread for my various DVD menus, post images I guess, I don't care, you don't care, nobody asked, on luna, no cap, 67, red sus

>>43564229yippie! also here's one of my favorite photos from mare fair, corp stealing my tv because people were playing tamers too loudly on it.I never /planned/ to do the TV cart thing, the cart was supposed to be for plushies, but it sucked at holding plushies, and the venue was being anal about room parties, so I ended up stickin' a TV on it.Funny thing is, the tamers VHS tapes weren't even mine... I'm tamers DVD guy, so while I've been putting a lot of pony on tape I'm leaving him handle the tamers-on-tape.Also in which fucking episode does somepony shoot up a fucking walmart? If I'm remembering it right, that's why my poor tellyvision had to be confiscated.
>>43564236Tamers is also the reason I ended up nixing the boombox after day 1 and just leaving people with the tv speaker, I heard tales from some of the vendors about thunderous and unholy farts....
