It's such a small thing but it's so jarring, I know animators want to show that they can do more than simple expressions, and I'm glad that the characters aren't as "stiff" as they are in the early seasons, but those faces are seriously so bad. A lot of the problems with the later parts of the show is that they start writing for something the show was not meant to be. Like they wanted this silly pony show to be this amazing epic that needed to have bombastic storylines when it was just fine being relatively simple, and this is where they start writing themselves into a corner and everything gets so muddy that it ends up being shit writing.

There's just too many of them that own carnivore pets for it to reasonably be something they would find morally reprehensible. Scootaloo's admission that she'll never fly came very suddenly and wrenched my heart, even though I maintain that she was originally just supposed to be a late bloomer like Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle, and not an outright cripple.
