Holy cow - youve got to be kidding. This band was without doubt the most spineless and lamest of 'punk' acts. They sound exactly like they were - pub-rock Bandwagon jumpers. The debut was a tinny, cowardly super-fake sack of tripe - this album was where they tried to get all arty and break away from the 'punk' label (which they never were in the first place) and thus is a mish-mash of styles including pure pop, rock and roll, doo-wop, reggae and god knows what else. Nice idea, but the clash were just too talentless to pull it off. I saw this band way back in late 76 and thought then what a bunch of fake poseurs they were - Joe strummer the upper middle class voice of the working class! what a laugh. This band were so fake its just unbelivable that anyone bought into it at all. But then again, people read the sun newspaper, vote for politicians, watch eastenders, eat in mcdonalds etc. Talk about the great rock and roll swindle - this is it kids!
You're right. All "punk" is just manufactured horseshit. People who bought into as children teens can't be blamed but to still believe it as an adult makes you a fool.Note: I am not saying that there is good music that fits the moniker of punk rock, there is plenty.

>>127570596British punk is garbage for limpwristed faggots. American hardcore is where it's at

The only true punk bands are the ones you never heard about
>>127572781Name the bands, anon
The clash is the only good punk band because they literally don't sound punk at allSame applies to metal
>Joe Strummer was no different. It was terrible the way he died, but it needs saying that he wasn't the savviest cultural commentator. His politics were all over the place; bluster over substance, that's what he represented. We supported The Clash in New York in 1981. Belting out naive generalizations in front of this backdrop that went from the Yorkshire Ripper to pictures of kids being coshed; all very clichéd. It was like watching the news in your living room with The Clash playing in the corner. Everybody knows it's wrong. But coming at it from that angle is pointless, thoughtless even.>The sad thing about it all is he distanced himself from his middle-class background and education, appropriated this tough heart-on-the-sleeve messenger stance so convincingly, but lacked the wit to take it anywhere fresh. He was preaching to the converted, and I don't just mean his fans, but himself as well. He daren't offend anybody, because they'd just charge him with being a phoney, and he daren't look at it in a sceptical way, because then he'd be employing his privileged education. That was the crux of his problem.
>>127572781You've never heard of the Damned?
For some incredibly asinine reasons Sex Pistols are still more well known than PiL, The Fall isn't considered as literally the best punk band in history and Fun House by The Stooges — as the best punk album that ever came from the US.
Never rated them. The only punk band that mattered and still matters are the Sex Pistols. All the others were just fluffers that within a year or two created a circle jerk slipstream and the whole genre became as conservative, close minded and rigid as the prog genre they supposedly kicked against.
>>127573755>The only punk band that mattered and still matters are the Sex PistolsLydon himself stated that Sex Pistols were shite and became irrelevant in 1979.
>>127570596Also I've no idea whose quote this is but it wouldn't surprise me if it's John Lydon himself, despite the americanisms
>>127573765Yes, and in the beginning they were brilliant. I didn't even know they still existed in 1979.
>>127573778They didn't, fell apart in 1978. Then Lydon started Public Image Ltd, and it's first two albums are infinitely better than anything that was released by Sex Pistols. In fact, SP matter much more as an inspiration: like, 19 y.o. Mark E. Smith saw their gig in 1976, and his reaction basically was "That's it? I can do it better"; and then he did.
>>127571753Lol. Lmao even. American hardcore aged extremely poorly, who can really go back and listen to Dead Kennedy's or Henry Rollins with a straight face knowing how it all played out? GBH, Discharge, UK Subs, Blitz all still holds up
The Misfits and Blink 182 are the only good punk bands
Punk rock and to a lesser extent hardcore punk were always bland and kinda shit. Post-punk was always objectively better and more interesting than punk rock, even if it was pioneered by and filled with the kinds of middle class/upper-middle class dweebs that OG punks hated. Same goes for post-hardcore, though unlike post-punk, phc bands kept the simple casual street fashion that hardcore bands bad, making them a lot more appealing to normies and people with no fashion sense like me

>>127570596Isn't this a copypasta? London Calling was a punk band doing different styles but filtered through a punk ethos, the music and album are bloated and although it is a "magnum opus" and whatnot, I prefer their earlier punk rock stuff
