What is your favorite Smiths song?
>>
>>127574343

I grew out of my Smiths phase and I find it corny now. But my fav song at the time was Bigmouth strikes again.

All of them except Vicar in a Tutu and London

im more of an album guy
>>
>>127574465
This one is good. my favorite was Never Had No One Ever. I like I Have Forgiven Jesus from Morissey's solo work. The Headmaster Ritual is also pretty great. It gets me off a little to imagine Morrissey miserable.

Last Night I dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
I Know It's Over
Never Had No One Ever
>>
>>127574343
My most favorite is Well I Wonder (because I associate my favorite memory with my mother before I moved away). My other favorites are Panic, girl afraid, this night have opened my eyes, shoplifters of the world, how soon is now, heaven knows I'm miserable now, hand in glove, asleep, barbarism begins at home, death of a disco dancer, girlfriend in a coma, please please let me get what I want, last night I dreamt that somebody loved me and I know it's over. I love the smiths.

>>127575399
Lol. Imagine thinking there's some objective top 20 Smiths songs. It's all subjective. You're acting like a retarded teenager who just discovered them. Touch grass.
>>
>>127575656
It's a say of saying that it's nowhere close to being their greatest and that is an objective fact. You know nothing about their music and should quit trying to speak on. Also, eat my ass.

You sound very mentally ill if you're getting this pressed over nothing. Remember to take your meds. I hope you're just baiting because it's pathetic otherwise.

“I Know It’s Over,” which is somewhat well-known (perhaps because it was covered by Jeff Buckley). Their most underrated song is “Nowhere Fast,” and their most underrated line is “Has the Perrier gone straight to my head/Or is life sick and cruel instead?” “Death of a Disco Dancer” is underrated as well.
>>
>>127576927
Half a person is also very underrated. I never seen anyone talk about it and it's so great.

The entire Bona Drag compilation album is an honorary Smiths album because Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce contributed a lot to it. And it even sounds almost exactly like a Smiths album.

Agree.

>>127577299
Every female understands it because mostly women listen to The Smiths.
>>
>>127577855
My mom was the one who introduced to the Smiths. And she kissed Morrissey on the cheek when she was young. I honestly think Morrissey has more female fans than male fans irl. R.E.M. on the other hand has mostly only male fans.

It's one of the two or three songs I dislike by them which is an amazing feat. It just doesn't sound like what I love from the Smiths. Pretty forgettable track musically, in my opinion, and not Moz's best showing lyrically. It just does nothing for me. Always a skip.

Thanks for sharing. Maybe you'll come around because he's based as fuck

Apparently Panic is my most replayed song by them on Spotify for many years now so Panic. You can seriously listen to that song at any time no matter whatever mood you’re in.

I think you need to be bong to "get it". The guitars might not be typical Marr but they fit perfectly to the subject.

>meat is murder is b tier
>i want the one i can't have is c tier
Shocking. Meat is murder is easily f tier, it drones on and has this cheap piano the whole song. It is preachy, it is easily one of their worst songs out of their whole catalog. But it is your opinion

it was a song about nothing and about boobs. Some girls have bigger boobs and butts than others.

Morrissey purposefully made Vini Reilly play Marr's "How Soon Is Now" riffs in Disappointed as a diss track to him lol. Say what you will about Morrissey but he knows how to pick his band members.

Yeah, I've moved onto the Replacements and prefer them to The Smiths. I don't know why but nowadays I don't like Morrissey's voice.

there are a lot of similarities to mexican bolero/mariachi/folk music in terms of lyrical style and vocal delivery.

I like how it is preachy and how it annoys people bc what it is preaching is just plain reality, the song is catchy and memorable too

>>127584191
london is half a song

Girl Afraid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVy-zkB3ESg
>>
>>127585000
It being true or not is not the issue, I don't mind preachy if it is done right. The problem with meat is murder as a song is that it wasn't done right, it has a cheap piano and it has this droning sound, it is one of their weakest and worst tracks ever recorded imo. Just my opinion. You can like it all you want, it is just my opinion on the track. I personally don't like it, but those are just my two cents
>>
>>127587881
End of the Family Line is the exact same song done much better.
>>
>>127587929
I would agree. It has that down tempo ballad like swing feel, the same that meat is murder was going for. Except it was actually good. Meat is murder has this tinny cheap piano the whole song, the way it does preachiness is not good, this is all personal opinion so what it doesn't do for me it does for someone else. The smiths can do slow songs, they can do serious songs, they can do dreary songs, meat is murder stands as one of the worst songs off their legendary 3 album run of genius back to back. Still ill has some of that preachiness but the song and lyrics are actually good, the way it is pulled off is good. Meat is murder is not
>>
>>127574351
this, or Ask

Still Ill. That song holds a place close to my heart. On second place either Asleep or Theres is a Light that never goes out closely followed by Heaven knows im misreable now.
>>
>>127587881
>>127587929
>>127588009
there's nothing wrong with the music, you don't like it because the lyrics make you uncomfortable, but you are the kind of ''person'' that doesn't like being called out on anything so you deflect from the real issue like that, in this life I've seen too many golems like you, and even IF the music was not good it wouldn't even be just to call it one of their worst, the lyrics are moz at his sharpest and the song services the important message well, tl;dr stfu

I like earth crisis, and you're baiting. So i'll entertain your bait. Earth crisis is militantly vegan, straight edge, and preachy as fuck. It can be grating if you aren't already into it. Most of their songs are preachy and lecturing you about veganism, the animals, to not eat meat and to abstain from doing drugs. I am not a vegan but you don't need to be to listen to music that is militantly vegan that preaches the virtue of veganism and how ethical it is. I enjoy the music because it is good, the execution isn't bad so the music stands on its own and the delivery of the lyrics and message only make it better. I don't like meat is murder because it is not a good song, lyrical topic aside, the music suffers from the preachiness, from the poor lyrics, and the tinny piano and dreary composition
Morrissey channeled his best bono impression for that song, it is truly awful and not a good song
>>
I Know It's Over is their masterpiece imo
