Made up a practice schedule. I also use a rng generator to see which instrument I start with. I think that makes it more fun. The jam sessions for piano and guitar suck for now. I can still only do notes on guitar so sometimes it just feels like I'm playing bass still. Im super stiff when playing but if I try and get "loose" I'm sloppy. Lots of work to be done

>>127589704
No i have 3. Bass, piano and guitar. The numbers are the order I do things. So I start with 15 minutes of scales, then I play songs i know for 15, do book work for 15 then I jam. For jamming I'll either use a YouTube video backing track or I'll turn on my drum machine. So its 3 hours but I don't do it all at 3 at once. I will do 1 hour at a time though.

The Fender Stratocaster is the perfect guitar.
It has the most hits recorded.
It is the shape people see in their mind when you say electric guitar.
It has the most versatility.
It has the best cleans.

It was nice honestly, I could do it again but it wouldn’t be a Strat this time. I’d have a hard time selling now because I’ve narrowed my guitars down to ones I actually enjoy playing rather than just buying ones that were good deals or filled gaps in sounds I wanted. It’s definitely more than needed and full of redundancies but I don’t care, 20 years of playing I know what I like and these are what I like. I’d be content with just one Tele if I absolutely needed to narrow it down to one, but idk which Tele honestly
>>127590313
Ranked most played to least played but the white Tele is new so of course it’s going to get a #1 slot. Teles and the Fano are #1. Red Mustang is at the bottom simply because if I’m playing a Mustang I’d rather play the poopoo color one. Sentimentality wise the bottom left Strat is #1 though

Having not just a decent or good guitar, but a very nice guitar that plays consistently after a proper setup is a huge motivator to play and progress. saw a nice guitar on fb marketplace but it had a hole like this one on the top side. thought it was for making it electroacoustic, but seems this is more of a deliberate choice by luthiers. does this improve or worsen the sound?

wat. but you can hear the guitar while playing already
anyway, a second question, this one more general. the same guitar from marketplace looks like this from behind. the wood markings seem to be symmetrical (and I know cheap guitars are made with single covers, while sole are made with halves glued together), but are the misaligned lines in the middle tell-tale clues of shoddy craftsmanship? or is this irrelevant when trying to find a good guitar?

Looks great! Only heads up is to be watch out for tendinitis (3 hours a day spread out should be fine, though). Injury is the mortal enemy of physical progress.

And not to give you extra stuff to do, but have you considered adding drums to your instruments? That kind of rhythmic understanding will improve all the tonal instruments, and limb independence helps both keys and guitar. Just something to consider, since you have all this energy to practice and grow!

>>127592863
A good amount of Squiers have lower output ceramic pickups compared to their alnico Fender counterparts. Also if you're looking at an HH PRS you should compare it to another HH.
>>
>>127592898
I’ve got some pretty hot vintage alnico’s, but they’re SSS.
Idk I just probably need to roll with it and maybe I’ll end up with a cool tone close enough to what I’m trying for.
I do tend to over think things.
>>
>>127592919
Late but you aren't overthinking it, HH and SSS are very different and you ought to have one of each. Whether that's a Strat/Gibson/Prs is up to you.
>>
>>127590520
honestly all of the fender style guitars just look old to me. like some shit rolling stones would play. no one uses those any more. people still use les pauls and the ibanez shape 7 string things, and in the 80s they used flying vs to shred but fender guitars just look old and forgotten
>>

learn to do it yourself brother, they sell pre cut/radiused fret wire. Just need a couple of tools that you can get for dirt cheap on aliexpress
>>

>>

Gotta start somewhere. Third world guitar techs most likely arent using quality tools. Fret cutting pliers/tang nippers are really the only high quality tool you need for fretwork.
>>
>>127593189
Just because thirdies have less options, doesn't mean you should limit yourself as well, if one-off items are expensive you can always sell it down the line, to me specifically.

You can practice for 3 hours straight daily? Shiiiiet.

I started learning the piano recently as well. I'm 36. I keep thinking that I will need another few years to become proficient as I am on guitar. I want to reach the level where I can jam and come up with my own music. But that makes me realize that I'll be almost in my 40s. I so regret not learning all these instruments in my teens, so I could have had my 20s and onward making music and perhaps even with other people.

Are expensive guitars worth it?
There was a study done a few years ago that pit Stradivarius violins that cost millions vs newer violins that cost less and blindfolded, most players preferred the new ones
Same thing done with flutes
At what point does a guitar become more name and prestige and less instrument?

In the UK you can get a guitar with top end pick ups, FR, stainless steel frets, ebo fingerboard. All beautifully assembled/finished for £1000-1400.

Anything above £1400 is purely purchasing the name/prestige like fancy shoes or a handbag.

I mean classical fags to believe in a lot of snakeoil bullshit in general. Guitarists do as well, but not quite as much.
There are multiple aspects to a guitar.
Build quality, sound, features and playability mainly.

Are expensive guitars good? Yes mostly, however there are serious diminishing returns.
Sound is typically the first aspect to top out early. I'd say most professional guitarists will fail a blind study with guitar sounds after ~1000 dollar guitars, as long as they are the same general type. Anyone who thinks a 3000 or 4000 dollar guitar sounds generally better than a 1500 dollar guitar is retarded.

Build quality is the one that will go the farthest up, but I'd say it stops getting better at ~3000 dollars.
Until then you'll get more precise nut cuts, clean finish, better materials etc. and as a result easier setups, longer life etc.
However one could argue that you can achieve many of those things by just taking a slightly cheaper guitar to a skilled tech/luthier.
Anything above that you are now just paying for brand, name or specific looks, and nothing else.

Hell no. I break it up into 3 separate sessions throughout the day. One in the morning, one mid afternoon then last one later in the day around 6 or 7.

When they can see the logo.

Brand names in every industry aren't about the function of the product. Some will buy the name brand because they're the only option for specific goals, but most people buy emotionally and feel superior with a more expensive and better looking pile of crap.

Yes, he got that Strat prior to Rubber Soul and consistently played it and other Strats throughout his career until he died. He was given the Tele from Fender and only used it during the Get Back sessions and possibly a little while recording Abbey Road because he felt obliged to give it some use because it was a gift. He quickly gave the Tele to Delaney Bramlett and said it was the worst guitar he’d ever played. Delaney Bramlett used the Tele for the rest of his career until he sold it at auction where it was bought by George’s wife and restored back to original condition by Fender and it’s back in George’s estate.

All of the Fender offsets have sounds you cannot get with a Strat.

I bought 2 sets of the same strings and put them on both my guitars. But they feel great on one while feeling really bad on the other, to the point where I would prefer having the almost 1 year old strings I had on before

hello fa/gg/s, sorry for the lengthy post i just thought i'd ask for some direction.

i've been playing since i was like 14 (i'm 26) but i was always poor as dirt so i could never afford any equipment including guitars, until fairly recently that i now earn enough to save up for sumn nice. but since i never got to have new equipment in my mind, i don't really know what i should be looking for. i know i like the sound of strats a lot even though i still like the heavy sound of humbuckers, but that's just rough ideas and i'm not sure what alternatives and options i have. what should i try to pay attention to? i've seen many people doing the thing where they buy a great quality budget guitar and then upgrade the pickups, for example.

in case it helps, i play lots of classic hard rock like zeppelin and deep purple but lately i've been a lot into math rock-ish stuff. not really into metal.

A great amp or profiler is the biggest jump you can make in terms of sound, aside from getting good. A plank feels like a plank, but it can be improved and set up. A great rig makes even the worst guitars sound fun.

A Tele bridge pickup will do Zeppelin and math stuff extremely well. Highly reccomend one with a series mod, the Player II modified comes with it stock but it's a pretty easy mod to do on anything if you know what your doing.

My Epiphone Les Paul has hairline cracks in the finish going down from both sides of the nut. Online conversations only say to either "not buy it" of used guitars, "return to the factory" of new guitars, and "epi not worth getting fixed at a luthier"

What am I supposed to do with an old guitar that doesn't have warranty? Have some guy look at it quickly and diagnose it as not worth repairing? Just keep playing it until it potentially breaks when restringing?
>>
>>127597113
If you take it to a good luth and are willing to pay, they will fix it. It isn't really worth the cost to fix unless it's got some sentimental value to you.
>>
>>127597113
pic? they finish them with everything in place and the wood either shrunk around the nut or the nut took a hit and cracked the finish. i wouldn't worry about it depending on how the crack actually looks

not an issue unless the wood is also cracked underneath (its probably not) but have someone look it over
