We're back
>got ghosted againIt's a U.K. night tonight
>>127594863i know that feel, bro
>>127594814Why did Genesis go to such shit after Peter left? I wish they had stayed prog instead of making that Invisible Touch cancer

Which wind instrument is the king of prog rock?
>>127598565the flute is twice as prominent in 70s prog rock than the sax, barely a competition
>>127595300They only had one subpart album with Phil up front. Late 70s Genesis were still a great prog rock band and 80s Genesis were a great pop rock band.
>>127598584I prefer the sound of the flute in most circumstances, but it's nice when albums use both instruments for a variety of textures.
>>127598565the soprano sax
Listening to Atomic Rooster.
when do they stop tuning their instruments and start playing the music?
>>127598705https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G76EjCRam1E
>>127599417why are people ok with this but still bitch endlessly over the improv on moonchild
>>127600305because Larks is actually great, you tasteless pleb
>>127598935great band, but not quite prog, is it? kind of like if Deep Purple was a power trio
>>127600305Because moonchild is shit while Larks takes some getting used to but is great
>>127600305Because Moonchild filters plebs
I THINK MOONCHILD SUCKS
It's 9/01/25
>>127601566That'll be in 4 months retard-kun...
>>127600441It's got some proggy moments.
>>127599417I like the Elemental Mix of Larks the most.
>>127600305Is this bait? Everything on Larks is phenomenal cohesive (if dissonant) music with a direction. Moonchild is a bunch of musicians. rubbing their dicks on their instruments for 10 minutes without regard for what anybody else is doing. There's a chance I may be a midwit who just doesn't *get* Moonchild, but I doubt it. Third by Soft Machine is how you properly do freeform music.
>>127594828You better be.
Whats your thoughts on Temple Fangs debut album??https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJDCOb2gNt4Just begun listening to it and I've been liking it a lot. They're in tune withother and swings out with solid rhythm and timely passages. Feels like a true progressive rock album from the 70s but naturally with a more modern sound.I did a search in the archives and there seem to be no talking about them whatsover. They've been playing live during the summer. Seems like a great band. Thoughts?
>>127607236>Feels like a true progressive rock album from the 70s but naturally with a more modern sound.that's like every second modern prog album
>>127607372can you recommend some?
>>127598935Their total genre switch on Made in England is baffling, but feels in line with some other rock bands at the time.
>>127599417Right when easy money starts, which justifies the rest of the album
>>127598565
>>127609222not windkys
>>127609587The wind does not hear

>>127609974>soullessYou will be if you follow your advice.
>>127609988I don't follow anyone's advice, I'm cool like that
>>127610161Not OP, but you really can't talk about "soul" when you're telling someone to kill themselves.
>>127609966sampling a wind instrument does not make it a wind instrument, you absolute retardkys
>>127610498Well maybe there's another possible solution to this conundrum
>>127610668Mellotron flues and windwinds are objectively better, so why does it matter?
>>127610769Then why did Ian McDonald still play a real one
I've heard Court, Poisedon and now Larks and still feel like I don't get KC
>>127610769Windwinds and flutes? That shit is GAY. You have to BLOW the instrument! Mellotron IS objectively better. It can be everything the woodwind and flute is and MORE. It's an ORCHESTRA at your fingertips!
>>127610769>>127610921>windwindskys

>>127611014When you're shit posting, you can't help but make a mistake because you're laughing too hard.

>>127594814I am listening to KC in chronological order, finished Red yesterday. Why is it so highly regarded? I feel like both Larks and Starless were more creative and just generally interesting. Is there something I'm missing?
>>127614649The powers that be have been taking down, but I've been scouring for a torrent. Let me know if anyone finds anything.
>>127609587Wind is the movement of air. Sound is pressure waves propagating though a medium (air). All instruments are wind instruments.

>>127622014How do you cum from fucking scorpions? Matter of fact, how do you even fuck scorpions? Hold two of them together and slide in between them? I imagine you still have to watch out for the pointy bits... ouch!
>>127616811The devil's in the details. There's nothing super dynamic and bombastic about the tracks, but the nuances are viscerally good. The first time you listen to it, all you hear is unnoteworthy and inoffensive, you could argue even unusually accessible, at a surface level. But once you are well-versed in the discography, the quality starts shining through in the little things. It's a little bit like Godbluff in that regard.
>>127622049Rock You Like a Hurricane is better than 99% of Crimsons meandering improv jazz bullshit
>>127623809Too bad White Dove sucks hard compared to the majestic originalhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwhGj80nkys
>>127623925Doesn't suck as bad as MoonchildIn fact Moonchild is so bad I'd put it in contention against Dance Monkey for worst song of all time
>>127619822I first heard of Stereolab in a Magma thread on the ProgressiveEars forum.

>>127624575me when i listen to Larks and NOT Moonchild
Moonchild makes Providence seem good.
If Moonchild didn't exist, we would never have had Moonman
MOONMAN MOONMAN CAN'T YOU SEE
https://youtu.be/PLID1bz2X_M
Moonchild makes Requiem seem good.
the big problem with Moonchild is not the song itself it's just a lame stupid filler track on an otherwise classic album, but it kind of fits the vibe of ITCOTCK so that, despite being jarring, it doesn't feel out of place on a full listenthe real problem is that, because it has a place on such an incredible prog masterpiece, it's held as iconic and disrupting just for being therethe band has made other jams and free form improvisations, as loose as they could be, but they were far more interesting than fucking moonchildcheck SABB or the live recordings from that era, and you'll see how much of an improvisation powerhouse KC could bemoonchild is just an aimless stupid filler track made maybe in a rush to put out the album or as a joke, who knows...but autistic retards overrate the fuck out of it as if it was some sort of classicand that includes the king of autistic retards himself, Robert Fripp, who shoved those poor improvs such as moonchild wherever he could as some sort of testament to his own creative prowess (regardless to the fact that he was the worst improviser in every formation of the band)Providence is an example of this: what a poor, shitty, pointless, stupid and anti-climatic song. The moonchild of Red

So Lake and Sinfield were the true geniuses right
>>127625391This but unironically
>>127625506McDonald, Giles and Sinfield were brilliantMcDonald in particular was responsible for all the woodwinds, keyboards, mellotron... everything that made the sound so grand, unique and complex. He was also the main songwriterand Giles is a really underrated drummer, his work in the debut is out of this worldLake was a competent bassist with a very nice voice
