They only had one subpart album with Phil up front. Late 70s Genesis were still a great prog rock band and 80s Genesis were a great pop rock band.

I prefer the sound of the flute in most circumstances, but it's nice when albums use both instruments for a variety of textures.

Is this bait? Everything on Larks is phenomenal cohesive (if dissonant) music with a direction. Moonchild is a bunch of musicians. rubbing their dicks on their instruments for 10 minutes without regard for what anybody else is doing.

There's a chance I may be a midwit who just doesn't *get* Moonchild, but I doubt it. Third by Soft Machine is how you properly do freeform music.

Whats your thoughts on Temple Fangs debut album??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJDCOb2gNt4

Just begun listening to it and I've been liking it a lot. They're in tune withother and swings out with solid rhythm and timely passages. Feels like a true progressive rock album from the 70s but naturally with a more modern sound.

I did a search in the archives and there seem to be no talking about them whatsover. They've been playing live during the summer. Seems like a great band. Thoughts?

The devil's in the details. There's nothing super dynamic and bombastic about the tracks, but the nuances are viscerally good. The first time you listen to it, all you hear is unnoteworthy and inoffensive, you could argue even unusually accessible, at a surface level. But once you are well-versed in the discography, the quality starts shining through in the little things. It's a little bit like Godbluff in that regard.

>>
the big problem with Moonchild is not the song itself
it's just a lame stupid filler track on an otherwise classic album, but it kind of fits the vibe of ITCOTCK so that, despite being jarring, it doesn't feel out of place on a full listen
the real problem is that, because it has a place on such an incredible prog masterpiece, it's held as iconic and disrupting just for being there
the band has made other jams and free form improvisations, as loose as they could be, but they were far more interesting than fucking moonchild
check SABB or the live recordings from that era, and you'll see how much of an improvisation powerhouse KC could be
moonchild is just an aimless stupid filler track made maybe in a rush to put out the album or as a joke, who knows...
but autistic retards overrate the fuck out of it as if it was some sort of classic
and that includes the king of autistic retards himself, Robert Fripp, who shoved those poor improvs such as moonchild wherever he could as some sort of testament to his own creative prowess (regardless to the fact that he was the worst improviser in every formation of the band)
Providence is an example of this: what a poor, shitty, pointless, stupid and anti-climatic song. The moonchild of Red

McDonald, Giles and Sinfield were brilliant
McDonald in particular was responsible for all the woodwinds, keyboards, mellotron... everything that made the sound so grand, unique and complex. He was also the main songwriter

Lake was a competent bassist with a very nice voice

You should check out P.O.N. if you haven't already, since you're looking for brutal prog reccs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSWb9mNn9J4
>>
>>127648955
Brutal prog emerged from the Japanese zeuhl scene and taking ideas from the heavier aspects of Magma's; music but not all zeuhl is brutal prog and not all brutal prog is zeuhl.

Brutal prog's just a catch-all for avant-prog that pulls from shit like noise rock, free jazz, hardcore punk, no-wave, extreme metal/grindcore and the like.

Zeuhl's just a combination of progressive rock, jazz-rock and opera that generally has very downtuned bass grooves and rhythmic drumming, and wild, all over the place vocals that range from chanting, opera, shouting and shit
>>
>>127648955
>>127649015
Plus, the Zeuhl influence in brutal prog largely went away in the 1990s when brutal prog appeared in America. American bands were more interested in how technical, mathy and abrasive Ruins were rather than Ruin's zeuhl roots.
Flying Luttenbachers does have a De Futura cover though
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HtUC_CrR_A

There are still zeuhl brutal prog groups in America and Europe but it's not as pronounced or as common as it was in Japan.

I'm not entirely sure which member it is, but he plays keyboard so it might be Neil Durant or maybe Mike Holmes. It would be a lot funnier if it was Holmes. He mentions being 60 in one comment but I think if it was Holmes he would have to be rounding down and if it's Durant he'd have to be rounding up, so who knows.

>What don't you like about them?
Particularly Cedric's vocals, but that's not to say that I don't like his vocals entirely, just certain songs I can't really get into because of them. I listened to De-Loused in the Comatorium earlier this spring, and I did enjoy it, but the reason why I put them off for so long until now was particularly because of the vocal passages. I'm getting back into them again and I'm listening to their back catalog more.

Ackchyually, picrel is their debut album, called Fang Temple. It's a bit more jammy but it does contain my favourite track of theirs (No the Skull). Lifted from the Wind is stronger as an overall album though, it sounds a lot more mature.
I've seen them live 2 times so far, very solid band. Their strongest point is the interplay between the 2 guitarists imo. Briefly talked to them after the second show, very friendly dudes, probably gonna see em again later this year.
