>In his searching, Ashley distorted his voice to the point of granular gesture on Automatic Writing. (Save for a few moments of clarity, it is only possible to understand what he says by reading the transcription that accompanies the release.) In a rare example of an echo being more legible than its origin, the emotional resonance of his mouth sounds is underscored by a whispered French translation of his involuntary speech performed by long-time collaborator Mimi Johnson. The faraway melody of an organ and the murmurings of a Polymoog, the latter evoking a crate of old-fashioned milk bottles jiggling against each other in transit, hold the space for the two voices. Layered together, these four sonic elements—or characters in an opera, as Ashley saw them—have a proto-ASMR quality, textural and sensual
I'm so curious about this, are there more proto(ish)-ASMR music?

I want to introduce you guys to this French dude.
Jean-Louis Costes
I don't know much about him beside the fact that he was in Irreversible (2002) by Gaspar Noe (the movie with infamous rape scene). He was the guy who fisted his ass in the movie. Outside of that, he made DIY music and DIY punk as well. He also made an album where the cover is literally him covered in shit and every songs in that album are about scat.

if it's on YT, it's not rare no matter what.

I had a record back in the late-80s, bought it at some record store in KCMO, anyway it was stupid cross between anal cunt and crank yankers. I will never find this group and I cannot remember the name of the band or the album.

Yes. The most obscure music will always be some casette tape you got at a basement show somewhere from a band who broke up 2 months later and never officially released anything. I had a few. The only one I remember the contents of was band that sounded kind of like Bathory but with lyrics about wizards and shit.

The digital equivalent might not be Youtube but the old mp3.com archives and the rabbit hole that can lead down. There's a lot of total garbage and some absolute bangers I'm happy I found by clicking around.

I dunno about that, I've found some rare stuff with sub-100 views from years and years ago that only exist on Youtube because it was auto-generated by some corporation absorbing another and the jillion tracks they 'owned.'

Weirdo australian noise pop. I have a cassette tape release from this artist on Night People Records that is so rare that it hasn't even been listed to the discogs page. There's about ten releases I think and only one of the four albums is on youtube and I haven't found the others anywhere:
