The two most recent country albums I've listened to are Mike Love - Country Love (unreleased but amazing) and Glen Campbell - Oh Happy Day (Country gospel)

I find myself going back to The SteelDrivers over and over, especially their older stuff with Chris Stapleton on vocals.

Steeldrivers were great. Chris' songs and vocals injected an outlaw edge into bluegrass which is not always common.

>>
>>127648444
Saw Chris earlier this year. He gave an incredible show. Didn't know he did bluegrass, too. I'll have to give a listen.
>>
>>127648465

The first thing you need to do is learn how to sing.

The second thing you need to do is learn how to play guitar.

The third thing is how to write songs.

The fourth is how to mix your tracks, or at least how to hire someone who knows how to do it already.

But other than that, you're good to go!
>>
>>127648941
I saw in an interview with Chris that before he started recording his music, all of his revenues from songwriting went towards funding him to tour around with The SteelDrivers.... imagine that. He's a bluegrass artist at heart it seems.
>>
>>127649162
He even carried over the Steeldrivers vocal harmony style into his solo work with his wife providing the female accompaniment. It's a weird combination on paper but it works.
>>
>>127648465
i was about ready to call this garbage until i listened to it. you're actually pretty good, anon. that second track you posted has the makings of an old-school country track. keep it up!

Here's some tapes I snagged at an antique mall, all of them operational with no signs of quality decay. I expect I'll play the Freddy Fender one into the ground, he's an underrated classic and the whole tape is a banger.

Totally unfamiliar with the genre, caught Alison Krauss (who I had never heard of) on Rick Beato’s channel which led me to her albums with Robert Plant which I ended up loving, which led me to this latest Union Station album which I also ended up loving

Kind of a palate cleanser from all the gloomy rock I’m immersed in, even the sad songs are melancholy and still beautiful instead of gloomy

Now I want to go watch O Brother, Where Art Thou again

Any pointers on where to go from here appreciated

>>127667355

I recommend starting with Turmoil & Tinfoil, Home, Renewal, and Highway Prayers by Billy Strings. He's the most popular bluegrass star today for a reason, and he's also early enough in his career that you have potentially decades of fandom left to enjoy afterwards if you like what you hear.

Molly Tuttle's taking things in a pretty new direction with her latest record, so I recommend you start with Crooked Tree and City of Gold if you wanna get started, and then try So Long Little Miss Sunshine if you find yourself a serious fan and wanna see where she takes herself. Greensky Bluegrass is another worth getting into, and will have a new record out on Halloween of this year.

As for newer acts? Shadowgrass is getting some buzz. I just listened to their latest album and quite enjoyed what I heard.
>>

Yes. It's my second-favorite instrument behind the guitar. Would love to upgrade my model, but even cheap ones play and sound well enough if you see they're taken care of and set up properly.

https://youtu.be/P85HmYBJ0m4

just found out from 1900-1940 the Rockefellers along with some other people as a part of public school and mass education went to Appalachia and told them their traditional music was evil and would confiscated fiddles and other instruments and kids weren't allowed to do traditional dances or singing with the intention of destroying the oral tradition and making the kids function in mass society better.

of course this is following the period from like 1870-1900 when most appalachians land and privately held farms was stolen from them by northern companies and many people were basically enslaved

very weird cultural genocide went on with these people that no one seems to talk about, anyway good way had some recordings of some people from it at least even if the tradition itself is dead
>>
>>127676420
Do you prefer clawhammer ot three-finger?
>>
>>127681865
Yeah, there were always varying degrees of waspy snobbery to the “moral uplift” campaigns of that time. The movement to alleviate poverty and promote education often not-so-subtly characterized itself as “civilizing” certain peoples. They were basically using the same rationale for colonialism but in the white man’s own back yard.
Whats interesting though is that country music as we know it really grew out of the old-time folk revival which occurred in the 1910s and 20s, as urbanization and migration further obscured the cultural heritage of the rural population, and there rose a demand for the traditional mountain music that the old folks were nostalgic for. All of the first hillbilly music stars were geezers because the younger generations had forgotten.

She was absolutely insane y'all. Her live performance brings her music to an entirely new plane. The entire crowd chanting when she played Fox Hunt was enough to make the ticket worth it, let alone the entire rest of the set. Seeing her live is an essential part of the Sierra experience I believe, the poster is kind of ugly to me but that concert was so good I'll proudly display this thing on positive association alone. And if you don't care about that I got this Emmylou/Ronstatd/Dolly cassette
>>
>>127679424
Vincent Neil Emerson is the closest by far. I'd also recommend Cole Chaney and Ian Noe but they're a little too dreary compared to Cobb's tendency to be jaunty. Maybe Luke Bell

Start going to bluegrass festivals and offer to dance with ladies there. So long as you clean up nice and have a good time by yourself then they'll probably take you up on it.
