>Gives Tele a forearm and back cut like they should've had 50 years ago
>Stacks the coils so they don’t HMMMMMMMMM anymore, also should have been standard decades ago
That'll be $1900.
>>
If you’re going to drop tune, at least try this.
>buy a 5 string guitar
>or if you can’t find one, just take off the 1st string of a regular 6 string guitar
>calculate string tension to your liking and swap out the strings with a custom set
>tune the bottom 4 strings like a regular guitar and tune the 2nd string in unison with the 3rd string for chorus effect on leads
>for example: C-G-C-F-F
Try it out. See if it works.

Any of you guys ever play in a band playing music you don’t really like? I’ve been playing with my wife and some friends of ours (also a husband and wife) playing an alt country kind of stuff and while it’s fun making music with friends it just isn’t my style of music. I play guitar, my wife sings, the guy friend plays electric violin or the occasional guitar when two guitars are needed, his wife plays drums, and their teenage daughter plays bass. It’s fun but I just have a hard time enjoying that music. Alt country isn’t my thing, I tell myself it’s kind of Wilco inspired to make it easier to digest for myself but still. I don’t want to quit because it’s my wife and our friends but I also am getting burned out forcing myself to enjoy this music. We play the occasional gig around town every couple of months and we’re going to be recording this weekend. I enjoy hanging out with and playing music with them but it just isn’t up my alley. I doubt they’ll continue with another guitarist if I quit so I don’t want to be the one to walk away and ruin the fun for everyone else so I’ve just sucked it up and kept playing. I’ve tried to get my wife to play a Pixies Black Francis/Kim Deal inspired kind of music with both of us singing but she’s not into the more loud and abrasive stuff like that like I am.
And no we don’t do any gay swinger wife swap cuck shit, my wife and I are happily married and monogynous and aren’t into any of that weird sex shit and neither are our friends (or their daughter).

I'm about to order some compensated saddles for the butterscotch tele. Should I go with Wilkinsons? I'm hesitant about the Gotohs cause some people end up having to shim the neck, and I don't feel like doing that.

I'm gonna have to take it to a shop eventually. It needs a fret leveling, there's a few buzzing frets I want resolved. That can wait. Other that that, it was a good deal. Still trying to figure out good bridge/neck pickup heights.
>>
>>127694928
I’ve only used Gotohs and haven’t had any issues needing to shim the neck. If you do need to shim the neck that isn’t a big deal, just stick some card stock in the inner edge of the neck pocket (I use old topps Pokemon and DBZ cards from when I was a kid). I’ve heard great things about the Wilkinsons too. Check out the Music City Bridge Tele saddles, those are going to be my next set I buy to check out because I like everything Joe Glaser does.

>ever play in a band playing music you don’t really like
As soon as it stops being fun, it's over for me personally. Whether that's due to music, relationships, etc.
>alt country
I had an old roommate that always pushed me to do just this. "Just go play country in frat bars on the weekend and make a ton of cash", and he was right, but it sounded soul sucking then and it sounds even worse now. Just do what makes you happy man. Don't let it kill your love of playing.

>>127694918
are you playing it straight, meaning what they want you to play? you could try injecting your influences into the music, that how a lot of legends were born. for example, tony rice brought a lot of jazz chords and voice leadings to bluegrass because he liked jazz. i suppose you could say he was just a protege of clarence white and he was certainly the first to admit but still

Using Rsmods makes it a whole lot easier, depending on your interface it should just be plug and play now.
Having said that after 3 days of using an interface the game audio started crackling out of nowhere and the game started crashing for some bullshit reason, ended up deleting some files and it works again.

Playing with my wife and genuine friends like them makes me happy but I’d be more happy playing the kind of stuff I play on my own time.
>>127695087
Something heavier but not too heavy, something a little dissonant, maybe something a little more funky. My playing is very inspired by guitarists like Tom Verlaine/Richard Lloyd (Television), David Byrne/Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads), Black Francis/Joey Santiago (Pixies), stuff like that. Late 70s new wave-ish and pre Nirvana alternative with some surf inspired lead stuff cuz I love Dick Dale.
>>127695166
With them I try to keep it simple, yeah. I don’t play power chords, I’ll play cowboy chords when it’s absolutely necessary, and try not to use standard E or A shape barre chords. I like playing C shape or G shape barres and I like alternate chord shapes, I play a lot of 6/7/9/11/diminished kind of jazzy sounding triad stuff. I use my pinky a lot when chording. I could add a lot of that stuff in but I also don’t want it to take away from what the rest of them want sound wise.
>>127695282
It’s really not up their alley. It’s very “normie” feeling where the playing I do in my own time isn’t. The guy on violin is into like 70s prog and we can goof off and have fun but he’s also firmly in the country camp with the girls.

No. I fall asleep to aviation disaster or shipwreck videos, Mayday air disaster, green dot aviation, captain Steve, airliner designs, oceanliner designs. Brick immorter, etc. I try to find channels without annoying background music and neutral deep male voiceovers. Something about hundreds of people dying horrifically while I’m lying in a comfy bed under the covers is so much more soothing than someone fixing guitars, but to each their own. I found a new channel called boring stories to fall asleep to, but that nigger talks for like 4 hours straight.

>>
>>127695598
ain't nobody saying all that. just saying he doesn't have to play 4 on the floor ad perpetuam
>>
>>127695678
Yeah because you’re a jazz nerd. Normies dislike jazz and don’t want to hear your experimental version of a song they’ve listened to hundreds of times before. You’re playing covers, you’re not in an original band that has a license to remake something classic.
>>
>>127695457
If I get into Clarence White then I’ll succumb to the urge to get a B bender installed in one of my Teles, that’s a dangerous suggestion brother
>>
>>127695691
I never said anything about Jazz, you're shadowboxing. There's no shortage of popular covers that had major depatures from the original btw, normies love it.

thicker strings actually give better tone but you have to play them harder to get it and that can really kill speed. i go with 12s on my acoustic

it's crazy how rehearing one song just a couple of times eats up 20 minutes of practice in the blink of an eye
>>
>>127692695

Yep. This is a Trad II, Alder body, Pure Vintage pickups, and the build quality blows the fuck out of any American Femder offset from the last decade. I can absolutely manhandle this thing trem and all and it stays in tune for days. It was shipped over with the neck off, I put it and the stock strings on it and it was perfectly intonated, action .060” with no shim needed. I wouldn’t trade this for any other Jag vintage or otherwise, it’s legitimately flawless.

the magnetic field is picking up the same frequencies just farther away. side by side could pick up different frequencies because they're receiving a signal at different lengths of the strings. more bass farther away from the bridge more mids near the bridge etc
>>
Does anyone even change out their tele's neck pick up, sure I can order one off sweetwater or something but I never see them in guitar stores or on used market

>>127697437
It's possible to design a "humbucker" such that it has similar frequency response to a single coil. Frequency response is what gives a pickup its character. PRS talks about this
>>
Can someone please tell me what's up with my brain. I can improv fairly well and come up with decent riffs on the fly when I'm jamming with my friends (three-piece, I'm guitar plus drummer and bassist), but outside of that I am not a creative person. I never have song ideas come to me when I'm showering or sleeping or whatever like so many great writers talk about. I have never understood why this is. Any psychologists in here?
>>
>>127697619
i'm the same way. i'm better at creatively spinning something else than i am coming up with something completely original. i think most people are or else people wouldn't say the great artists stole from other great artists
>>
>>127697619
Some people simply aren't songwriters no matter how hard they try, I believe creativity is something that can be encouraged but can't be taught
>>
buy a fender, swap out the neck and place a squier decal on the head stock instead, sell for 5×it's total price
>>
>>127697677
I agree with you but I wonder why I come up with (seemingly) original stuff when jamming. Am I apeing other people's shit without realizing? Am I more so putting puzzle pieces together with chords/scales based on what my drummer and bassist are doing? We usually start with some random progression and I alternate between riffs and lead on top of it.
>>
>>127697699
Why not record what you play then see if you can take bits and pieces to form a more complete thing, I believed this is how the old breeds like hendrix did it

2.25" or thinner.
>semi hollow
That's murky. You have centerblocks, centerposts, trestle bracing, and chambering. Strictly speaking, a hollow-body guitar does not have a physical connection between the top and back other than the rims.

i don't know who that is, maybe he should buy an ad

Sweetie... I would go to them and explain them this, or even show them this text. Tell them you would not feel good quitting, but you don't feel good playing music you don't really connect with. Maybe ask if they can split the difference. Maybe say, "hey, how about we each get to pick a new song we like, and replace them in the setlist, replacing the 5 least favored songs (by anonymous vote). Obviously don't do exactly this, but the idea of compromise that could lead to something better for all. You run the risk of it being even worse, though. I would say try to communicate this as simply as can be. If they care about your enjoyment they will probably intuitively understand. Maybe it's even you're own fault for not being clear of your level of enjoyment from the start.

it's not the offset per se that attracts me, but the availability. the yamaha is at a pawnshop a couple streets away from my apartment. the tagima is on facebook marketplace also within walking distance

yamahas are prestigious. people will likely laugh at your for a non-american fender but never a yamaha

not exactly im just not an autist so having conversations WITH the other people rather than with yourself generally yields better results both in bands and talking to women in general

boomers like to shit their pants over mediocre guitarists in every thread. BB was good but he doesn't make the brand better he just played the guitars they gave him so he could keep more money to buy cheeseburgers. a true american hero

>Like a prick, you are having second thoughts about playing lead tonight. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with you. And the fact that you've got "Hue hue hue" written down on the headstock of your instrument, and the fact that I've got "Fender Jazzmaster" written on mine... should precipitate your shrinking.

you should practice more and let your playing do the talking

well, shit, it is, lel. and unless they're storing the amp elsewhere, seems they're only selling the guitar with a strap. but it's still a yamaha, right? surely even in their cheap models they must have some standards, hopefully unlike chinesium fenders

Dude grow a fucking spine. You deserve to be just as happy as everyone else in life. Stand up for what you actually want. Nodding and gritting your teeth only works for so long until you have a blow up and everyone thinks you're an asshole for not just having a conversation like an adult.

yes, i mean your post reads like a sponsor at a men’s neeting giving tough love to a newcomer. sincerely. you can take that as positive or neutral, i don’t mean it as a corny insult. it would be a thing where later you’d share with the group, ‘ya know i get kinda high on myself and think i know everything. and that’s when i take a step back and look in the mirror and recognize i’m only giving advice to myself. and my desire to help someone is my desire to help myself, and be helped by my higher power.’

chat i for the life of me cant figure out tzarbombahs void of personality like rn, for a not-nonsensical chord progression i have it mapped out as this but i cant figure out the last chord, im pretty sure it has a B as its root note but if its key is A major i cant think of any chord like that

5th fret c shape f
5th fret g shape c
4th fret e shape g#

what's the cheapest amerishit (jaguar, mustang, caster) that i can buy just to see how the shape feels? I associate these shits with old ahh drug addict niggas like keith richards that made terrible pre-80s "music"

the shape isn't cool
it looks old and dated
it doesn't look ergonomic
>>
>>127698614
AmPro Jaguars go for 1200-1300. They're super ergonomic sitting, standing it's only slightly better than a Strat, unless you have one of those heavy ones, then it's worse.
>>

What is modern in your eyes?
No one even gave a shit about this until yesterday. Same with music taste. All kinds of millenials and gen x listened to a mix 60s rock and newer shit. Then suddenly zoomers are desperate to erase everything and act like wiggers.

Thanks pals! I learned the E, G, and A chords last night. The sound on the amp is so sick, trying to get that crunchy 80s thrash sound though and I feel like its missing something. Apperantly I am supposed to get something called a tubescreamer? But LambChopper is using something called a ZW-44. Not sure which I am supposed to get.
