I can kinda see where he was coming from with the whole 'Metallica is a unit at the very top of the game and sideprojects is beneath them' thing, while at the same time his personal life is unraveling and he's getting paranoid that a member of his other 'family' is not being loyal. He really should’ve reached a compromise with Jason where he let him write and produce other music so long as he’s not a member, but the management that pushed them to make a new record and wanted to squeeze as many shekels out of them as possible should also be blamed. If Jaymz went to rehab and got his shit sorted out while Jason got his neck healed and kicked the addiction to painkillers, the story could've turned out very different in a good way.
