Am I Wry? No is such an aspirational tune, so well-written. what a special band

I listened to Mew recently (I pop them on every so often) and their music is so beautiful, Am I Wry? No still hits after so many years.

Havent listened to the new album yet, glad to see a Mew enjoyer though

i saw them supporting martin grech in 2001, never heard of them before but they blew me away, bought their t-shirt and the only CDs they had at the merch stand which was the singles for Am I Why? No and She Came Home for Christmas and had to wait months for Frengers to come out to hear the rest of the songs again. Still love that album to death.

so jealous, i was tempted to fly to europe to see their farewell shows. they're one of those bands that just gradually grew on me until one day i realized they were among my favorite bands. you know, you catch yourself singing along to every melody
>>
>>127706132
That's awesome. That must be the ideal way to be introduced to one of your favorite bands.

I first heard them from a jumbo list of random recs in a forum when I was young a long time ago now. A lot of insanely good music in those recs that I still listen to and appreciate, funny how impactful it is to rediscover that music. Listening to their new material or even finding that they haven't made an album since, it feels like visiting a shrine.

In spirit of this... give me a rec or two brother. Pick some favs and don't worry about genre I've heard em all. I'll have a listen some time

Mew Enjoyers hit me with some recs
>>
No more stories... is their best. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love their earlier work, but no more stories is their peak before their downfall. The songs just have this glue to them that seems to be missing from their earlier works.

bat for lashes - two suns (track to try: daniel)
thee more shallows - more deep cuts (track to try: monkey vs shark)
the zephyrs - when the sky comes down it comes down on your head (track to try: setting sun)
my vitriol - finelines (track to try: always your way)
martin grech - open heart zoo (track to try: open heart zoo)

this album is how i found them, i logged onto youtube one day when i was 14 and saw "cartoons and macreme wounds" on the front page under my recommendations. at the time it was a new album, it floored me. still my favorite of theirs, i agree. "Silas and the Magic Car" really gets at something

>>127706658
without thinking too much about genre these are some recent faves, would love some recs from you as well as a mew enjoyer!
>WMD - Peripheral

>Crash of Rhinos - Luck Has a Name

Right on, i'll try them all.

>>127706736
If I tried to give you proper recs I would be here for days so instead I'm just going to share one of my favorite bands: Say Anything.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZGRzdywXqs
The music trends fairly upbeat so I don't know if it's your thing but to me it's emo caviar and has some of the most evocative lyrics I've ever heard, his writing is truly heart in hand. (It was a trip to come back to this song as a grown-up and realize what it's about)

I really dig the sound of these, particularly Crash of Rhinos, thank you for sharing. I was kind of blindsided by the fact that they're English. Lol. Very interesting

comfy thread

>Say Anything
that album is formative for me, even now i notice new little guitar flourishes whenever i listen, super impressive. never got much into anything after (or before) Is A Real Boy but man that album is special. glad you liked crash of rhinos! been obsessed lately. they had two bassists which is interesting as well

Comforting Sounds is one of the best songs of all time

I really respect how much of himself he's able to put into his art, it's all uniquely Bemis and I admire his work so much.

I knew I was taking a risk with that rec... Here's a couple others.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agmKa_CON9k

Here's a random one, Evil Bee by Menomena:

Risking another rec by suggesting Massive Attack.

This thread made me realize that my library hasn't really expanded much since the old days. A lot of it is considered classic /mu/core and it was hard to find anything to share with you. I appreciate the recs, feel free to drop a few more if you feel like it.

Great band, shame their final album was their weakest
Is anyone gonna see them on final tour?

>>127712396
also Louise Louisa. One of the best songs of all time.
>>
>>127713274
i saw Wavves last year, was super fun, i had actually never really listened to them before that but this album was a nice one. never heard of Menomena this sounds very cool. when i was a youngin' i never noticed how much krautrock had influenced the indie scene, i can hear bits of it here. i haven't listened to Massive Attack in ages actually though they are great

digging deeper, here's a couple if you're interested!
Dwaal Troupe

Campbell

Campbell, the ending goes hard, I like it. Thank you for these. Do you have a library somewhere?

I'm glad you saw Wavves, that's awesome, I wasn't expecting that. I can't leave you with just 1 rec, here's Holy Ghost!. You will fuck with this for sure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ1QeL1IGdc

And if you've heard Holy Ghost!, I have something that I bet is under your radar and another one of my all-time favorite bands. I hope you appreciate them as much as I do.

holy ghost and hidden cameras are both new to me! been listening to passion pit and toro y moi a lot lately so holy ghost is definitely hitting nice as adjacent sound. will dig in more but wanted to reply before thread (god forbid) kicks the can

I can recommend VOLA if you like alt metal and djent, they are also Danish and were definitely influenced by them
https://youtu.be/zFv2tt8dNo0?si=0REkHbzWTRl0WVi7

They also have a few softer songs

A band I like to pair with Holy Ghost is Hot Chip. I love Toro, haven't listened to him in a long while is there an album you recommend?
>>
>>127721593
they just don't make band names like that anymore do they!
for toro y moi, Causers of This is one of my favorite albums of all time but it's also the only album of his i really like that much. after a breakup a few years ago i would drive around and blast the track "Minors" it hit really good
>>
>>127722105
I vibed a lot with Outer Peace, it's the only album of his I've listened to. I'll pop on Causers of This probably today. I briefly heard like a minute of a recent album and it sounded a bit different so I'm curious.

I'm sure this thread will still be here for a few days but just wanted to say it was nice to share a moment with you and everyone below the post... Reminiscing and vibing with people who enjoy music is really the place to be.

>>127705670
I always thought Frengers was a retarded sounding word. Album is really good though so it gets a pass.
