The truth is that many modern bands are better than ancient fossils, that although helped establish genres, revolutionize and develop styles, are now dated, and out of touch. They are highly praised for being classic pioneers, but MCR is way better than the Beatles, Velvet Underground, or King Crimson, PTV is at least as good as the rolling stones, but boomers don't want their childhood idols disrespected... ^_^"
