I feel like every artist starts with some idealistic ideas about how the world should function. They want to make a difference, so they start making art. But then at some point they realize something - 95% of the society are normies, so if they want to make it big, they HAVE TO appeal to normies. And those ideals? Well, usually through the process of growing up they see that most of them weren't as genius as they thought they were. Then the choice is simple - start making normie music for extreme normies, or stick to the (potentially stupid) views and die completely forgotten with a box full of unpaid bills. So what they do is they start making normie music that sells the normies the fantasy of belonging to some subculture without actually expecting anything from them - while normies don't like actually changing their ways, they secretly wish they were somehow special. And "castrated subculture" is exactly what allows them to fulfill that wish without actually having them leave the comfort zone.

I unironically recommend furries. No normie will ever touch that shit with a two-meter pole, which means that the subculture will truly stay a subculture. You might not like it - and frankly, I dislike many aspects of furries - but that's the closest you will ever get to a big-scale cultural movement that doesn't get normified.
