Now that the dust has settled, is it really their greatest album (as according to rateyourmusic.com)?

Yup.
>>
>>127718279
Yes. Along with Piper and AHM.

I actually think this album would be lacklustre out of context; meaning their whole catalogue in the 60s leading to pinnacle breakthrough in 1973 with DSotM provided this whole foundation and known entity that allowed WYWH to stand on the shoulders of a decade of hard work, and be appreciated as the unique and mature piece it is. I think if an unknown band had released this as their freshman effort it would have been beloved but nobody would ever put it above DSotM or even Animals.

But, since it is the band's 9th album (not counting soundtrack albums) and it settles into their catalogue of work in its own place, I can see it being their best-of-all-worlds album. Not my personal favourite but I wouldn't argue against it.

Also do we consider their core catalogue to end at The Wall or at The Final Cut? For me it's The Final Cut which is my personal all-time most magical PF album which is weird but whatever

nope, it will always be piper, second is Ummagumma

>>127718279
I prefer Animals

Their undisputed masterpiece is The Wall. This one is great though, although I'd take Dark Side over it myself

I'm so glad to see WallÆ’ags here for once. Somehow people always seem to be contrarian about The Wall and dismiss it as an insignificant Roger Waters fit, but it wasn't. It was the best musical combination of all of them and an insance stage show (and eventual film) that entirely just blew the rest of their already impressive productions away. It's a fucking masterpiece, and yes it's gritty and yearning and surreal, but god damn does it have potent passion and venom in it. It's an absolute one of a kind work, and somehow manages to be their most challenging and inaccessible work but also their most accessible. Brilliant shit.

Nothing can top The Wall.

people here don't like the wall because it perfectly describes the average 4channer (growing increasingly angrier and more delusional after long periods of loneliness caused by a troubled childhood). they feel called out and ashamed.
>>
>>127718771
Well then they aren't really listening. Many such cases :'[
>>
>>127718279
Yes.
WYWH > TDSOTM > Animals > Meddle > The Wall
>>
>>127719216
...and then TFC, no?
>>
>>127718279
Animals is better, but I prefer Meddle. Nothing ever topped the first time I heard Echoes.
>>
>>127719342
Meddle is fucking tops. and Meddle would not exist without Saucerful of Secrets and Animals wouldn't exist without Meddle. what a wonderful timeline
>>
>>127718279
>their greatest album
eve heard of DSOTM bro ?
>>
>>127719360
I love Meddle so much, but I'm willing to admit that Seamus kind of throws it off from being a perfect album. Animals is the better album, but unlike Meddle, I'm not always in the mood for it. Saucerful of Secrets is almost as good, but it just lacks something that Meddle has.
Honestly, if I was going to rank Floyd albums, DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall, AHM, Piper and even AMLOR (Learning to Fly got me into Floyd when I was 7, so I have a soft spot for it) would all be in different places depending on how I felt on the day, but the top three will always be Meddle > Animals > Saucerful

Not really. Pigs is one of their weakest long songs so that brings down the album a ton already. I like Sheep, but really Dogs carries the entire thing hard.

I still prefer DSOTM. WYWH is pretty sedate and meandering compared to Dark Side. Shine On tries too hard to force these big emotional moments, and Have a Cigar is just a weak retread of Money musically and pretty trite lyrically. The live versions from the 1975 tour are genuinely way better than how they came out in the studio.

>>127720175
Dogs is the worst song on the album

It's Dark Side. Sorry it's one of the best selling albums if it wasn't y'all wouldn't discount it as much.
>>127718645
Ya the Wall is very very good. I didn't get it till I got older but now I really appreciate the music and lyrics.
>>127720726
Welcome to the Machine is the worst track on there.
