As a genre, only specific pioneers are good. The rest are mediocre copycats at best and absolutely worthless, clueless posers at rest. The few good bands/artists are Silencer, Abyssic Hate, Trist, and Hypothermia. That's literally it. Would mention Shining too, but he doesn't fit squarely into DSBM.
DSBM is good when its done by guys who're just trying to explore the most fucked up emotions and imagery possible, which should be the most salient objective of Black Metal. When it's done by guys actually suicidal, it comes off impotent and congested; you can tell it's more about the message than the music with those guys, which puts them in the same subhuman category as RABM or NSBM.
