>thing actually borrowing techniques of cooler thing
>disdainful wojak
>thing presenting what people easily remember from cooler thing
>excited wojak
people get convinced too easily by themes and aesthetic.

I was listening to Shostakovich the other day and the wild way the violin jumps from one line to another really reminded me of death metal desu.

the modern form of classical is neoclassical

When people say classical they mean romantic era.

Metal does at times resemble modernism in terms of emphasis on moment-to-moment excitement and total melodic freedom. But people who think it has more than a tenuous connection to classical form are severely coping.

He's not wrong.
Tony Levin did a whole dissertation at Eastman on how metal and classical are more of the same tradition than jazz.

well, unless it's Chick Corea or something, then it's a complete blowout.
actually the more i think about it the more it's stupid. what jazz? what metal? if you take doom metal it's not going to work out.

Non-poppish Metal pounds most classical into the dirt, for regular listening. Holst should have wrote The Planets with a dozen Mars movements and one Jupiter at the end.

I'm interested, which work? I just have this Jazz Suites (1-2) recording and it's been a minute since I listened.

it's more like Bernard Herrmann

Classical is actually pleasing to the ear, and appeals to literally anyone. Metal only appeals to those born between 1965 and 1999. But yeah, both genres require a high amount of technical execution. Thats where the comparisons end.
