I like that Mike Patton drank wee from a shoe. Drinking wee is trad and based.

I've listened to their self titled 4 times through. I still have not figured out if I dig the music or not.
>>
I like Faith No More, and I think that Mr. Bungle sucks

Hylics

California is easier listening and arguably better
>>
>>127741223
I love both, and you suck

>>127741017
I think they're one of the best bands from the 90s. That perfect 3-streak of music albums it's what every rock should accomplish. Constanly evolving their sound, and not getting musically stuck (yeah their comeback album was underwhelming)
What do you think of Patton, Dunn, Spruance's side projects?
>>
>>127741017
For me a proper followup to California is one of the biggest "what if's" in contemporary music.
>>
>>127741017
how did mike patton go from being this ultra-sexy hunklet to being a bloated middle-aged guy with pippi braids trying to recapture the energy of his death metal roots?

*to be fair, the Easter Bunny re-up a couple of years ago did kick a lot of ass, but still. For a band that was previously so into pushing envelopes and doing their own thing it was disappointing to say the least.

Secret Chiefs 3 is brilliant. The fracturing into sub-sub-sub projects is a little annoying, but still, the music is great and challenging without disappearing up its own asshole.

Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant was great live, didn't really understand the point of the sheet music though, unless it was one of those ironic jokes.

Fantomas was fucking amazing live every time I saw them; I was disappointed they didn't do more.
>>
I hate Faith No More, I think California is severely overrated outside 2 or 3 songs, and that Secret Chiefs 3 brutally mogs any Patton project
>>
>>127743398
agreed on FNM
you're dead-balls wrong or just being a contrarian twatwaffle about California. there's no filler on that record, they're all bangers.
SC3 is brilliant
>>
None of them knew they were robots is the best bungle song imo

New Umlaut is an absolute banger, Bär is the man and massively underrated, he managed to progress the Bungle sound into something that's his own sound. Umlaut is more Bungle than the Bungle that's touring the easter bunny thrash bullshit, while not just being a copy.

Agreed, album also has Heifetz on it. Enjoying this record way more than the Bunny crap, also has a disco volante era track on it. Saw them live recently and they killed.

cali is just too safe for me for an album that has a lot of weird avant-quirks for accessing emotions and imagery that's normally found in pop.

>New Umlaut
Tried like 4 tracks. Shit sucks. Cant do this type stuff in 2025, come on
>>
I listened to their first three:
>Mr. Bungle
Audio shitposting, not music.
>Disco Volante
This one's not bad. I especially liked Desert Search for Techno Allah. The compositional approach reminded me of Psykovsky - Da Budet, although that album's a lot more enjoyable to listen to. I think it's a better comparison than Frank Zappa despite being a different genre.
>California
Disco Volante, boring edition. I don't understand why anybody thought this was a good idea. Why would a band defined by wacky gimmicks make a more accessible album? Production is worse too, and it wasn't great on the previous two. Everything's kind of muddy and the lyrics are hard to hear.

Too deep for you, eh?
>>
>>127741017
Pop music for people who think they're too edgy or underground for pop music.

yeah you're a pleb, stick to radiohead and death grips
