It's a lot cooler when you're a kid and your imagination runs wild because you don't fully understand the limitations at play. Once you're older and look at it critically you realize how unnecessarily bloated it is. I really don't think Rockstar had a tight design for everything in SA and used it more as a tech demo of sorts just to see what all they could get away with at the time.
