The recent announcement had me wanting to listen to them again. I know this album like the back of my hand, it smacks all of your Finnish "raw production" tremoloshit upside the head. Probably going to do a discography run later this week when I have time.

Also give recommendations for more black metal that has a lot of chugcaviar and solosouffles available.

I only like Death until Spiritual Healing. Some parts of Human.

After that it ceased to be a death metal band. And Chuck stopped the growls and started that high pitched type of vocals. Those albums after Human don't even sound death metal.

I think it's top metal, one of the greatest albums.
The rest of Death kinda bores me to be fair. I used to like Human turns out it's meh. I kinda like SBG but it's kinda meh too. The rest is trash, even Symbolic, even Leprosy, even TSoP.

I don't care about wether it's "true" death metal or some shit. I just care if it's good and you can suck my dick.

I blasted SBG a few nights ago and found it fun, but primitive in ways that were limiting. It's an album both distanced from thrash yet not very death metal. These days I like Severed Survival more.
Also a bit long. Both of the CD bonus tracks are better than some of the filler on the LP. IDK what mongoloid put that tracklist together.
>>127820600
I'm not all that interested in neo-thrash, but this guy gets it. A little less Kantor and Lewandowski-esque DUDE PAINT artwork, more supreme realizations of airbrushes and sketchbook doodles.
>>127820768
>I don't see why everyone goes full sòyface for them.
(Late) Death is heavy/prog metal with some death metal elements and presentation, so it's a very strong gateway band and tourist magnet. TSOP and Symbolic were my introductory "extreme" metal albums, so I understand the love.
>>127820793
>no metal band has had so many iconic riffs sandwiched in its songs.
>some death songs have three or more riffs that would all be their own songs with other bands.
Yes but that also makes a lot of Death songwriting flawed from a DM perspective. It's practically a longer version of verse/chorus structure.
>>127820855
>Death of Detroit
>punk
Good band, but this meme is so gay. Not every garage rock band was an influence on punk. IIRC they released one single and vanished for decades before their archival album was released. It's "Blue Cheer invented metal" tier revisionism.

The more DM songs on Illud sound like Heretic leftovers, and the industrial dance rock songs are pop metal fodder, filler, fun but too goofy for a MA album, or just plain bad. Those should have been an EP released as a side project. Not enough "moments of brilliance" nor complete and good songs to excuse the rest. This isn't GDOW we're talking about, where that actually has a lot going for it.
Kingdoms may be one of the worst apology records by a band. It tries hard to be tough and death metal but it leaves the ears as quickly as it visits them. The mildest of Immolation albums would smoke it. Everyone will forget it, if they haven't already. Unfortunately Trey may be too wrecked to make another good album.

Doesn't exist, but people associate reverb drench "cavernous" production these days with "ATMO DM"

It just sounds things sound very bad, muddy. Especially bands that play in dropped tunings with this type of production practically unlistenable as you cannot even hear any riffs

NTA but normally I've seen atmodeath to be used to mean "caverncore", with bands like Abyssal. I can kinda see it given the riffs usually just blend together into an atmosphere, but it's still a weird term.

Anything called Cthe'ilist that is retarded though.
>>
>>127822160
it's just a third party uploader tagging it that, stop overthinking it
>>
>>127822214
Well it's clearly shifting the emphasis away from having clear riffage to "texture" so it does come across as more atmospheric, but I don't really think it needs its own tag as it usually is still riff focused and just uses production to make it atmospheric.
I don't really care for genre autism either way mind, I'm just saying that's the context in which I've seen the term used, and I can see why even if it's still silly to me.

>>127822976
>But I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in thinking Morbid Angel's drummer is mid
You can consider him mid, thats fine, but I consider sloppy to be an objective measure of him being able to keep time and not miss or end up with notes out of line. Flo or the GBK vocalist who did the drums for a while are examples of sloppy. Pete plays Brainstorm or Pain Divine without issue or any mistakes.
Sloppy means mistakes, to my memory Pete on studio albums (and what live footage I've seen) has not made an error. Usually they play Altars tracks FASTER live and he's been perfectly fine.

>Like I said, not everyone can be blessed with an internal metronome
Yeah okay mr expert, so you do think everyone else is wrong.
>>
>>127822983
I'm no expert man, I only listened to Survival of the Sickest as a "oh hey they're still going are they still good?" curiosity and it wasn't as good as Nightmares but it was also perfectly fine especially for modern DM standards.

Sloppy and mid are not mutually exclusive. And no, sloppy doesn't necessarily = mistakes per se. In this case, sloppy means not being totally precise.

>>127822972
>Don't be an AngryMetalGuy fanboy
I don't know Gigan nor much dissodeath, but I can agree with this. AMG isn't even angry or very critical.

>Sloppy and mid are not mutually exclusive
That's what I said, thanks for telling me again, real helpful.
>sloppy means not being totally precise
Which means mistakes. A drummer's main goal is to be precise.
If you believe Pete is sloppy and imprecise, to such a degree you consider him sloppy, you must have multiple examples of him playing poorly on studio albums to share.
Someone like Flo is easy as you can tell he can't keep the pace on None So Vile for some of the faster blasts, Pete has no examples that I've encountered despite listening to his 3 most popular albums repeatedly, including the debut where he was the least experienced (as he was remarkably tight on Formulas and Gateways but you will no doubt make up a disagreement).

It's not what you said, but ok.

>Which means mistakes
We're getting into semantics here, which kinda boring (like you). To me, a mistake is something that's able to be singled out and identified like a wrong note or a blatantly incorrect shift in time signature, whereas sloppiness is something more general - I suppose I could consider his drumming to be mostly a big mistake, but that would be a bit silly.

You really need to calm down, bro. This isn't serious stuff.
