What is your opinion on Brazilian music?
>>
Brazil is unironically a serious contender in the top3 countries for music
only the USA rivals it in diversity of great music genres and skill of their musicians
you can go in any major city in Brazil, and you'll find a thriving music scene
even when they borrowed from foreign music, they managed to merge it with their own in a unique and interesting way
>>

i always liked airto moreira's percussion on miles davis' fusion albums. also i often have this riff by the boogarins stuck in my head for some reason its very catchy

It's true that musicians just change things so that it doesn't look like the original.

Hermeto Pascoal is great, Tom Jobim is great, Krysiun is pretty solid, I like Angra and specially deep blue and Carolina IV, Chaos a.d by sepultura is a solid record.

Brazilian "folk" has some pleasant tunes if you look in the right corners. Tim Maia is great...

Things will get better than they currently are.

Brazilians are almost the most delusional people on the planet
I say almost only because Indians exist.
>>
>>127826743

UNITEDSTATIANS ARE AMONGST THE TOP FIVE MOST DELUSIONAL PEOPLES; BRAZILIANS DO NOT FIGURE EVEN WITHIN THE TOP TWENTY.
>>
>>127824931
Some of the most boring, or shit-tier, music anywhere, "diversity" you say that like the diverse crap is any good. I could create a music genre composed of farts as vocals, and smashing plates as the instrumentation, or one made out of scratching my balls + tv static, does this "diversity" makes it good ? : no.
>>127826117
True, there's a reason their crap remains there, bland/unoriginal, in fact, it seems the biggest genre there is pop-country + "funk".

Pre-1990 = god tier (Gil, Veloso, Regina, Baden Powel, Nunez, Olodum,... there's 100s, if not 1000's of top-tier musicians and composers).
Post-1990 is absolute hogwash. A complete waste of time. I have no idea what caused the destruction of Brazilian music around that time.
>>
>>127827079
>>127826117
I never defended br funk, and don't like it at all
still, plenty of brilliant music has been made there of all sorts:
>samba
>bossa-nova
>MPB
>choro
>forró
>baião
>axé
>frevo
>maracatu
>manguebeat
>carimbó
aside from their own brands of jazz, soul, pop, folk, rock, rap, avant-garde; and movements like tropicália, clube da esquina, malditos, vanguarda paulista, etc
you can make up strawmen as much as you like, but you're tilting at windmills at this point, and should probably listen to more music before speaking up shit online
you're just coming across as ignorant

a lot of the music that Brazil has excelled in wasn't actually born in it, but has blended well enough with brazilian genres to develop a personality of its own

not quite
they were heavily influenced by the beatles and paid homage to them more than once, but their music also blended plenty of other genres
they had influences of brazilian folk music, samba, eastern european music (mainly because of the contribuitions of Wagner Tiso), psychedelic rock, afrobrazilian rythyms, etc
I'd say Os Mutantes is much more similar to The Beatles, at least to their psych pop era
>>
