>b-but it was groundbreaking at the time!!>you have to think of the conteeexxt!!!that just means it sucks
>>127833908>groundbreaking album was so awesome then it's still awesome now
>>127833908No little man, it just means you'r'e too kl00less to understand it.
>>127833908>b-but they influenced so many!
>>127833908Name three (3) albums/bands that people say this about.
>>127834078why yes: beatles, the velvet underground, zappawell that was pretty easy wasn't it?
>>127834078trout mask replica
>>127834078>Brothers In Arms>I never loved a man the way I love you>Any swans album
>>127834078pretty much any /mu/core album
If it was groundbreaking at the time but isn't anymore, it was a fad lol.
Are you sitting around listening to acousmatic tape loops or are you just talking about some crap rock band?
>>127833908>seinfeld isn't funny the thread>>127834305Beatles and VU are still great>>127834068I hope that you can still recognize being influential is a great thing in art
>>127838220>defends seinfeldit's over.for the record, i've seen one person unironically say "season 5 is where it really starts to get good, just be patient"
>>127834007let them know!
>>127838283every season of Seinfeld is good
>>127838323not even going to argue, i'm happy for you anon.
>>127833908A piece of art shouldn't be studied in a vacuum. Yours is a childish opinions. Normies do it all the time with classic cinema set them down for something amazing from the 50s and they can't stand it.>it's slow>it's boring>it's not in colorThat's you.
>>127834078Metallica Pink Floyd Nirvanaall boring piss that's worse than most of the artists that came after them
It's true that inflooence doesn't change the quality of the music itself. But luckily most inflooential albums like TVU&N and TMR are awesome on their own without context.
>>127833908trvth nvke
>>127841490The normies are stupid in this case because they're too brainrotted to enjoy slower and less visually stimulating movies but not because they don't appreciate the influence. Do you actually watch a film noir and think, "I'm enjoying this because it influenced Scorcese and Lynch" or do you just enjoy it on it's own merit? You can appreciate something's influence but I don't see how that makes the work more enjoyable while you're experiencing it.
>>127841849>do you just enjoy it on it's own meritYes! Absolutely. Doing so requires understanding the context around the creation of the art. The artists, the studios, the trends, the influences. It's immensely satisfying to see the evolution of cinema and understand it while doing so. The only difference is that level of appreciation requires study. Same with music. Same with all art.
>>127841943i'm OP, and you're arguing with the ghosts in your head.one time i watched the blue angel, from 1930, best shit ever, from start to finish.later i watched the original blade runner, on someone(like you)'s recommendation because muh cyberpunk, underwhelming, so not deep that i could actually predict what was going to be said word for word, and sex scene so bad it was actually more confusing than anything else.if it's not good in a vacuum, it's not good. if it's influential, fine, i'll say it is, but that doesn't stop it from being dogshit.
>>127844070meant to reply to >>127841490
>>127834345>Any Swans album Filth & Cop are just as brutal today as they were in the '80s and the Holy Trilogy from the 2010s is the peak of post-metal. For Swans EP and the post-Children of God Jarboe albums (excluding Soundtracks for the Blind,) I agree with you.
>>127838323Be honest. Seinfeld doesn't get Seinfeld funny until Jason Alexander realizes George isn't supposed to be played like Woody Allen being nervous but like Larry David yelling at a rude waiter.
>>127833908and then you have The Velvet Underground being groundbreaking and good at the same time
>DAS IST DAS ENDE>DAS IST DAS ENDE>DAS IST DAS ENDE DAS ENDE DAS ENDE
>>127834078Just read through the Van Halen thread >>127838288
>>127833908It means it didn’t age well
>>127844186That's season 3 then...? The first two seasons are pretty short so that's a large proportion of the series
