After over 10+ years of enjoying Frank Zappa, I have just now realized that his music is mostly dog shit.

>I have just now realized that his music is mostly dog shit
this is true but he made so much music that he still has more great albums than most artists.
>>
I once saw a guy on the street with that same facial hair
I got scared for a second

I still have a soft spot for his more instrumental works like Uncle Meat and Hot Rats as it's closer to the genuinely great artists that he was influenced by (Varese, Stravinsky, Dolphy...) but the vocals, lyrics, and humor have only got increasingly more annoying with age.

yeah he's a downright tragic figure imo because he was a legitimate compositional genius but what he really wanted was to be weird al. except less funny.
>>

that's why he shifted his focus to guitar compilations after the '84 tour. that was what he became really great at and after he worked with Vai he was even greater. Best soloist ever and nearly everything else is mediocre

Even Frank knew it, or at least knew what his fans wanted. "Shut up 'n' play yer guitar" is accurate.

He’s got some certifiable bangers though
I’ll agree he is hit and miss though

The Mothers: Over-Nite Sensation [DiscReet, 1973]
Oh, I get it--the soft-core porn is there to contextualize the serious stuff.
Oh, I get it--the automatic solos are there to undercut the serious stuff.
Oh, I get it--the marimbas are there to mock-trivialize the serious stuff.
But where's the serious stuff? C

>this album is not serious music for serious music listeners such as myself. also im a massive faggot. C

He seemed afraid to truly bare his soul so he hid behind silly nonsense lyrics

This is most likely it. He didn't have Beefheart's courage and shamelessness.
>>
>>127837351
his soul was the music and writing compositions that only frank could ever write
>>

One good person with credibility compliments his music and it's over with for me. you're anonymous... who fucking cares what you think.

i always sort of felt like that except it seemed like it was dog shit on purpose and so it made it a little more complicated, however, he was so prolific that there is thankfully a lot of good music in there, and he enjoyed making dog shit music AND serious compelling music and i respect that. dude was based

maybe my favorite zappa song and that's saying something because it's digital synthesis from later in his years rather than live instrumentation

It's tries to justify it's existence by being molded into a technically well made shit-sandcastle..... at the end of the day it's still gross ugly dogshit
>>
His love for doo-wop has always perplexed me.

>"they're just words, man"
What a disingenuous take
