No one moderated Ed, III flopped bigly and wounded Ed. He never recovered. The Mike Post interview last year revealed new info: Al was drinking again by 1998, no one but Ed played on III, Gary was told what to sing. Post was afraid to interject and let Ed have carte blanche. Gary was no alpha like Dave or Sam. 5150 studios gave Ed full reign of the band.Sadly, no one is controlling the band's legacy even now. When a band stops touring and doesn't reissue the catalog, the music just gets forgotten. Bad management.

I've had this conversation three times now with zoomers. They'll have Def Leppard shirt or mention they like Motley Crue and I'll say that my favorite band from that style or era is Van Halen and they either don't really know them or don't like them. I haven't really gotten into any hair metal adjacent stuff aside from Van Halen. Motley Crue in particular sounds like Van Halen without any substance to me. Anyways, it doesn't mean anything.
