What instrument would you recommend for learning music fundamentals like rhythm, slurs, sight reading, and such?
>>127897644>slursTry /pol/ you learn slurs real quick
>>127897644The general rule is to learn on the instrument you want to play. However, that is not ideal for learning when the instrument in question is kind of a cumbersome cunt like a guitar. Any cock sucker can learn guitar chords and it will take them far. Actually playing full single note scales quickly, cleanly, and fluidly is actually a real bitch to do on a guitar and that's basic tier music concepts.Honestly, piano is probably the easiest to learn music fundamentals on. It also gets you into the habit of having your left hand and right hand act completely independently of each other and that is a pretty massive hurdle when you are just starting to get into music. If you want the most basic bitch of basic bitch instruments that still has value for learning music fundamentals? Recorder. I do NOT recommend the soprano recorder (cheap plastic bitches that most elementary students learn on) but instead recommend the tenor recorder. Tenor has the exact same note layout and is in the exact same key but it is in a lower octave so it doesn't sound like a shrill banshee when playing.
>>127897644Try the steel pans or the piano. Both the most accessible instruments imo>>127897728Guitar is a bitch because of its layout.
>>127897838Guitar is a bitch for a lot of reasons>Cramped strings making single string pressing difficult>Uncomfortable playing surface >Awkward playing position>Terrible layout for note progressionIt's honestly up there for one of the worst designs from the viewpoint of someone who knows music theory. This is a pretty common flaw for most stringed instruments (guitar, mandolin, banjo, etc) yet there are some that do actually address these issues but aren't popular picks (dulcimer). Then you have some instruments that are frankly genius in there design but aren't popular for shit like the accordion.
Piano. Very low level of entry, very easy to learn a few chords and play some songs you like
>>127897644Piano
>>127897728tin whistle > recorder
>>127897644Guitar is fine. It's modern and accessible. There's a satisfaction that comes from playing guitar that piano does not have. It also gives you a huge range of styles of music to play.
>>127897644Whatever instrument you want to play. If you don't truly have the desire to play the instrument in question, you won't. There is really no other answer in my opinion.
>>127897644PIano is quite easy, but I would see if there are certain songs that you would like to play eventually. It will give you more motivation to reach those goals than just playing arbitrary songs with no goal in mind.
>>127898751What you want to play and what you are good at playing are frequently not the same thing. It's often better to learn an instrument you resonate with more than one you want to play because "X played *instrument* and I want to be like X". You might struggle a lot with that instrument, make very little progress, and abandon music as a result, whereas you might take to a different instrument like a duck to water and really get into music as a result.
>>127898406>Cramped strings making single string pressing difficult >Uncomfortable playing surface >Awkward playing position Disagree. The guitar is probably the most comfortable instrument to play. You can do some crazy shit with it.>Terrible layout for note progressionIt's this that filters the shit out of me, even if it is my main instrument. All this cool stuff I could be doing but first you HAVE to know every note on the neck. The fourths trick is the only semi-hack that has helped me with knowing the neck.
>>127899143>All this cool stuff I could be doing but first you HAVE to know every note on the neckJust use your ears bro. Half the time I don't know what notes I'm playing, but if I'm listening to the rhythm part I can target certain notes that sound cool. Then you go back and analyze it and sometimes it's pretty cool and interesting from a theory standpoint, other times it's just hitting the #7 on something that turned out to be an instance of harmonic minor.
>>127899183>Just use your ears broDoesn't really work when you're improvising on the spot.
>>127897644Guitar and piano. Guitar for riffs, Piano for chords.
>>127899143>Guitar is comfortable to playHard disagree. How many other instruments damn near require callouses and make you fucking bleed while learning them? Guitars and other neck and string instruments are one of the most uncomfortable instruments to learn. Once you do have a foundation and are comfortable with them? Yeah, you can noodle around absent mindedly while relaxing more so than a lot of other instrument groups that tend to require more focus just to generate sound.Pretty much the only piss easy string on neck instruments I can think of that are "comfy" to play are stuff like the dulcimer or harpejjio.
