Are music lessons even necessary? All your favourite had no formal training whatsoever
>>127897650>All your favourite had no formal training whatsoeverfalse
>>127897650depends. if you want to play rock or pop music, then you don't really need to know how to sight-read or the ayylmaoean modes by name, but if you're a retard if you don't know basic theory shit like your chords, the notes of the fretboard, scale knowledge, or how to stay in key.
Your favorites didn't have gaming or porn to distract them.
>>127897650If you're playing some low-skill genre of music like rock, then no, you don't need lessons. Try being a classical musician without formal training though. Impossible.
>>127897650that's certainly false for Van Halen and that's false for Alexi Laiho. and when Yngwie may not have taken formal lessons then he came from the family of musicians, he was immersed in classical music from the get goRandy Rhoads took lessons on tour in whatever town they were currently in
>>127897697why would anyone do that
I learned chords and scales (like pentatonic minor). What else is there?
Wes Montgomery, the greatest jazz guitarist of all time, started late, practiced ony in the evening while havign a regualr job(!) and a family with 7 kids. And then he played at clubs at night. Thats the kinda man you have to be to become a elgend, you fuckign bedroom warriors lol
Some of the greatest jazz musicians were only good because they had a great ear. Once you have a repertoire of chords and voicings and some melodies you can get far even in elitist jazz circles.Especially because jazz is mostly standards everyone knows and the only thing thats hard is improvising. You can wing ALL OF THAT
>>127897877How do you get a good ear?
>>127897890Recognizing intervals by hearing them over and over. 2 notes, Then 3, then 4. But most musicians learn by being around better musicians. The most common story you always hear about good musicians is that they were always surrounded by better ones who showed them some tricks.
>>127897877all the jazz goat had formal training very early in their lives and started gigging and soon as they could sneak them into the club
>>127897650EVH took piano lessons and also enrolled in music theory classes when he was college age. Randy Rhoads studied music, his mother was a professional music teacher and he gave lessons. It seems romantic to think you can know nothing about music and make great music, but that's usually not the case.
>>127897938Most rock musicians never had lessons, cant even read music, you nonce. And EVH isnt exactly a good example for elaborate or even good music, lol
>>127897938Alexi Laiho learned violin and was studying at the music college until COB broke bigA myth that some angsty kid forms a successful extreme metal band in his bedroom is just that, a myth
>>127897957>Durrrrr most successful guitar player of all time isn't a good example of a musician, while I'm making shitty software music in my smegma room. Fuck off retard. >>127898006Exactly. I never studied music or attended school for music but I wish I had. It's just a way to get better at something and give yourself a better musical vocabulary.
>>127897957sight reading sheet music is not good for guitar anyway, doesn't mean they don't learn other stuff
>>127897650all the best vocalists had a teacher, all of them
