They aren't talked about because they're very 'subculture-y', not by their own design of course, but because they were seen as too weird and campy when they came up and only the dorks were open to adopt them. Carl McCoy is a hell of a frontman and the whole cowboy thing is very cool

I sometimes help set up galleries at a small-town art center in an old school from 100 years ago and we'll play their music while hanging up portraits of landscapes late at night. Their music is different from any other goth band I've heard, it's more like prog rock.
