Metal sperg essay incoming.I think, even when they listen to some extreme metal bands, a lot of them are rockers at heart, either heavy metallers at best or pop rockers at worst. They listen to metal and metal-adjacent music because they want something more aggressive than mainstream rock but still relatively comfortable, also because classic rock is no longer the center of gravity for amplified guitar music. I still like/love some rock, but extreme metal has the most of what I want in music. So I'll gladly blast a number of rock or heavy metal bands with a rocker, but our priorities and tastes in metal will diverge at some point and we'll talk past one another.TL;DR: He and I are two circles of a Venn diagram which overlap less than some might think, but that's okay. Just please don't rec me Jinjer when you see me wearing an illegible death metal shirt.
