Once you've learned to distinguish them from the Gray Templed Prelates, the Stolen Pesto Pinenuts, the Stoned Tempo Pirates, Pearl Jam, Wishbone Ash, and Temple of the Dog, you may decide that they're a halfway decent hard rock act. Unfortunately, after they're done setting you up with their best power chords you realize the type song is "Sex Type Thing" and it's attached to a rape threat. The band claims this is intended ironically, sort of like "Naked Sunday"'s sarcastic handshake with authority. But ironic critique loses its will to power when the will to power still powers your power chords. And if that's the excuse critics as well as MTV viewers have reason to suspect, then the whole band should catch AIDS and die. B-

Didn't take long for grunge to become totally commercialized mall music for jailbait Beckys.

I want to love the songs but I really fucking hate Scott's singing on this album. I don't know if the Eddie Vedder jokes got to him or what but he sounds fucking awful and ruins so many of them. He gets better on No. 4 at least but then everything starts getting worse after that.

Hmm

I recall when I 1st heard Big Bang Baby on KROQ, I was intrigued, young and dumb, but also was turned off by the warmth of the vocal with layering and excessive air (likened to the airiness of Revolver sound), at the time the vocal sounded isolated more vulnerable compared to previous works. The approach lend itself to accentuate Scott's nasal distress in a more isolated attempt which is among the album's charms, the record sounds vintage and out of place with its time, surely. Sifting thru the early takes, there was a concentrated attempt for special treatment to flesh out Scott's vocals, punch them up, rawness intact, his harmonizing the lyric had greatly improved to a peak here, Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart, is a great example of this, that and Art School Girlfriend. The vocalization finalized sounds like a rediscovery of past treasures trove, the RNA of STP, of course, imo this is both Scott and the band's peak.

Scott's vox for ballads "And So I Know" and "Adhesive" are amongst his prettier lounge moments. You get the feel for the direction that is 12 Bar Blues

I can totally see a complaint with the vocal if you're under the impression that Core and Purple are STP's kumbaya. Yet with Tiny Music, Scott's range and rawness is on full display, it's a trip, drop of the hat how versatile and controlling his vocal can be while mood switching. The instrumental takes are out there to listen, sure, but it's impossible to imagine Scott not exploding over them. The impression made here is the stuff of legend

All this without mentioning how tight af this band was during this recording.

nirvana is trash. i could record myself taking a watery shit and it would still be better than nirvana's "best" album. no this isn't bait. nirvana legitimately sucks. let's put it like this: foo fighters SUCK ASS. but their worst album is still better than nirvana's "best".

Your opinion is meaningless because you obviously have a hate boner for nirvana
