Why are so many major pop songwriters/producers former heavy metal musicians? Shellback was a black metal one man project cassette-only guy before his professional production career.
Because many are Uber talented guys but there's no money to be made producing for their original niches
>>127950453>major pop songwriters/producers former heavy metal musiciansI assume it's because they are competent, passionate musicians in that they have actually studied music or have an outstanding ear for music are perhaps very business driven, but fail to attain success in their genre of choice, so they go pop because they at least can work with what they love while making money, music.
>>127950453Pop music pays the bills.
>>127950550>>127950505>>127950501Breaking into pop music is extremely difficult. Why do mostly metal musicians manage to do so?
>>127950453They noticed it makes more money playing simple shit
>>127951178It isn’t, 100% of /mu/ doesn’t know Gracie Abrams but she sells arenas.
>>127951689yes but her family
>>127950453>so manyname 5
>>127950453When you are a guy growing up and playing music, joining a metal band was the cool thing to do so people went and did that. Just playing regular rock music was seen as lame. Eventually you grow up and realize metal is cringe so you try other things and find out that you can make pretty good pop music.>>127950550Most of these guys actually like pop music, otherwise they'd still be doing metal stuff on the side for fun.
>>127952886Shellback and Max were both in metal bandsZedd was in a metal bandSkrillex was in a post-hardcore band
playing powerchords and tremolo picking scales over and over again gets boring so they move onto making real music
>>127952922so you got 3...
>>127952965there's not that many high-level producers to begin with.
>>127952942>implying popslop isn't more boring and braindead
>>127953005>so many
>>127953029From a production standpoint, pop music is much more intricate and demanding than metal. The final product is simpler musically but much more laborious in sound design and mixing.
>>127953032yes, so many of the few that there arekeep up ESLfag
>>127953043there are dozens of astronomically successful pop producers. you just don't know many.
>>127953054name them
>>127950453It's called selling out.

>>127953039I respect pop producers/songwriters way more than the average producer for this. I don't even listen to or enjoy pop on most days
>>127952942>playing powerchords and tremolo picking scales over and over again gets boring so they move onto recording I - V - vi - IV over and over again
>>127953139only 5 of those are still remotely relevantwell at least you "named 5" kek
>>127952886Thomas G:Son is another Swede who started as a metal artist (although he's not a big deal in the US, he has written/produced multiple megahits in Europe). Not metal, but Jack Antonoff started in a punk band.
>>127953229>I - V - vi - IVnot even that common anymore. get new memes.
>>127952886Andrew Watt
>>127953032there's "so many" as a proportion of how many producers there actually are. 50% is pretty high if you don't include hip-hop producers.
>>127953245shellback literally only produces for swift now. he's not relevant beyond that.
>>127953285>of how many producers there actually are.there are hundreds. just look at the credits on any recent pop album if you want a list.
>>127953245more than you could name apparently.
>>127953315I'm talking about high level ones, dipshit. Also you're mistaking producers with songwriters. There's hundreds of writers but only so many producers.
>>127953340i'm not mistaking producers with songwriters. look up the production credits on the most successful pop qlbums of the last few years. those are high level, they are producing for the highest level artists out there. if you get to define the terms of "high level ones" to literally 3 people what the fuck am i even supposed to respond with? dumb nigger.
>>127953369Top albums of 2024>Tortured poets dept - Jack Antonoff>Hit me hard and soft - Finneas>Ariana grande's newest album - Max martin>Brat - AG Cook/whoever her fiance is>Sabrina Carpenter - Jack Antoff (again)the top albums are literally the same guys you already hear of. It's only hip-hop albums where you have dozens of producers for a single song, but the thread is about metal guys turned producers and they wouldn't fall into that.
>lets take an obscure association and try to make it a thingGo away, Taylor, you will never be a rock star. Now go 'pop!'
>>127954640Does she want to be seen as a rockstar? She’s allegedly a huge Def Leppard fan but aside from that I don’t know.
>>127954258>Sabrina Carpenter - Jack Antoffonly 4 songs were produced by antonoff. you couldn't even bother to actually look at the production credits.
