there's no such thing as "good voice"
every voice timbre can sound perfect within a specific style and sound stupid in almost all other styles.

Matching the sound of the band to the voice + good technique > everything
>>

this

energy (appropriately used) is more important than any vocal hardware or technique

Here's a prime example of someone who has studied music, is a vocal coach, knows music theory through and though, but whose superb technique cannot help them because their voice is just unremarkable.

So is a "good voice" purely innate?
Is this the music equivalent of those "don't bother working out if you have narrow clavicles bro" demoralization threads?
>>
>>127951655
nothing to do with voice

she's singing a generic pop song in a generic pop voice, thats why it's unremarkable.

this is unseasoned chicken of vocals and is easily fixable with a bit of creativity and passion

>easily fixable with a bit of creativity and passion
It's not. It's just not in her voice. You can't teach SOVL. You're either born with it or you're not.

Give us an example of a bad voice becoming a good one.

>You can't teach SOVL. You're either born with it or you're not
It's attitude and you can absolutely develop it through confidence + expanding taste.

the opinion of people with good ears > the opinion of people with bad ears

agreed, 99% of shoegaze is shit because of this
>distorted guitar over whispery voice with generic percussion
discarded
people who are afraid to project their voice often make cowardly music for betas

This is about as awful an example of 'good technique' as you could've found. She has a mediocre sense of pitch, mediocre breath control, and basically zero emotion in her delivery. She sounds like a former high school theater kid: taught to project and over-enunciate but unable to sing in any way that actually moves you. Find me someone with perfect technique but soulless delivery.

Idina Menzel. Decent technique, but very nasal delivery. She grates my ears.

Yeah, he has technical skill but his music is soulless almost by definition. Actually, this brings to mind Michael Buble as well. To me that's the definition of soulless/ball-less but "good" singing. I hate the holidays because of that hack.

>>127952745
That was dreadful to listen to, I think I understand a 'bad voice' now. I need to wash my ears with the polar opposite of this.

Compare & Contract.
Freddie Mercury had poor technique, but an outstanding voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbvyNnw8Qjg

Same with Axel Rose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz6__sLHPNA

Contrast**
>>
>subjective opinions about voices and techniques are objective! Generalizations about those things are always true!
jesus why do you waste your time with this shit. If you're trying to make music, set your priorities and work on them. there is no recipe.

>>127951521
huh I thought with all the Tay cope/seethe going on today that one of those threads would be the stupidest thing on /mu/ but congratulations, you win the prize.
>>
>>127952910
Now that your faggot ass entered the thread and you couldn't contain your Tayslop in /wpop/, Taylor Swift is a prime example of the most bland voice ever. Completely uninteresting as a singer.
