Spiderland has higher peaks.
The For Carnation is more consistent.

Glad to see a TFC thread on here. After becoming obsessed with Slint I was so thrilled to discover TFC and the self titled is a fantastic record.
While Spiderland has higher peaks, I will say that Moonbeams rivals the very best on Spiderland.

Tales is my favourite track:

Also great, I mean there's not a bad song on the album. It's honestly a fantastic album.
I also really love Salo from their Marshmallows EP

I've always found The For Carnation too sedate to compare broadly to Slint. And I'd pick Fight Songs over the self-titled, though this thread made me re-listen to the latter, so thanks for that.

Let me rec Crescent's By the Roads and the Fields for people who like TFC. It was an anon here bringing it up for a while, and it's a terrific album. Sadly their next wasn't nearly as interesting when I gave it a listen.

Also, the most memorable Pajo song for me is Crowd of One. I may just be a sucker for this kind of opaque sampling, however.

Nosferatu Man and For Dinner aren't that good in my opinion. Also to me it's kinda all over the place, just like Tweez. Something that TFC nailed was creating a cohesive atmosphere all the way through.

i fucking adore for dinner personally, but i understand that some might believe that it doesn't fit in the album (it does, especially in pushing how the structures of the songs evolve in the album, but whatever, that's for another post another day)
but nosferatu man? how can you like breadcrumb trail and good morning captain and not nosferatu man? the things that make those songs so great is what makes nosferatu man so great. maybe just give it another chance.
also im the #1 tweez defender in the world. don't get me started.

Breadcrumb Trail and Good Morning, Captain are kind of peak though.

I've been listening to my CD copy of the album years now. I only had to play TFC a couple times to figure out which one I prefer. Unlike the other songs you mentioned, Nosferatu Man never reaches a satisfying conclusion, which is sad since the main riff is amazing. Tweez is a good album, Kent is one of my favourite songs by Slint, but nowhere near to anything they released later.

Yeah they are. Washer is my favourite track from Spiderland anyway.

nosferatu man has an awesome conclusion imho

based for dinner enjoyer. I think it was the 33⅓ book where I read that For Dinner is the track with the most peaks and valleys as far as dynamics goes, it's just a much, much more subdued level and it completely changed how I viewed the song.

The other tracks have these explosive crescendos and For Dinner has constant use of dynamics but again it's so gentle. Really, really great mood. I also believe it's the last track they made for the album, so it was where they were at creatively at the time of the actual recording, whereas all the other tracks were a year or so old at that point. There's some universe out there where we got a slowcore third LP from Slint.
