>>127952101You're right I thinkI pretended to like them for yearsThey really are just not great

Thanks for reminding me I have to do laundry. God I hate having a job
>>127952113I want to do a J Mascis guitar solo
>>127952089Sonic Youth are the definitive "name a band with 200 songs where only 10 of them are any good"
>>127952089im still wondering who's the dude with the double chin. i didn't think any of sonic youth were chubby.
>>127952089The Diamond Sea is very cool. Also Ranaldo songs in this album are his best.
>>127952101They are famous, not popular
>>127952833It's a picture of two fans
Their best
>>127952089Washing Machine [DGC, 1995]With nothing to prove except that they can do it forever without going gold, they do it again. Recalling their roots, they stretch the title cut past its songful limits and build the finale into a 20-minute improvisation not altogether unreminiscent of the Grateful Dead. But at the same time they stick to the theoretically radio-ready songwriting that is now an aesthetic commitment, even trying their hand at a folk tune and a Shangri-Las tribute. As it happens, the latter owes the Fleetwoods. But needless to say, both ultimately sound like Sonic Youth, an institution whose guitars are often emulated and never replicated. As does everything else on a record that will startle no one and sound fresh in 2002. A-
>>127953407if you count the 90s albums then sure
>>127952089They were goated during the 80s. Then fell off and never recovered. That album and Dirty are fine, but are still overshadowed by records like Sister or Daydream Nation.
>>127954299but the jim'o'rourke albums were pretty great as well
>>127952089I was making my way through their discography a few months back- I haven’t listened to their 2000s albums yet, but this was definitely my favorite of theirs through the 90s at least. They’re pretty overrated on the whole though, this is their only borderline great one.
>>127954449No they weren't, and I happen to love the guy.
>>127954299agree on everything except i never liked Dirty, Goo tho has its momentsbtw weird to see so many /mu/tants not appreciating SY
>>127955026I meant Goo lmao, Dirty has some decent tunes but it's way too bloated and never liked its overall sound.
No one wants to listen for 5 fags and their grandma make the most atrocious "music" possible
>>127952089Christgau overrate it's 90s and 00s output
>>127952089Havent heard everything but the stuff I have is good. Started digging into them at an apt time in my life so they just made sense emotively. They can definitely go to more droney sounding shit, which is hit or miss. But id say half of their albums each are good, except Evol which is near perfect
>>127955026> weird to see so many /mu/tants not appreciating SYnew mu is a bunch of dumb retards that don’t even know what they are talking about
>youth
>>127955562Fuck "SY" you fucking faggot, you've probably never even seen Cameron Jamie's "Massage The History" but you'd love it because you're a fucking faggot retard who worships adolescent hacketry and infantile angst against SOCIETY because you can't handle turning your gaze inward.
it's a 7/10
